Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali criticised the developed countries for their “hypocrisy” when a BBC presenter questioned Guyana’s commitment to mitigate climate change due to the country’s aspirations for its oil reserves.

As a Canadian with Guyanese parents you are so right. If you see the photos of the dead bison in our history and that they almost made beavers extinct - for hats, Britain has no leg to stand on in lecturing anyone on environmentalism. I mean BP is one of the world’s largest polluters and created the carbon footprint scheme to remove the climate change focus from corporations.

In terms of forest area percentage, UK and US are much much lower than countries such as Guyana and Suriname. During the ukraine war europe pivoted from lecturing african nations about climate change, to encouraging their production to send to Europe. Its embarrasing.
