Martha Summerhayes, author of "Vanished Arizona", described how Native American women came to her aid when she gave birth to her son alone after a difficult delivery. She described how she lay exhausted, unable to care for her son, when through the door came the wives of the local Native American chiefs. They washed her, the baby, tidied up the cabin, put the baby in a hanging cradle next to her, fed her and then left. She wrote she shed tears saying goodbye to them when her husband's tour of duty ended. Kipling was right when he wrote "Judy O'Grady and the Colonel's wife are sisters under the skin."
He rhymed Lady with O''Grady, of course:
"When you get to a man in the case, They're like as a row of pins - For the Colonel's Lady an' Judy O'Grady Are sisters under their skins"
Very lovely story. I’ll have to get vanishing Arizona. And I should read that Kipling poem.
Michael Greyeyes is one of the best looking Native Americans. He is a dancer a choreographer a professor. He tries to help young people. He loves his heritage. He is a great actor. He played Sitting Bull in Woman Who Walks Ahwith Jessica Chastain. He never betrays his heritage. I would love to meet him.😊

Always heard about how modern Germany had a lot of respect and has pretty good movies about indigenous people and culture guess I should check it out
I like how you pointed out "modern germany"
@@azimsiddiqui4773 🤣😂🤣😂
Minus the modern? Hmm
They're making up for Nazi Germany and Hitler's adoration of the American subjugation of the Natives. After all, according to Russell Means, the Nazi concentration camps were modeled after the American reservation system. .
Lol💦
Just came from a video where people were asking why the Germans were speaking English, and now I'm gonna ask why Americans and native tribes are speaking German.
These were German settlers
Amtssprache ist Deutsch 😜
because there was a large population of German settlers in Buffalo Humps area. They even had a separate understanding and peace agreement with them.
I never heard of this film before. That's probably because it was a German language production, filmed in South Africa and released exclusively on German television. And the title of this film, translated from the original German, is, In a Wild Country.
Anyhow, I saw a Swedish film series ages ago with a similar tone and narrative that took place in the same timeline as this German film.
It was The Emigrants (1971) and the follow-on film The New Land (1972) with Max von Sydow & Liv Ullmann.
The movies were based on a book series by Vilhelm Moberg and were about a struggling Swedish farmer who, in search of a better life, moved his family to the Minnesota territory in the 1840s.
Both films were excellent. So much so that they were both nominated for multiple Awards, and both films won the Golden Globe for best foreign film.
And to top things off, ABC Television in 1974 made an Americanized show based
on films called, The New Land, which starred a very young Kurt Russell.
But the show only lasted one season despite getting good reviews. (✿◠‿◠)
The Natives are somehow smart enough to spend years learning the Settlers language, but not smart enough to stare at a settler for 10 seconds from afar to learn how to use a Rifle. All these Native American movies feel like they're made for Kinky Women who fantasize about being kidnapped by a Native American.
Movies sometimes reveal truths seldom spoken…LOL
Huh well buddy not sure how feel bout that one but hey try look at native culture more than in movies

@@billyblackmon4796 i bet they did not even bother.. there are some really good N.A actors... but i feel they do not count for nothing. easier to continue to step on them and put on a black wig + bronzer... makes me furious..

I love them too I'm from Morocco native north Africa
We never left, lol. I am Catawba.
My people live on our reservation in Northern North Dakota. I live in Hawaii. We are college educated and bought our own land.
This is a comic mish-mash. Clothing of the settlers and covered wagons -- that's at least mid-19th-Century and really post Civil War. The Gatlin gun was definitely post Civil War. The rile should therefore be breech-loaded and relatively modern. The natives were very aware of American/European technology and weapons by this time. Spanish traders and French trappers had given them glimpses of all of this for the better part of 200 years. The threat of American settlement was population moving westward, not mysterious magic boom-boom sticks.
Most of the Native American/Indian tribes treated white women with respect and did not hurt or harm them in anyway.
I heard a native man talk about this once, he said that one of the things that angered white men to no end in those days was when a white woman wanted to go live and assimilate with the natives. They would make up stories about her being raped or whatever as an excuse to go hurt them.
No, not at all, that's just what mainstream movies tell us.
Pretty sure it didn't play out like that, they were made slaves and beaten and harassed by pretty well every women in the village *(as rules of politeness didn't apply to captives/slaves) older women were normally given to some old widowed man who needed a woman to cook and clean for him, younger women and girls were in some cases adopted as a daughter by a couple who had lost a child, which in that case she would be accepted as a tribal member and treated with the respect as such.
@@pluckybellhop66 I think that the old native American men was projecting so hard lol, because in reality the opposite was happened way way more. Allot of native American women wanted to live like white people and this angered the native American men allot and still nowdays this thing makes them angry when naive American girls leave native reservations and go for the white people lifestyle.
@@chetawitko7031 Agree.
Heck, lots of college men would not know how to load , fire , and maintain a black powder firearm today. I have met some that could not change a flat tire.
Why would anyone want to learn to "load, fire, and maintain a black powder firearm"? We have AR's, and many different types of rounds for them.
@@antigonish63 you didn't get his point, lad
@@juhannusruusu My point is that it’s a skill we don’t need to learn these days. Knowing how to maintain an AR is a needed skill.
Oh yes. I recall the time when a car had a decent spare tyre. Those times are long gone.
@@Kaiserbill99 You still get decent spare tires, it's just not that easy anymore.
Are you saying learning German is easier than using a gun?
Yes
@@aarongarza2915 Then go on - prove it
@@7bloodyTears Is a joke and maybe I will , or not im kinda lazy
Exactly! The Natives are somehow smart enough to spend years learning the Settlers language, but not smart enough to stare at a settler for 10 seconds from afar to learn how to use a Rifle. All these Native American movies feel like they're made for Kinky Women who fantasize about being kidnapped by a Native American.
Well if you really want to find fault. That was a percussion cap rifle. You dont pour powder into the pan, it doesnt have one.
And Native Americans should be played by native America actors.. not white men with fake hair and bronzer... makes me sick.
@@goymedhundDogtrainingBehavior There is no more native Americans left. Native American women breed with other races at higher levels than any other race/species on earth. The closest thing you will find to a pureblood Native American these days would be a Mexican, and most Mexicans are more European than they are Native American.
@@Eighteenxray I am not so sure about that.. I am "two spirited " mixed native myself - and off course there has ben a lot of N.A men/ women that has had kids with white people, but i have heard of many N.A that can trace several generations pure blood back.. I know the gouvernment would love to see the blood diluted to such an exctent that they could take the land and the resources "legally".. but i do not think that would happen. Native people are working to stop it and i am so happy to see young couple - of any tribe - find love and have fullblood children together. There are so many great traits in Indigenous DNA - we need that for the future.
The name of the movie 🎬?
I grew up in an Indian neighborhood. A good looking Indian was rare.
i mean you aren’t either lol
Says the white woman 😂
This is a german movie made in South Africa.
One woman said: " they are humans, just like us...they have compassion".
The real Comanches back in the 1800s were humans but had no compassion whatsoever with white captives.
Yet they signed a treaty with German settlers in Texas, the Meusebach treaty. The only treaty between both races that was never broken by either side.
Look up Cynthia Ann Parker she married a chief and was treated good. She actually wanted to be with back with the Comanche, After her white family found her she didn't want to be with them. She starved herself because they wouldn't let her return to her Comanche family.
@@tilarose151 I know the Parker-story pretty well. Cynthia Ann was immediately adopted into a Comanche family. So was her brother John and her cousin Pratt Plummer. From this day onward they were considered Comanche by the Comanches. The Comanches made little difference between someb. born into the tribe or somebody stolen from elsewhere, if they were so lucky to be adopted. Slaves were another matter as they were treated very cruelly devoid of any "compassion". Check the case of Mathilda Lockart which is just one among many cases.
@@tilarose151 her son was the last Comanche war chief !
@@ottodidakt3069 YES! Quanah Parker 🙂
"Buffalo hump"? Dare I ask how he got that name?
Wait... Hol up!
The Natives in this movie are oblivious to guns!? Before the United States exist, the Natives are already using guns bet and after the French and Indian War
Smuggling, whites tardes arms to natives in exchange for buffalo skins. Not all natives had contact at the same time with Europeans there there are different tribes from Alaska to the center and in the Caribbean to Cabo de Hornos and nothing else in the United States is or was great diversity I'm sure.
french and indian war was cool...i think was 12 or 1400 british to 900 frenchmen and canadians and native americans instructed on tactics used by native american forces. brits got totaled 977 to 39 washington knew he was beat and had em pull out
You are partially correct. The diffusion of European (white) technology across the continent was a long process. The French and Indian War was fought in the east, long before natives farther west had traded for guns. That said, horses and guns moved more or less together, so if a tribe had horses and knew how to ride them, they almost certainly had seen guns. And by the mid-1800s (when this film was set), all the tribes out west had access to guns. Whether they also had access to powder and bullets is another question.
This particular gun is a Howitzer. Howitzers work differently from other guns at the time. It's more of a cannon and mortar. The Howitzers didn't make it out West till later.
I love Mila´s character and i get her point, but she ended married with one of them, the Chief Buffalo Hump, and probably giving birth a lot of kids by him. She should never have called them trash.
Sadly they call that to any foreign than their own 💯
I have only seen this clip so I do not know much about this show, but if someone was holding me against my will I most likely would not be calling them sweetheart!
@@allencampbell1058 Who is "they"?
@@richardlug6139 the Whiteman were less merciful, you know this right? Wounded Knee ..there were women and children, yet the bluecoats slew them all without mercy.

American Mini Series "Into the West" Covers one family through several generations. It begins with the trappers going west going through westward expansion and ending with somewhere after the railroad, gold rush, land runs etc. It covers the entire history of what happened to the Native American people. It's an eye opener and I feel that everyone should watch.
@@allilililii maybe Crazy Horse 1996, True Women, Big Bear mini series, Children Of The Dust, Cheyenne Warrior, Unbowed, Follow The River, Dreamkeeper.
Where can I watch this movie?
This is silly. Long before German immigrants arrived, French/Russian trappers, escaped indentured servants, slaves, European traders had taught the natives they met how to utilize rifles and guns. One thing no tribe that I know of created was their own gun powder and loaded rounds in casings. That tech seemed to have escaped them. Maybe make a German movie teaching the red man how to load casings with a bullet loader and make gun powder. And of course a lot of heaving, wanting women.
To satisfy the progressive nature of the entertainment industry they also have to overlook the savage atrocities FIrst Nationers carried out against each other.
Not even that. Soldiers taught them. American Indians and european colonists were allies (some tribes with some, other tribes with others). They exchanged resources, weapons, and warfare instruction routinely for nearly a century. all these movies are revised history trash. The American Indians were notorious savages no different than barbaric primitive nords (or any other of similar technology and lifestyle). Later, when the conflicts intensified, they took whatever they could, rayped tortured and murdered children, and once the fighting started they intentionally target/ambushed non-military soft targets (like woe-meyn children) because they knew they were inferior in any form of military-vs-military combat (even guerilla combat was targeted intentionally against soft targets almost always). SOME tribes were respectable, honorable, and had wisdom and integrity. MOST were violent, opportunistic, tribal primitives no different than any other at that development stage in any other part of the world. Lies and BS trying to revise history. Saddest of all is their descendants being so weak/pathetic to not respect their ancestors enough to be honest about their strength and ferocity. Imagine tranny norse "meyn" to start whining about the poor oppressed vikings being picked on by their neighbors. Hope it never happens.

The movie title makes me feel wrong. I’m not Native American but North America wasn’t wild land. To the settler - it is best put as a conquest. To the native - they r being robbed. Maybe I’m just reading too much into this.
To the settlers it was wild, I guess. Of course the natives had been living there since the Ice Ages and took such great care of the land that it was practically in pristine condition.
The native Americans took territory, possessions, lives, slaves, against other tribes, just like the rest of the world’s civilizations did to others.
