  • Cab view from Shinjuku Station to Akabane Station on the JR East Shonan-Shinjuku Line. Photographed in February 2024
The cab window is a little dirty. Please be aware of this.(It's a little noticeable in the middle of the video. Sorry.) (-人-)
The Shonan-Shinjuku Line is a new train service in the Tokyo area that began operation in 2001. Until then, trains on the Tokaido Main Line operated with Tokyo Station as their terminal, but the Shonan-Shinjuku Line route does not go through Tokyo Station, but through Shinjuku Station, which is further west. This route was developed by repurposing old freight line tracks.
The area around Tokyo Station is a relatively old business district and is home to the headquarters of large companies, but its development tends to be stagnant, whereas the area around Shinjuku Station has many commercial facilities and attracts a large number of people.
Therefore, there had been a plan for some time to make Shinjuku Station a new terminal to replace Tokyo Station, and the opening of the Shonan-Shinjuku Line in 2001 was the realization of that plan. JR was not sure whether this new train system would be successful, and at first only a small number of trains were in operation, but the number of trains has gradually increased, and now it has become an important trunk line comparable to the Tokaido Main Line.
Shonan-Shinjuku Line trains run further north from Shinjuku Station, heading towards Omiya Station via Ikebukuro Station and Akabane Station. Trains also run in multiple directions beyond Omiya Station.
This video covers the area from Shinjuku Station to Akabane Station. From Shinjuku Station, the Shonan-Shinjuku Line runs along the Yamanote Line, changing direction to the left at the end of Komagome Station. This time, it runs north parallel to the Keihin Tohoku Line and reaches Akabane Station. From the vicinity of Kaminakazato Station, a high elevated railway line runs parallel to your right. This is the Tohoku Shinkansen line.

I liked this video of an express train. Especially seeing other lines come and go alongside this line, and watching their stations pass by. Thanks.

Actually, I would like to upload regularly on Saturday or Sunday mornings. I don't have that much leeway yet. I would be happy if you could take a leisurely look at it whenever you like.
