You know what'd be a really cool thing? If Disney, Ghibli, and Pixar collaborated on a new Fantasia for this generation of children. It'd have a lot of potential.
Well, I don't think so… Ghibli had problems with Disney in the past :/ (that's the reason why Princess Mononoke is "too violent" for children, you know?)
Casandra Terror Well, also reminding you that Princess Mononoke was not for children. It would be awesome, but cultural differences would get in the way; we put at animation on the bottom of films in our society and the japanese go all out with animation in their society; animation for kids, teens, adults....gotta love the japanese.
Spild I agree that Mononoke was definitely not geared towards young children. I wish cultural differences would not get in the way, because I think animation is one of the top tiers in film. It is of note however, that as I grow older, the only animated shows that seem to pique my interest anymore would be the more absurd shows like regular time, gravity falls, adventure time, and mostly anime. It definitely seems like more time is taken into eastern animation when compared to their American or western counterparts. Still, I think with the right people at the helm a collaboration would be great.
One of my most ethereal and poignant memories from when I was a child is the day I watched this film. I was 13 and I travelled to the cinema in my city alone and bought my ticket. The film was playing in screen 10 at the Odeon on London road in Liverpool. A modest sized screen deep in the depth of the cinema. Quite far away from any other screen. I slowly realised that I was going to be the only person in that entire screening and I proceeded to watch the film alone in this beautiful cocoon. It was an utterly magical and an experience I won't ever forget
My sophomore year of high school I played Horn on this for my wind ensemble we played this video behind it at the concert, keeping that it time was soooooooo difficult
since I am only child, I used to say when I was a kid that I was the little whale and my parents were mother and father whale. Watching this now that I'm 22 brings so beautiful memories that my eyes filled with tears. Thank you, Disney, for such a flawless masterpiece.
I watched Fantasia live in concert at the Royal Albert Hall last night played by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and they had Pines of Rome as the finale. I have to say there are few experiences that can make the soul truely sore than witnessing this piece on the big screen with a full live orchestra. Absolutely spectacular, its one thing listening to this music recorded, but when you have a live orchestra and you can see every individual with their instruments coming together and producing something like this, in a hall where the sounds just totally envelope you, it defies belief. Truely amazing talents out there. If you wanna experience Fantasia in its true form, book a live orchestra showing, its totally worth it.
I had just entered the University of Michigan as a music major when I went to a live concert (first of many) at Hill Auditorium. Theo Alcantara was the conductor. They played "Adagio for Strings," then some other piece I've forgotten, and ended with "The Pines of Rome." It changed my life. I left the theater stunned that music could do that. I still don't think I've attended another concert that wonderful. Maybe Mahler's 2nd or 8th symphonies. *** If you liked this video, check out the final segment from Fantasia 2000, the Mt. As a kid i always thought that the flying whales were the souls of the whales killed by men or well, just dead, who fly in their afterlife, and the sky becomes their new ocean Or it could be just magical whales, nature spirits or stuff, it has a lot of interpretations
It's been dry here, dry and hot with temps over 110°F daily. I had to go on a trip today, a long one, and I was listening to this just when I happened to be driving up a long long long road into a dark mountain. And lightning began to flash and thunder crash and then rain began dumping on my car. I was staring at the red tail lights of whatever was ahead of me, furiously trying to follow while this song was blasting through my car stereos and I was just... wow. It was cathartic and I'll never experience this song the same again.
Beautiful and truly a triumphant piece of art. I like the ideal of flying whales, even as a 6 year old boy. When I first viewed this film I fell in love., the symbolization that this piece displays the creative structure of "Pines Of Rome". In my opinion, it gives off a vibe which allows us to see that miracles and or hope lives within us all. As the story shows the baby whale is separated from its parents and is strict with grief, dismay and sadness. This part of the piece which this video shows is the fate and or destiny which hope leads. The message of this piece also gives off the message of the original score in its own self as well. From my point of view, "Pines Of Rome" emphasizes the themes of will-power, hope, and reminiscence with the victory of triumph. Thank you Disney and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for distributing such an excellent piece of work.
