  • One our our guests today, Milo Collier, aged 6 from Walthamstow, spotted something travelling at speed past The View from The Shard windows. Milo and other eye-witnesses have been quick to identify the flying object as Father Christmas and his famous sleigh!
A spokesperson for The View from The Shard has said: “As the only place to see all of London, we have worked closely with Mr Claus over the last couple of years to assist his navigation plans through the city on Christmas Eve. With the skyline changing year-on-year, it was decided that a test flight was necessary this year, which we can confirm took place on Friday 18 December at 10:00 hours. For more information, please contact the North Pole Press Office.”
Other recorded sightings emerging online also include video from a shopper at Borough Market who caught the flypast on camera from just under the well-known market canopy. This year UK air traffic control company NATS was able to film some of Father Christmas’ pre-Christmas planning visit, and while he declined an interview, it gave a special insight into a unique airspace user: vimeo.com/1473...
A spokesperson for UK air traffic control company, NATS said: “Creating a flight plan that allows Mr Claus to deliver presents to millions of children in just a few hours is incredibly complex work. The planning has to be meticulous, which includes working with buildings such as The Shard to take into account the ever changing London sky-line.”
Looking ahead to the big night, believers can visit The View from The Shard which will be open until 17:30 on Christmas Eve (sunset 15:55), for their chance to spot Father Christmas on his London rounds. Visit www.theviewfromtheshard.com for more information and to book tickets.
