I am an Afrikan male born in Suriname. May I draw the following to your attention. The flag of Suriname that you have displayed in this video is geographically in correct. Since the 1960s Guyana has been occupying Surinamese territory in the South known as “Tigri”. While the current leadership of Guyana is claiming the Esequiba region with crocodile tears from neighboring Venezuela, it has forgotten that it is occupying oil rich Surinamese soil in the South. In one way au do not blame the Guyanese because this border dispute is a phenomenon we have inherited form the British and Dutch colonial rulers, who are now playing holy in the geopolitical world arena of justice. We have become victims of Western men greed and must not become enemies of each other Because a good neighbor is better than a distant european friend at 10 Downing street or the House of Representatives innThe Hague, which has never represented our interests. Yeah, can't share your enthusiasm. Poor Country with high corruption and weak democratic tradition finds oil. Seen this story a few times before, never ends well.
The United States is the world's most corrupt country, with its corrupt agencies like the CIA, FBI, DEA, and the Federal Reserve. It also exerts undue influence over supposedly independent organizations such as the United Nations, World Bank, and International Monetary Fund.
Well, I wish both Guyana and Suriname good fortune, as they have suffered for too long. Colonialism had inflicted much economic suffering on those countries in the past as resources were extracted from those countries, but very little development was done, so when colonialism ended those countries had nothing but deep poverty.
Nonsense. All development has been done by the Dutch. The country, the infrastructure, the mines, even the population is Dutch made. They got something like 30.000 euros per inhabitant in reparations back then and half of the people moved to the Netherlands and all the money was squandered and democracy ruined. It's an entirely self made mess.
I am just wondering. If the first time they could start extracting oil is 2028, how long would they eventually be able to sell that. Solar panels, batteries, EVs, electric scooters, electric bikes and buses are going to make oil obsolete by the beginning of the 2030s. These investments will become stranded assets fairly soon as I see it.
Solar and wind energy won't take over oil anytime soon except maybe in a few places where people have enough money to buy themselves a moral high ground without oil.
I wish you were right, but you are not. Oil and gas will be used in the world for (my estimate) at least 150 years. And yes, I am pessimistic about the chances of survival of mankind.
Even if you are right, oil will be used for decades to come for (plastic) manufacturing. This will probably allow for even larger profit margins than oil that is mostly burned in engines.
You been reading too much EU and USA news articles i see, oil will be around for many years to come, the EU and USA have been trying to fool the global south that they will be pioneers in Green energy só as not to pay and compensate all the damage they caused to the global south when they exploited their lands and are still exploiting until this date.

Exactly and these antics of outsiders giving a flawed reality on what's really going on since the 80's not to mention the Dutch participation in all of this, i'm sure he got his information from the west and their local puppets in Suriname. further more his info has all kinds of holes the first big discovery of oil was before santhoki was even in office, the fact that they put up a quote of him being all for the people means they clearly don't really know him Lol
Suriname unknown? Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard, Patrick Kluivert, Clarence Seedorf, and many more all have their roots in Suriname.
I've never heard of Suriname not the people you mentioned
@@SeeNyuOG Then you probably live in the US. They are famous football (soccer) players who have played for the Dutch national team and for European top clubs. In the years before Suriname's independence in 1975 a lot of Surinamese people (who then still had Dutch nationality) moved to the Netherlands, and a significant number of their children developed into excellent football players.
Don't know who any of those people are.
@@ronald3836Ohhh they play povertyball
@-whackd Indeed, they play football. Sadley handegg is not as popular as football.
Oil can be a game changer but it completely depends upon how the wealth is distributed. That is the biggest challenge.
Also, Suriname needs to be fast, as oil consumption will be going down each year. But while still need it, it would sure be nice to buy it from Suriname, instead of some middle east authocracy.
Being Dutch 2 things will happen, the oil money sales will go directly into the pockets of politicians who then, or their successors will, yet again, beg the Dutch government for financial aid.
The sadly true vision for the future.
Some things never change…
Oil is a curse. 😢
Could also be a blessing
Just look at Finland or Norway, they have oil, and they put it in a rainy day fund.
Yeh I like not being a peasant toiling in the fields.
All the best. May everything go well in Suriname!
3:02 I take it there's a grand total of two videos of Suriname from the middle of last century? As cool as watching that same lime-green bus drive down the same street is, I can't imagine this decision was taken on aesthetic grounds alone.
The western border of Suriname is formed by the left bank of our mighty Corantijn River, which starts at the extreme southwestern tip of our territory, where it is named the Upper Corantijn, and from there all the way north to the Atlantic Ocean. That is: that which you drew as dotted line should be a solid line and continue north. The area which you would otherwise bite out of our territory is 20million hectares of our unique and almost (for many other nations) unimaginable rich piece of Amazonic land. And when gathering information about countries, try to consult more with local citizens from as many different backgrounds as possible. Not just mainstream channels.
Fact checking before presenting all this information would be advisable!!,
Corruption in Guyana is one thing but Surinam is a whole other level. 😂 there would be obvious benefits to the people but a lot of stealing as well.
😂😂😂😂 Guyana is way worse my friend the oil deals the made are one of the dumbest dicisions I have ever heard of Guyana is basically sold 😂😂😂 Exxon mobile just bought Guyana 😂😂
We especially love it when windfall resources appear in countries that seem less inclined to use their windfall for violence, corruption, and global mayhem. Yes it does seem like a good thing.
Suriname was not first sighted by Columbus
You have to remember those are the people who discovered every thing including the sun and moon
Greetings from India to the Surinamese, majority of whose ancestors had gone from India in the 19th century and most of the leaders/administrators of past and present were/are of Indian origin.
Many Indians in Suriname and Guyana practise Bhoj Puri language and customs The children speak better Hindi than Guyanese too,on the whole.Still have night weddings as happened in India.Hindustani as they are still called in Dutch have many close relations in Guyana traditionally They were 'jahajees'.
@@lorettanarain445 I read it many years ago. Thanks for the information. Best wishes.
The situation concerning Bouterse is being addressed, but it might get worse before it gets better. They seem to have the express the right intentions and that's where it starts.
Suriname is the most diverse country of south America we have people from the hole world living in Suriname
please update the suriname map Southwest border TIGRI is ours
Hattie de grens met Guyaan wel goetan, of ooknie'?
Profits for me today over humanity's survival tomorrow. Great plan! Can't wait to see that work wonders for us all.
Another small country is in for a rude awakening when they meet the greed of the world.
I am Afrikan Surinamese. That’s why you deserve my subscription also based on your in-depth analysis of the subject matter. Please take into consideration that in May 2025 we’ll have general presidential elections, which will bring the current opposition party NDP nac ik the drivers seat.

Good luck suriname love from 🇬🇾
i REALLY must say you need to inform yourself about how to pronounce Bouterse. The ou is like in loud and the first e is like in litter and the last e is like "uh".
The map you show is incorrect
The politicscampagne of chan santokhie is genting worst. We people’s of Suriname don’t need this guy because he’s the big corrupt guy. Think of it.
It's not a sign of an intelligent society, capable of genuine concern, willing to sacrifice, able to exist as a part of... without needing to dominate, seeing beyond self.
It's a former colony. That's why it is as it is.
@@Rojillos Drilling for fossil fuels is the decision I was referencing here, not the culture or citizens. I see what you mean though.
I appreciate you just pronouncing the word and not making a big fuss. I also understand intuitively assuming it's supposed to be french style pronunciation, looking at the word. As far as I know, Bouterse is pronounced normally in Dutch, roughly as: Bahoo-ter-seh.
We have become victims of Western men greed and must not become enemies
of each other Because a good neighbor is better than a distant european friend at 10 Downing street or the House of Representatives innThe Hague, which has never represented our interests. Read the Iceman inheritance .
As an Indian, our women must be protected from your kind.
Wherever there is OIL there will be TURMOIL.
Excellent, funny how Christopher Columbus first lated site on Suriname. Like the human beings that were there had no sight. Thank you for that.
All depends on Bouterse. He was sentenced to jail and didn't show up. If he will be lurking in the shadows it might be years later for the country to recover
Never ever have I heard someone butcher the name Bouterse so badly! :D
If they want to ensure that oil resources benefit all of the population, talk to Norway.
I'm a big fan of the channel, your content and presented facts. What I'm also a fan of is the silky smooth voice of this presenter. What I'm NOT a fan of is this silky smooth voice is used to sell plug-in devices that can heat Your home for nearly free. Come on guys You can do better than those crappy voice-over adverts
Yeah, can't share your enthusiasm.
Poor Country with high corruption and weak democratic tradition finds oil. Seen this story a few times before, never ends well.
There’s just no way this works out well for them unfortunately.
The land chart is not good. Can you put the right one.Thank you
Venezuela has its own oil, it should leave Guyana alone!
They will not leave the land alone. The British stole it. Venezuela will take it back. Why do you think the White man is siding with Guyana?
Please show our correct map in your video
Please also take in account environmental issues connected to oil industry!!
Love Suriname 🇸🇷.
Suriname sure is an interesting country.
bouters isnt french... its dutch dude. its pronounced like B - Auw - Ter - Se
Mining died out because the only companies that mined suriname's primary product, bauxite, left the country
At ca 13:50 what does equatorial guinea (you know in Africa) have to do with any of this???
As a Dutchie I can only say: "Suriname, you've earned it"
Fun fact bouterse has been convicted in the country is now on the run
The USA isn't corrupted 😅😂😢
IF only IF .... Corruption isn't involved.
Suriname shall rise again....love Suriname forever.
Just put corruption aside
nice but wrong map tho!
You are using the wrong map of Surinam and a very old film from the early seventies common man we're in the digital period where we can take picture and videos every second.
As a Surinamer, it's only the rich that will enjoy this.
May Suriname share its new found richness with its inhabitants, improve its infrastructure, educate its people and thrive for a long time.
Good luck to all.
Makes you wonder what makes geologic conditions, better in northern south america, than west africa for hydrocarbons? I know there is oil there too, but the magnitude seems less.
Money , power , and greed ; know no bounds .
Finally it will come down to the politicians and how they manage that money
Wouldn’t hurt to check next time with a native dutch speaker to get the pronounciation of names and places right
MAP OF SURINAME IS WRONG!
USE CORRECT INFORMATION!!!
1:21 Fun Fact Guyana and Guiana are pronounced the same one is English Spelling, the Other French Spelling.
No, the French spelling is "Guyane".
