One-week construction time-lapse with closeups: Week 5 of the Ⓢ-series

- Week 5 in the ongoing Ⓢ series, which follows the construction of a new 13-story senior living building in San Francisco. This is a #construction #timelapse with various closeups and "sub-time-lapses" at various speeds, condensing the week of March 2 - 7, 2020, into about 35 minutes.
This is the first week with the new #towercrane at the site, and we see some checking as it gets ready and starts working. The base time-lapse camera is so close to the site that I chose to focus in on the ground-level site itself, rather than getting in the whole crane in the base video, because the site just becomes too small when zoomed all the way out, plus there is an aspect ratio issue). You can see the base time-lapse zoomed all the way out at the very end.
There's more foundation excavation (including the old 1891 foundation that we saw last week), and some precision #excavator work to level out the bottom of the site, just in time for a concrete pour. There are trucks being loaded, and various other people doing various other interesting things. At the end, some concrete sawing with a remote-controlled saw.
This episode almost didn't make it, due to some internal technical problems that I won't go into here, plus a few mistakes/mishaps on my part, plus lack of time on my part. But I made it. Among the technical problems is that the clocks on the various cameras got out of sync somehow, so you may occasionally see some time mismatches between the closeups and the base video.
All of it is set to a hodgepodge of various music tracks, licensed from Audio Network (in chronological order):
Trouble Comes - Adam Drake, Tom Jenkins (3166/3)
Cats Eyes - Jonathan Lloyd, Nathan Coen (2930/2)

Attended college on Post Street in 1968-1970 and watched the construction of St. Mary's from our parking lot...good times. Thanks for the old neighborhood video.
the flex in the tower crane is amazing !
This is so fascinating... so many different things happening at the same time
These time-lapse videos you do are awesome, keep up the good work bud!
For a guy who loves to watch how things are made/built, you have satisfied a desire! One of the best time-lapse video's I have seen! Loving the zoom in and highlight on a particular feature that we would easily miss during the time-lapse. You have gotten a new sub!
Much much better music this week, thank you! Also really fantastic video! Foundation work is my favorite.😃
Good dear
Nicely done, love the way you highlight an area and zoom in! NICE!! Looking forward to the next episode, digging the music as well!
Well, out of the hundreds of videos I watch per week. No I don't watch TV anymore! Your video is in the top five. 😀
Great video. You can learn alot just by watching. The men and women work very hard to bring visions to reality. 👍
I love these videos. They are the only ones on UA-cam that I wish would keep going on and on. The camera work is great as is the music.
Well done, feel proud.
Just wish we didn't have to wait a week between :)
Hello from the UK, it's been brilliant watching these weekly episodes, makes the time fly in isolation, stay safe everyone.
Another amazing video in the books for the best construction building channel on UA-cam
Is the man inspecting the tower crane wearing clown pants?
This could be the best video on you tube. Thank you .
I've changed my mind, I think it's the top video of all videos. Awesome job 🥇🏆😀
Well, I agree! ;-)
best time lapse ever.. thanks..
Its an amazing orchestra of activity! Thanks for taking the time to edit it
looking forward to the next venture ! It is time I see , the structure begins its growth out of the hole. Ground " ZERO " is placed !
I’ll see this build up tomorrow on my pc. Love your videos.
Thank you for your hard work. Those videos are so cool to watch. I also like your commentary and those zoom-ins.
Thank you!
Week 5 WOOHOO!!!
Thank you. Please continue ...
Great job as usual. Thanks
Great video, keep them coming. on your preview you show workers working In the Rain. First time I've seen rain on these videos.
Yes, San Francisco set an unfortunate record in February, which is normally part of the rainy season, but we went the whole month of February with no rain at all, the first time since records have been kept that happened (although once, back in 1864, they got just a tiny bit, but this February broke that record with no rain at all).
Superbe travail -méthode,et organisation extra 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I remember the crane stand built right inside the elevator shaft.
Excellent series really enjoying all your videos oh yeh and most ofthe music lol👍👍👌👌Bill from the UK
5:30 Since they were tearing out some of the churches foundation, they could have saved some to do a St Mary tribute a planter around trees etc. or a small wall of the red brick....
Waiting for the next video. Tq..
Great video, at times it is hard to follow all that is happening the zoom ins help with that. I await the next one. Stay safe😷
Great video .... thanks !!!!
I love these .
Awesome videos glad I found your channel keep them coming 👍🏼
Bless u dear
Love it! Keep up your good work!
Very cool. Like from Russia, Yekaterinburg
Another great video. Thanks.
A request for consideration in the future, when the building raises around the tower crane...
Like others I'm amazed by how much these towers move as they rotate, or pickup and drop loads. It's quite noticeable in the high-speed time-lapses. It was even more evident in some of the shots of the hospital construction.
I'd love to see a 1X closeup, while the crane is working, of the tower with the building up several stories around it, to understand how much it moves in real time.
Your request is noted!!
@@HospitalConstruction Thanks.
Nice, very nice! Greets from Germany!!
Vielen Dank, Grüße aus Kalifornien
Sangat tertarik melihat cara kerjany 👍 salut 💪💪💪💪
Great job
Good stuff again!!! Sad they don’t preserve the old brickwork to incorporate into new building some way or another 🤔😏👎🏻 why did 2guys get lifted onto crane via being lifted by a basket..... use the dam ladder......🤔😂
Parabéns muito bom os vídeos
I imagine these videos might be useful if there is some problems with the finished building years later, to hold the builder accountable if some shortcuts or mistakes were made?
Fantastic time-lapse once again. Really like the zoom-ins of various trades. Whoever the GC is on the job, they're doing a good job.
Are you on-site all day? Or can you adjust the cameras remotely?
The Music Awesome.. I really enjoy watch your video.. :)
Good bro
Awesome video quality. What cameras are you using?
12:35 отверстия под анкеровку подпорной стены
17:48 установка анкеров подпорной стены
the crane is settled for the weight, securities, area border. all the things for her not to fall with computer 1 and border to unallow her to go over the road with computer number 2
Uses cutting saw to cut concrete edge then gets labourer to smash with a haha and then he shovels it in to a bobcat bucket! Hahaha
Americans ... 🤣🤷🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
so much for the bricks
So next week we’ll see the flying “porta-potties”? I see they have arrived. (Look at week 60 set 2 hospital construction)
What did that lady measure on the ground with her yellow equipment please ?
I have been trying to figure out exactly where this is.
Judging from a Tesla dealership in an urban area, I think it's at O'Farrell and Van Ness. Google Maps still shows an old building.
Is that correct?
You can usually see the date the footage in Google was taken, so if it was before Feb 2020 or so then it should be the old building.
Watch here dear
19:44 a Ghost 😂😉 | The second Komatsu on the right
We saw the same movement of the bucket in the previous week's video.
Hydraulics sneaking down maybe.
35:35 dude is no rod buster!
Have you noticed, there's always some poor sucker that has to drive a JCB1 (a shovel)!
brilliant, once again. What kind of cameras are you using?
I suppose this crane is not gonna raise any higher as the cranes in the H series did. Cause I didn't see any tower mast jacking module installed.
I believe you are correct
Thats a ton of time & resources on screening. What is typical done with the screened soil?
16:52 This person is a compaction tester. The machine test's the compaction of the ground. Jobs i did, the compaction results should be 90-92% to be able to pass the test.
I believe It can also test for water density in the soil aswell.
There was no compaction other than the excavators and the loader
@@ihsanabdulhadi7262 well that can be some sort of compaction I guess.
4:35 Graffiti on the chain-link fence is gone.
Nice pants.
I thought for a second they had brought a clown on site to entertain the workers for some reason. Only for a second though
continue .. we wait more videos
No problem see here
I wonder how far the tower tilts when the grand turns?
21:35 :D workout/stretching :D
no way would i go on that crane.....that thing shakes...nope not gonna happen lol
Debe de ganar bien alguien haciendo eso.
From 22:00 to 24:00, they pour a concrete platform at the back of the site with no reinforcement. Won't that crack eventually?
That's just there to give a clean platform to work on (instead of working in dirt). You are going to be seeing boatloads of rebar assembled on top of that in weeks to come before the actual slab is poured.
@@HospitalConstruction - Thank you for the explanation. I look forward to the next segment.
you might hear the term "rat slab" used by construction crews, its a non structural slab
also called a mud slab
leveling con'c, sub slab, sole plate con'c, junk con'c ......
I am also a builder, but I work at a construction site in Russia
The S Series of Hospital Construction Still On Work While Having a USA Lockdown because of COVID19
👍👍
does the building company know you are filming
Подскажите для чего колёса сверху на бетономешалках около лотка?
19:08 anchored soldier piles?
👍💯💯💯
Is there any chance that we can get the structural drawings? So we can see and compare with the construction?
I don't have access to those. It is possible something might be available online through SF DBI, but I haven't done any searching.
Thnx
When the crane is being rotated in the first 5 minutes of the video, it is actually tilting to the side a little. Is that safe?
It is normal for the crane to twist and flex a significant amount as the load moves. I'm not an expert, but I believe it is better for it to be a bit flexible than for it to be completely rigid.
yeah bud if it was rigid it would just snap,
Please credit the music in first three songs. (Ok first ten? I'm only in a few minutes- that second song brought back college memories, who was it?)
The songs are listed in the UA-cam description, in chronological order
6:50
What's the orange mesh for?
Anyone know what the holes at 13:20 are for?
vlf0lh41 - pretty sure it is some type of an earth wall anchor; this linked video is likely very close to the technique they are using. Open the video description for info. - ua-cam.com/video/bKeU6N5HWyw/v-deo.html
NewsNowFRESNO, yep, tie backs to keep the walls from caving in.
Thanks!
May I ask a question about 15:40 what the guy's did , sorry i have no idea.
He was a surveyor, he was laying out a specific point for something.
As CC says a surveyor. I suspect he is setting out the line that near the end we see the concrete saw trim that ledge back.
week 5, how much 'muck away' was excavated//

Good dear
I don't get those american construction sites 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The workers are digging frantically and then suddenly create two cocoons at the left of the screen against the wall. ua-cam.com/video/7DrFzkyyrG4/v-deo.html It will be interesting to see what emerges after metamorphosis.
Those cocoons are there so the workers don't get rained on, it looks like they're trying to connect to the City's sewer system, the deepest underground, and probably the city's water system. I wonder where the other utilities (electric, cable, telephone) will enter the building?

What the hell are they building here. A missile tower

Don't worry. This will all come crashing to a halt when the environmentalists determine the site to be a habitat for the brown recluse spider. It is CA after all.
