Portrait of Sitting Bull, 1890, by Caroline Weldon | Showcase

Oil on canvas portrait of Sitting Bull by Caroline Weldon, dated 1890 -- one of two presumed to have been lost. (Weldon's relationship with Sitting Bull was the subject of the 2017 movie, Woman Walks Ahead, with Jessica Chastain as Weldon.) Of the four portraits of the Sioux leader she is known to have painted, one is in the North Dakota Historical Society, another in the Historic Arkansas Museum.
The painting is lot #100 in Blackwell Auctions' The American Sale, March 18, 2023.

Saw the movie, with M, Greye Eyes. Out damned standing. Particularly the robes worn by bro, Greyeyes. Breathtaking. A sight to behold.

This painting should be given to the Lakota Nation, if they want it. Otherwise, it should go to a museum. IT SHOULD NOT BE IN A PRIVATE COLLECTION JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE HAS A LOT OF MONEY!
