Guyana's Game Changing Oil Discovery

  • Could this country Become the Richest in the World?
Guyana has struck oil. This small South American state, situated to the North of Brazil and the East of Venezuela has a bright future providing it can manage its coming explosive development properly. The extent of the oil discovery within the two hundred nautical miles exclusive economic zone off of the coast of Guyana will undoubtedly transform the country, with the estimated oil find dwarfing the state’s current $7 billion GDP.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oil exploration in Guyana began in the 1940s, however, things ramped up off the state’s coast in 2008 when oil companies such as ExxonMobil, Century Guyana and CGX began to undertake widespread oil exploration. In 2000, a US geological survey estimated the region had recoverable reserves of more than 13.6 billion barrels of oil and 32 trillion cubic feet of gas - the second highest resource potential among unexplored oil basins in the world.
The areas thought to contain oil within Guyana’s exclusive economic zone have been divided into blocks, as is standard in maritime oil drilling. In May 2015 Exxon Mobil announced that it had discovered oil-bearing sandstone reservoirs which could produce 700 million barrels of oil, with a total market value of 40 billion dollars within the Stabroek oil block situated 200 kilometres off of the Guyanese coastline. In the following three years, Exxon went on to discover a further four billion barrels of oil equivalent in the Stabroek Block, which has since been doubled to eight billion in 2020.
In the wake of the findings in 2015, in 2016 the Guyanese government signed a deal with ExxonMobil worth three hundred and twenty-five billion us dollars for a drilling license within Stabroek, giving it access to the now eight billion barrels of oil equivalent - the deal of a lifetime for Guyana, perhaps?
Well, this is not entirely the case.
International watchdog Global Witness has pointed out that ExxonMobil may have pressured the Guyanese government into a rushed deal which would deprive the country of 55 billion dollars. According to Global Witness, Guyanese authorities did not negotiate strongly with ExxonMobil which has a profit stake of 48%, while the Guyanese government has a profit stake of 50% and a royalty stake of 2%. This would be abnormally low when compared with other similar cases, where states normally receive sixty-five to eighty-five per cent of profits, meaning Guyana would receive one hundred and sixty-eight billion dollars instead of a potential two hundred and twenty-three billion dollars which would be considered fair in the view of Global Witness.
The issue of the oil deal has permeated Guyanese politics. A snap general election was held in March 2020, after a vote of no confidence in David Granger’s PNC government in 2018. The deal with ExxonMobil and terms it was agreed upon were at the heart of the election, with many in the press calling this latest election the most important since the state’s independence since 1966. In a controversial election, where it was initially thought that the PNC government which had signed that 2016 deal with Exxon had won, the People’s Progressive Party led by Ifraan Ali ultimately came out on top. The PPP victory earlier this year will most certainly have implications for oil deals, with the Ali led government expected to take a tougher negotiating position on behalf of Guyana.
Nonetheless, the size and extent of the oil fields found off the coast of Guyana are expected to be larger than those of Norway and Oman, and the potential yield per day could be seven hundred and fifty thousand barrels by 2025. Even with its current 52 per cent stake, the revenue generated from the oil found off of the state's coast will be life-changing for the Guyanese people. In late 2019, according to offshoretechnology.com Exxon has discovered yet more oil through its exploratory drilling, and the company is in the beginning stages of production. Additionally, exploration by other companies in blocks further offshore than Stabroek are beginning to look promising, upping the amount of cash Guyana can expect to receive.

Given its wealth potential & a solid democratic nation, Guyana must have Guyanese who are endowed with the right technical capacity/experience and the highest character to manage its impending prosperity. @@amazonwarrior7126 Now that US Navy has begun patrolling waters with the Guyana Navy, Venezuela isn't gonna do shit. Because if they EVER struck one of the US Navy vessels, only then will go from not doing shit to shitting their communist pants. In short, the US would unleash its military power and crush Venezuela like a bug...and Venezuela knows it. This was a VERY smart move to "invite" the US down to Guyana to do joint patrols offshore.
@Sara Raposo If the politicians within Guyana don't fuck it up, and most importantly: DO NOT BECOME A COMMUNIST COUNTRY. All one has to do is look at your rotting next door neighbor, Venezuela, to see the end (and predictable) result of what happens when a totalitarian/communist regime seizes power. Also, don't set the bar too high, but depending on the build-out and capitalizing on the oil-related markets, it could be very possible for Guyana to pay out periodic STIPENDS to its citizens, which is done in the oil-rich state of Alaska (only Guyana has larger amounts of oil vs. Alaska, so who knows).
I am learning about Guyana (e.g. watching videos, learning about the culture, etc.) because I work for a WTE company that will be building a facility in the Berbice area, converting bagasse to ultra-clean synthetic fuels. I'll be spending significant time in Guyana, and I am eager to partake and take in all the nature and waterways, Guyanese food, etc. P.S. Is Georgetown as dodgy as many seem to say?

Hopefully Guyana will not piss away this blessing as has happened in Trinidad as a result of political corruption.
Put your money into infrastructure from the ground up, and not into “prestige projects”.
Use some of that money to seriously build up your military, and in the meanwhile hire mercenaries.
When you do build it up get yourself an “iron dome” air defense system, and an academy to train troops for jungle warfare. A coast guard with some seriously armed fast boats is also necessary.
You have more than enough land, so keep & preserve Georgetown as it is architecturally, but build a new capital from the ground up elsewhere, making sure that the hiring of your young people and their development is included in every contract.
Make sure your economy stands on more than just one leg. A preserved Georgetown will be a tourist draw. Also develop and manage your timber industry.
Make sure the government does not run or manage any of these companies, but just sets the “rules of the road” so to speak.
Develop a fishing fleet and a fish processing industry and/or develop an aquaponics industry where both fish and crops are grown together in vast tanks or pools.
Power=development, so be sure to plan for your population 50 years hence assuming a 3 percent population growth rate. That means buy modular plants which can easily be added to as demand grows.
Run all your power lines and communication lines underground, and have both digital and paper blueprints for all your infrastructure.
Don’t try to grow too fast, but aim for long term steady moderate growth.
Your best bet would be to assume the American constitution but with a Guyanese flavor, and things like term limits in political office, and banning of the giving of money to political leaders, either directly or thru third parties, corporate, or otherwise, by any business, or human person on behalf of the business.
Good luck Guyana. Go get them.

Guyana’s co-agent Sir Shridath Ramphal (age 91) in his presentation contended that the International Court of Justice unquestionably has jurisdiction to hear the case and adjudicate Guyana’s claims that the validity of the boundary between the two countries has been permanently fixed since 1899.

thanks yuki, for a positive reply, only the Brazilians and the Japenese love Guyana, and the Americans, everybody else hate us, a lot of Guyanese are negative also.

@Learning Spanish Do you see me talking about how bad things are in the country and trust me when the time arises I will meet the need. And it's not like you know me or what I am doing. My country has always been in my heart, and you have no idea how much I want to see my people live better. But taking bad or thinking negative doesn't get us anywhere. We need to be people who find solutions for our problems not wish others will do it for us, we need to take responsibility we are the people not to blame others. Trust me one day my voice will be louder because I refuse to let those who keep winning to only be heard and silence the rest of us because we do not go with your agenda.

Why didn't Venezuela dispute the land with the Arawakans?
As a quiet American with Guyanese family. I am ready to fight for Guyana so we can prosper together. Between internal race relations, Venezuela which was Spanish Guyana and other evil entities, there will be cold or hot war.
If anyone wants to get into contact with me to do good business for Guyanese. Contact me.

@@deloreanwtc1997 That’s still not a good thing, we don’t know what really goes down in Dubai. From what I’ve researched, there’s young girls getting kidnapped from all over and they’re getting send to Dubai. Dubai is not a good example. Guyana when you look at it for its natural ressources is basically the garden of Eden, we have EVERYTHING there. Why would you want to change it? Do you really think these foreigners want to make Guyana "better"? We’re not in wonderland.

Why Oil Rich Venezuela was sanctioned by US like China is today? Any growing economy will be Targeted for Destruction by British and US military and CIA. Myself and many other people left Guyana because is British and CIA regime change carried out after Guyana Independence. Hope current 2 parties cooperate to benefit all people in Guyana and be ware of the US dollar.
