Lyrics
Trapped in a prism, in a prism of light
Alone in the darkness, darkness of white
We fell in love, alone on a stage
In the reflective age
Entre la nuit, la nuit et l'aurore
Entre les royaumes, des vivants et des morts
If this is heaven
I don't know what it's for
If I can't find you there
I don't care
I thought, I found a way to enter
It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor)
I thought, I found the connector
It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor)
Now, the signals we send, are deflected again
We're still connected, but are we even friends?
We fell in love when I was nineteen
And I was staring at a screen
Entre la nuit, la nuit et l'aurore
Entre les voyants, les vivants et les morts
If this is heaven
I need something more
Just a place to be alone
'Cause you're my home
I thought, I found a way to enter
It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor)
I thought, I found the connector
It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor)
Just a reflektor
It's just a reflektor
(It's just a reflektor)
It's just a reflektor
(It's just a reflektor)
It's just a reflektor
(It's just a reflektor)
Reflektor (Just a reflektor)
(Just a reflektor) Just a reflektor
(Just a reflektor) Just a reflektor (reflektor)
(Just a reflektor)
(Just a reflektor)
(Just a reflektor, just a reflektor)
(Just a reflektor, just a reflektor)
Just a reflection, of a reflection
Of a reflection, of a reflection, of a reflection
Will I see you on the other side? (Just a reflektor)
We all got things to hide (Just a reflektor)
It's just a reflection of a reflection
Of a reflection, of a reflection, of a reflection
Will I see you on the other side? (Just a reflektor)
We all got things to hide (Just a reflektor)
Alright, let's go back
Our song escapes, on little silver discs
Our love is plastic, we'll break it to bits
I want to break free, but will they break me?
Down, down, down, don't mess around
I thought, I found a way to enter
It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor)
I thought, I found the connector
It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor)
It's just a reflektor
It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor)
It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor)
It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor)
Thought you would bring me to the resurrector
Turns out it was just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor)
Thought you would bring to me the resurrector
Turns out it was just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor)
Thought you would bring to me the resurrector
Turns out you were just a reflektor
It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor)
(It's just a reflektor) Just a reflektor
Just a reflektor
Just a reflektor
Just a reflektor
Will I see you on the other side?
It's just a reflektor
Will I see you on the other side? (reflektor)
We all got things to hide (reflektor)

4:54 I always get chills with the voice of David Bowie in that magical moment of the song. Rest In Peace. 🤍
Me, too. I just got it in my head listening to Ziggy Stardust and had to hear him in this song. I feel like he is pushing through the veil.
This song has a total Bowie vibe!
considering the message of the song and how DB died shortly after this, it's rather eerie and meta

Yes
Do people actually understand and comprehend the fact that David Bowie literally one of the greatest music stars of our time was so humble enough to sing a few lines on this track with no credit just because he liked the track! The world is a poorer place without people like that.
He was one of a kind for sure.
Bowie had great taste in music, that’s for sure.
😮which lines

Didn’t Bowie buy all the cdz of a f for his friends 😉
I love the fact that Bowie was involved in this. Apprently he was at the studio when they were recording it and he said "If you don't release this, I will"
Over 8 years and I still can’t get enough of this song. What an absolute epic masterpiece.
These people make timeless songs
i show this to show people a tiny piece of actual music..if im lucky they listen entirely, when that happens we got them
Terrible video though.
Rightly so
Missed that, university of Miami concert, thanks bro
David Bowie loved this band, and his contribution to this song is amazing. He did a lot of amazing things for music and will be missed.
man can you give me a link about this process please?
Bowie fue uno de los mejores músicos modernos, más grandiosos que han existido en la tierra. Junto con Juan Sebastian Bach. El alemán. Que fue barroco.
of course he did. He was a genious as Arcade fire as well...
omg I didn't even know but it makes so much sense
Ramon fernandez casi me da un ataque pensando que te referirías al rancherito pedofilo. Y si, Bowie es de los grandes.
How did I never realize that Bowie sang bits on this?? Incredible!
me neither haha. Such a great artist....
+PogieJoe and me neither though I've been listening to Arcade Fire for several years :)
+James Morris Yes, I read about that. He committed suicide 3 days later. Sad.
+Christopher Walker he didn't commit suicide he died of cancer
tadhg taylor-mcgreal LOL I'm glad you picked up on my morbid sense of humor. I really shouldn't even joke like that.
This is a masterpiece of modern music
I’ve been listening it for years and still giving me the chills

It's March 2024, and my wife just walked in and announced, "I've just discovered Arcade Fire!" Came to YT hoping to find a comment like this to post too.
When I first heard this song I thought it was repetitive and way too long. But the more I listened, the more I realized that it was an absolute masterpiece. It rises, it falls, it changes, it transforms. It gets quiet and it gets loud, and if you put headphones on you can hear every little sound and vocal that just add to this incredible experience. I'm so glad I caught on to it. Such an addicting and wonderful experience of a song.
Th.El.Co._1 I think thats kind of the definition of a perfect song, it constantly builds on itself until the climax.
It was a long, beautiful trip. See you on the other side.
The best songs are the ones you don’t like the first time you hear them
Fuckin Amazing rite. Just beautiful
Peter gildenhuys the best song almost
Damn, Bowie's voice was very fitting. Gave me chills.

Even more so now, huh?
+Adam Shuhart Let's just say you could grind diamonds on my skin
+cooljunkproductions It was a perfect collaboration...I love this.
+cooljunkproductions i got the chills too.... this song is more awesome now..
+cooljunkproductions Off topic, but I would like to thank you for the Jesus chatline vids that you posted
"If this is heaven,
I don't know what it's for;
If I can't find you there,
I don't care."
One of my all-time favourite quotes.
Hello. Good afternoon. So, do you love the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy? Please let me know in the comments down below.
Reflektor is the best album of the decade in my opinion. A perfect masterpiece.
I can't always get the hate from people towards this whole album. This album is the definition of what one of the best bands in world should do - pioneering, experimenting and innovating! The infusion of 70s,80s disco, electronica, dance punk (yah! when you know James Murphy was on the main producers list), twisted synthesizing and also the core of Arcade Fire themselves together with their long-standing interpretations of aesthetics, life and death. This was one of their best works, in fact, all 4 LPs were equally brilliant to me.
Their first four albums were all masterpieces in their own way. Its why I was so disappointed with "Everything Now". Hope they can get back to basics on the next one
Speaking about Janes Murphy, this is the most LCD SOUNDSYSTEMESQUE song I've ever heard by a band that wasn't LCD SOUNDSYSTEM and I mean it as a compliment
Yeah if anything Everything Now is the not the same it’s like a dance pop album it had some good songs but I wasn’t too about it
I really disliked everything now when it was released but now it has really grown on me
@@george1991ish Totally agree! Initially it felt like such a major disappointment after Reflektor, but after seeing them perform it live, I was suddenly converted.
You know you've made it when DAVID FUCKING BOWIE is providing backing vocals!
Oh yeah ;)
+Darth Bobo EPIC!!! :)
+Darth Bobo No freaking kidding. They must feel pretty good knowing Bowie likes their stuff.
+Darth Bobo Yes he of the legend... He also said if you don't want it (AF)
I will make it (Bowie)
did you hear the story about it? AF recording and bowie's recording his, he pops in and AF ask what he thought (I think if I'm right in remembering Af were unsure if they wanted to use it) and bowie says use it. because if you don't I want it. so AF said join in on vocals. One of my favourite bowie stories.
The song, the rythm, the story, the lyrics, the double language, the video clip and David Bowies voice... its just beyond perfect, this song is orgasmic!!!
I've been to many concerts, but theirs was so fun! It was the Reflektor tour, it was a total party and there was a dress code telling you to dress up on the ticket which made it even better and honestly people got into it and it completely changed the atmosphere. Hope to see them again on tour soon!
What was the dress code?
The french part means "between night, night and dawn. Between the kingdoms of the living and the dead," and I think that's cool.
Josie P. This song was groovy as hell and really socially conscious deep down to its core. It’s like about some Shakespearean or Greek mythological stories that are some prophetic truth written in stone somewhere, the laws of love and the universe and technology and religion, it’s all related really interesting actually
There's also a nice piece of word play here too.
"La nuit et l’aurore" sounds a lot like “l'ennui et l'horreur” which means "boredom and horror". This kinda deepens the remarks that are being made about the reflective age.
VERY interesting perspective there! Especially given the subsequent "between the realms of the living and the dead" aspect!
@@chris12349876 Im French and she said " la nuit et l'aurore"
@@seb3054 Yes, you're right! But I think it's a great example of a homonym. The two words sound very similar. Maybe that's to me though, my French isn't native and I could be wrong!
The ending from 4:50 with Bowie's vocals + the piano are so damn rousing and giving me so much goosebumps, I wanna jump on my office desk and throw away my computer dancing and shouting! (like Claire in an episode of Six Feet Under)
Love the Claire shoutout
He loved the band big time so his talents run through him wanting to be part of it
That piano riff at 5:28 has been my soul since I discovered this song in my teens. 🤪🤪♥️ Love you Reflektor. The experience you give is unique, haunting and exhilarating. Rock on Arcade Fire 🔥🔥 🔥🔥 🔥
yesss, its awesomeee
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
When this album came out, it completely, totally, wholeheartedly dominated my entire existence for a solid year. I was utterly obsessed with this album. An audio timestamp, a marker of my life in 2013.
Me too. Side a 6 months before I even listened to b. Lol
You nailed it. Time stamps is what AF albums were. I have so much good memories even boring ones that wrap around the albums and discovery sequence that pushes me to feel then and way back then and it freaking hurts those years are far far back and I got no soul to consume on the last two albums so far. EN pre release holds a memory and It's my fault I think. I designed that album including title amd guest musician. That's y infinite content is like ehhh.....magical rocket engines hanging down and mask worn way pre 19 that's that I am stayed out of all the other albums hahaha ahhhhh
This is a brilliant song, and Bowie's participation (admittedly small) makes it even better. His voice is absolutely haunting.
How does this chorus never get old? It's so good. No matter how many times they repeat it, I just want to hear it again.
i know how you feel its amazing
I cant take it out off ny head!!!
I remember them doing this on SNL with the Reflektor box & Tina Fey being SO excited to announce they were going to stick around and play a whole set. SO JEALOUS! Such artistry.
That's the first time I heard the music and this song. I wouldn't normally ever listen to anything like this but this song is gold

About Bowie participation, from Wikipedia:
Richard Reed Parry noted, "It was just after The Next Day had come out. He basically just came by the studio in New York while we were mixing, just to have a listen to the stuff we were doing. He offered to lend us his services because he really liked the song. In fact, he basically threatened us - he was like, 'If you don't hurry up and mix this song, I might just steal it from you!' So we thought, well why don't we go one better, why don't you sing on our version? Thankfully he obliged, and we were really happy about that."
The power of talent.
That quote makes it sound like the band weren't fans, didn't want him on, sad, thang is son, Bowie was dying of cancer, was on his mind, he would've featured his voice for free on any poppy piece of crap just to be nice and leave more of himself in this world, could be wrong, but hell, if Bowie asked to be on my song I'd have him sing more than 1 super short line more than 2 times. But hopefully the quote is just the dude bragging, meaning he is a fan.
John Razimus Why on earth would you interpret a quote like that so cynically. Like holy shit obviously its a joke, anyone with a dayjob of music is going to be honoured to feature david bowie in their music but you have to understand its mutual respect and David was probably honoured to have a part in it.
SW, you're an idiot. I'm a real Bowie fan, you're a bandwagon hot topic fan only after-death. Does your middle name start with J by any chance? LOL
John Razimus could you back up your reasoning for that please? Because it looks like to me that you just can't come up with an actual argument so just took to hurling unfounded insults. LOL

surely one of the most ambitious releases in recent memory? 3 part song structure, intense music video, guest vocal appearance from David Bowie
Bowie singing “thought you were praying to the resurrector, turns out it was just a reflektor” gets me
In my opinion, this is one of the greatest songs of all time. The layering and build-up is incredible. It is also surprising; when you believe it has finished or is carrying a traditional style, it automatically flips the tables and becomes new. Incredible :)
Hipnotic
that's right.
Couldn't agree more, to my taste it's indeed one of the best songs ever made.
It is a very well done song, the structure, the production, reflektor really isn’t a bad album at all I think people just don’t like the change in style and their attempts to dull down their musics intent to a more commercially radio friendly pop audience. It is understandable that this would polarize fans, a lot who were more into their first 3 more indie rock albums but The Suburbs really made the band blow up and start to change, that’s what happens in the music industry
Good analysis. I absolutely think it's one of the greatest songs of all time. When it hits the breakdown (the shot where they're crawling on the ground) I get chills every time.
Love when she sings in French. so beautiful
Easily their greatest song. Such an underrated band and song. I could honestly listen to her read me the phone book in French.
I feel like the last two minutes of the song are so necessary and really makes this song epic
Still my favorite song ever. I remember the first time I heard it on the radio I nearly crashed the car I got so into it. Especially the way the song changes. Spine-tingling stuff.

the lyrics to this song just perfectly describe how I feel at the moment with the guy who broke my heart. it's strange, but especially the part "now the signals we send are deflected again, we're still connected, but are we even friends?" makes me feel a certain way. this song is a masterpiece.

Arcade Fire seems to be one of the few modern bands David Bowie 'adopted' and reflected his ideals/artistry. I sincerely think that if he were to live on in anyone's music outside of his own, it would be Arcade Fire's. He loved them so much and they lost a mentor today. Prayers for them and, of course, for David's family.
Elle J. Winsett without you I'm nothing
I always noticed Bowie was particularly vocal in which bands he liked; Pixies, Placebo, NIN, AF, countless bands, the drum and base scene he even liked Secret Machines. His band - name evapes me - from his final ablum was approached after he saw them play.
@@jackjude even death grips
To me this is their Stairway to heaven (in a positive way). One of those longer songs by a great band that seems like it's only a couple minutes long when you listen to it. Great band.

No, your name is sh!t, this song is fantastic.
***** Go back to your classic rock videos. Once again someone who isn't able to take his or her time to understand a simple comment. I never said this is a great song (even though I DO believe that) but that it's one of those very long songs that is more fun to listen to than most 3-4 minute long songs.

I can't get over how good this song is. Such a masterpiece of good rhythm composition. Everything. And it's just a reflector. Imagine the original of the original
This song has one of the most perfect progressions of music. There are songs you hear and you think, they should have taken this farther...not this song. This song moves through each stanza into the final climax of sound. It is so perfect I can’t help close my eyes and I cannot seem to ever watch the video. God knows I have tried. It is just too good not to close my eyes and listen to every chord.
This Arcade Fire song sure has the music video that takes the band back to their Funeral days.
I was kind of expecting Bowie to be the guy in the mirror suit.
Awesome song! Missing Bowie. Great collaboration!

it seems the cats in arcade fire never run out of creative ideas. they actually kind of took a bit of an electronic almost talking heads-esque new wave turn on this one. I think what makes this song/video brilliant is that its constantly building, building, creating more and more tension, building but never really quite gets resolved and I admire that they dont ever really spell out a meaning or explain anything in any way. modern day abstract art in music and video done effortlessly
