Susan, YOU are the wonderful human being for putting up with a pair of newly nomadic, slow trundling, awkward vlogging, doofy hikers! But thank you from the bottom of our hearts for not only thinking that, but also for taking the time to reach out and get in touch ❤️❤️❤️ We are beyond happy, and genuinely truly grateful for each and every one of you that has not only taken the time to watch our meandering wanderings and ramblings, but also enjoyed them and left such heartwarming and kind comments. So it’s us that thank you ❤️ The Camino Portuguese lit the blue touch paper of our adventures, and we hope you’ll be with us to share in the rest 🤞🏼 We will be in Canada in the Fall to start our toughest challenge so far and thru hike The Island Walk around PEI! We’re so excited already 🤩😂 What part of Canada are you from? Much love from us Chonky Trundlers 🙏🏻❤️🐌

Thanks for posting! You’ve been inspiring, open and SO naturally informative. I’ve watched a lot of Camino blogs but have been “connected” to yours the most. I especially enjoy the detail of items, places and experiences you’ve encountered. Thanks so much for letting us know where you stayed and what you thought of your shelter. The places to stay are the most daunting thing I find as I consider doing my own trek. Best of all is watching you enjoy YOUR Camino - Life is a journey, NOT a race 😊

We couldn’t agree more. We know that we are so very lucky to have the time we have to do the Camino and it’s a dream come true that took 5 years to happen for us. Thank you for your lovely supportive words. We can’t tell you what a difference it makes. Basically you’re all invited to what has always been our video diary. The videos are not intended to be short clipped, super-edited, and I doubt they will ever be that. They are a collection of our rambling words and trundling adventures. There’s always a forward or skip button for those that are looking for specific things and we are super happy if anything we do can help someone else. So people can pick and mix, or join us for the full outpouring of our muddled thoughts as they choose. The blogs are personal and straight from the heart, the good, the bad, and the goofy, that’s just us.
Accommodation wise we’re using a mix of private hostels, pensions, hotels, and B&Bs. Certainly this trip we gave ourselves a little leeway with our budget, which was to average £30/per night/per person, and so far we’re within that. We tend to have breakfast either provided by the accommodation, or in a bakery. Then have one main meal, usually a big lunch later in the afternoon and then a snack maybe in the evening. It seems to suit us.
Don’t be daunted by the shelter. I know it sounds flippant to say “the Camino provides” but so far it just kinda does. You meet someone friendly, a kindred soul, a cafe when it’s most needed, a place to sit when you’re dead on your feet. We’ve not stayed anywhere we felt even close to being in any threat. Everywhere has been super clean. If we can help at all feel free to message us on Facebook/Messenger and we will gladly share anything ❤️

You guys are adorable and by walking shorter distances you get to see more than what I remember😉 So I am binge watching to remind me of what I passed, thank you for posting ... from Calgary 🇨🇦 Buen Camino wherever the trails take you.
PS: After PEI, come west and travel the Canadian Rocky Mountains🤩

Thank you Aida ❤️ That’s exceptionally sweet of you to say so. Yup, for sure. The slower pace does mean that you get more time to soak it all in. For us we’d waited 5 very impatient years to do the Camino, and it was a very important personal milestone for us both too, so to have the chance to savour it like we did was nothing short of amazing 🤩 We were soooo happy to be doing it, and I think people picked up on that. LOL we do the same thing. We love watching people’s Caminos because a) we get to relive some of the key things we saw, and b) like you say, we get to see some of the things we missed. We’re counting the days to PEI and you can be sure that Canada is big on our radar going forward. Thank you so much for your lovely and heartwarming comments. It means a lot to us both. Incidentally, Keith spent 6 months in Alberta when he was in the army and fell in love with Canada there and then. So he is super excited to be going back to Canada ❤️

@@ChonkyTrundlers I am looking forward to the rest of the Portuguese and then watch the rest of library🥳 I like you both and you doing a Camino as a personal milestone is the way a Camino should be honoured and not just walking to obtain a compostela. You both are true pilgrims🙏💖🙏

We hope they don’t disappoint Aida 😬. It’s so mind blowing to us both that people are watching them and making such lovely comments. I’m afraid we are a doofy pair and what you see is what you get. We chatter away to each other the whole time, and on an average day when we were both working in Oman, albeit in different buildings quite often, I’d say we’d send on average a 100+ or so messages to each other in a day 😂 Because the videos are really just a video diary for us to look back on, we chat away about stuff we never thought others would want to bother listening to. We flout every “rule” of YT videos, and most are at least 25 minutes long due to us rambling on with our random thoughts 🤦🏼‍♂️😂. But it seems there are other people out there as goofy as we are, and we are so very very happy that the videos seem to connect with people ❤️ It’s amazing, but wonderful.
Fabulous to hear from you Aida and we look forward to getting to know you as our and your adventures unfold. Much love from a pair of Chonky Trundlers ❤️🐌

You truly were meant for one another💞💞 The Camino is a test for couples, friends, families but you are true soul mates, you complement one another and enjoy chatting ... how wonderful is that. lol thank you so much for your kind words Deborah ❤️ Keith is working on the next video as we speak so the boat episode will be up this evening all being well. The videos are just us as we are and I’m sure not to everyone’s taste. We ramble on and share all our goofy thoughts as they form 😂 Hopefully some of what we say will help someone. But most of all they are just a record of what happened and how we saw it, good, bad, and everything in between. We’re so glad we’re finding kindred spirits out there. Lovely to hear from you and we look forward to sharing our adventures with you and hopefully seeing yours unfold in Sept!

Thank you MWLC! Yeah, Keith is a big chicken when it comes to boats but even he enjoyed it. We were a bit worried they would be running due to the weather but went surprisingly well. It only takes 5 or so minutes at least, although when we heard our captain exclaim, “Oh! Oh!” I swear Keith made like a limpet 😂 Hopefully the video will be out today. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment ❤️

So I have been low-key investigating doing a Camino myself, and Chonky Trundling would be about my speed 🤣 so you give me hope. You know you have a great brand there, you could be as big as Rick Steves if you wanted to either lead trips the CT way or just arrange them for people. The danger is turning into a business so big that you don’t have any time for adventures yourself! Tina was hilarious checking out the surfing , “You almost want to try it yourself, except certain death.”
i love the music, very good choices and not heavy-handed with it. But the only thing I notice is that sometimes it doesn’t seem to be the same audio level as the narration and I sometimes have to turn it down then turn up the witty commentary because of course I don’t want to miss anything!
Oh also REALLY love the Relive mapping, I had not seen that before.
I follow several UA-cam vlogs from people walking the Appalachian Trail (2,200+ miles, Georgia to Maine) and RELIVE would be great for them; mostly everyone uses FarOut as the app of choice and it has elevations but nothing as cool as what you are using. By the way, they are able to monetize their vlogs with subscribers and likes and ads, some even have brief sponsorships from electrolyte companies. Apparently they make a living from it. 🤷🏻‍♀️
I hope you find some new ponchos.
Oh, can you show some of the stamps in your passport? I think you only showed them once.

Hey NCM (excellent name by the way 😉)! You are way too kind, but we’re so pleased that you’re enjoying the videos. We genuinely are in awe of most people’s abilities, and don’t get me started on our heroes. We managed one 22 KM day yesterday, without our full packs, and it almost finished us off 😂 And yet most people seem to do 20-30 KM days as routine. Maybe one day we will be able to crank up our speed to that level, or maybe not 😂 Until then we will trundle our way along. One thing we do have is time at least. So it might take us two, or three times as long, but hopefully we will get there at least 🤞🏼😂. We hope that we can show that you don’t need to be Bear Grylls to get outside and live your dreams.
Yeah, I’m sorry about the audio levels etc 🤦🏼‍♂️😂 We’d planned to not release the videos until we’d finished and we’re back with our beloved MacBooks and could get them edited properly. However, we decided part way through that we’d just go ahead and get them done. A few friends and family were keen to see them and we never imagined other people would be interested. So we’ve been editing on our phones and doing our best to overlook imperfections that otherwise would drive us crazy 😂 We’re flabbergasted by the response we’ve had but so very very pleased. We know there are professional UA-camrs, and what an amazing time that that’s a thing. It’s opened up a whole new world of opportunities and possibilities to some exceptionally talented people that may never have come to light otherwise. But I think you are absolutely right, I think for many people, what started out as a by product, grew and grew until it became a full time job. And we are thrilled that it has for them, because it’s meant that we have a whole gaggle of people that we love to watch. I think we watch as much YT as we do of Netflix etc. I can’t see the Chonky Trundlers having to worry about that 😂
Relive is excellent. We love it. Except when we stop for a break and forget to restart it 🙄🤦🏼‍♂️ Tina and I spend half our lives checking, double-check, and triple-checking with one another that we’ve restarted the various apps. We are exceptionally lucky to have each other. We accentuate each other’s strengths and level out some of our many weaknesses. We yap to each other the whole time and laugh at our own ridiculous jokes. I’m sure most people would think us insane if they eavesdropped on half of our conversations. And yes, we will happily start including shots of the Credentials. Assuming we ever make it to SdC we will also do a wrap up with a list of places we’ve stayed etc.
Take good care NCM, and keep trundling ❤️

Just started watching your videos, I’ll get caught up with your latest one soon. I’ll be walking the Camino Portugués starting in Tui in about a month. I see by your latest video title that you’re taking the Spiritual Variant route. I’ll be taking that route as well. Looking forward to watching those videos.

It is sooo worth it Paul. We absolutely loved it. It’s more quiet than the main routes, or at least it was for us, and the scenery and experiences (do not miss out on the Pilgrim’s blessing at Armenteira monastery) are wonderful. We didn’t film the mass of course, and regardless of any religious or non-religious leanings, it’s a great thing to see. Wishing you a fab Camino, and don’t hesitate to get in touch if we can help at all 👍🏼

A few questions on accomodation. Do you book only one day ahead? How do you find your accomodation?

    • @ChonkyTrundlers
      @ChonkyTrundlers  10 місяців тому +1

Hi Lin! No, we decided between us to book the entire route this time, and there are pluses and minuses to that. On the up side you know how far you will walk that day, and you know where you will sleep. Depending if you are using hotels, private hostels etc, it’s also cheaper as youve booked well in advance. But there are downsides too. No flexibility, so if you have a problem at some point, suddenly you’ve got a bigger problem as you’ve paid a whole lot of deposits. Plus you’ve lost the spontaneity. For us it was a good choice, but weigh it up carefully. Maybe somewhere in between. For future Caminos we will build in more flexibility but we certainly don’t regret our decision. Booking.Com and AirBnB are your friends 👍🏼
