am i the only one who was amazed by the ingenuity of having tiles with two sides to lay them on borders, commiting to certain values for TWO battlefields via ONE decision ??
Yes, very awesome. Also has the added benefit of allowing randomness, while no tile can be said to be worse than the others. Every tile has 6 force total, so you can’t complain about drawing crap tiles. While in Blitzkrieg it’s quite possible to just draw a few tiles that are just less good than the cool upgrades you are waiting for
Yes. I think Blitzkrieg! and Caesar! are both excellent games, but Caesar seems to be more elegantly designed, and less random through the double sided-chips. Blitzkrieg might be more thematic in its rules, I think Caesar counters with being more thematic in how war actually plays out. I'd say (without having played them) Blitzkrieg is more tactical, while Caesar is more strategic. A copy of the latter is on the way, so I'll know soon enough how it plays.
Compared to many of the old classic SU&SD videos, this was a very minor production. Just one man with no props, no gimmicks, no costumes, and even the scenery changes are irrelevant. And yet the humor has matured and the review cuts deep into the core of the game. Great job as always, Quinns.
@@mahna_mahna Yes! You know all the rules, cause it's Pandemic, but at the same time you're so not playing Pandemic. I never expected it to work so beautifully.

I love games that are elegant in their simplicity, but still draw you in. Both of these look like games me and my friends would enjoy. Thank you for the review.
Do I need any more suggestions for 2-player games? No. Have SU&SD provided me with more great suggestions for 2-player games? Yes. Am I going to be adding these to our collection? Definitely.
What a great review! Thank you for spending so much time discussing the dramatic arc of each game and how they differ. That is usually how I shop for a game, by the somewhat abstract story that it tells in terms of tension and release. Anyway thank you for this fantastic review and all the hard work you put into making these videos so accessible and enjoyable. "Bananas" - hahaha!!😂
“They’re above all that” about the planes. Oh my. It’s bad jokes like that ….. that give me life haha! 💜 I couldn’t agree more about the joy of designers creating big fun in small boxes! I think it’s why I love card games so much. Think out of the two, blitzkrieg will be first to find it’s way into my personal collection once I’ve overplayed games like watergate a bit more 👍

When I really started in the hobby, I had a couple of Paolo Mori games (Dogs of War, Ethnos later) that had some very specific design flavors. He was the first designer that I could kind of tell when a game was designed by him, and so it kind of blew my mind when I later found out he wasn't one of the big names at the time. Just because of that, even though he's probably not my *favourite* designer of all time (he's up top in the list of course), he's my *favourite* designer.
"It's an alternate victory condition! That's the best kind of victory condition." Ha, nice. I almost agree, but surely the best kind of victory condition is a self-imposed victory condition! For instance, not coming in last, or making your friend win without them knowing you were responsible, or making it through a whole game night without yelling or crying!
I still cry myself to sleep some nights over the theming of Ethnos. Everyone I show it to is super skeptical at first, but then they want to play it again once we finish a game. Any theme that was even vaguely appealing to a general audience would have shot this one into the stars.
Thanks for mentioning sustainability. It's been on my mind lately when purchasing games. I know a few Kickstarters are starting to address this and look for sustainability in the production of their games. Worth a discussion/thought in the future.
Definitely intrigued! Also my favourite board game is from Paolo Mori, one of his earliest work: Ur. The simplicity and depth of that game baffles me every time I play it!
Blitzkrieg appears to have a lot in common with one of my favorite Paolo Mori titles, Dogs of War. Having a 2-player version of that around sounds pretty great.
We do own Blitzkrieg plus the Nipon expansion (really like eiher base or expansion board, and you get your own Godzilla). It is never gonna leave the collection. I was not aware of Cesar! and when you described the closing regions mechanic my eyes went wide open... I might have to search for it XD

But maybe I'm being too sensitive!
I really wish the designers (or publishers?) would start to choose more innovative... dare I say.....diverse scenarios? I have dozens of "strategy in the mediterranean" games up to this point and in germany you have a hard time finding a normie to play with if you ask if they'd like to play "blitzkrieg" with you. :P

The combat mechanic is similar to one of the "war scenarios" in Vampire The Masquerade Heritage (legacy game, VtM themed, political, and each "age" you fight across three battle fronts for dominance). This looks very similar in nature, though of course the theming is different. And... its the only battle you get. Where as in VtM:H, you get like 9 or so? more?
Was Quinns drunk when he said "like some cardboard mother that I keep in my cupboard"? Upon hearing him say "bon-oos" I understand that he was not drunk, simply...excited?
It is a shame that SU&SD never reviewed Red Alert: Space Fleet Warfare (also from PSC), since it is very much Memoir 44 But In Space But Also With Some Cool Extra Moves That Make The Game A Lot Better (But It Also Takes Up A Frightening Amount of Table Space). I've been hesitating over Blitzkrieg Exclamation Mark for a while, but I think this may have sold me.
It's a bit rough that so many great games from him kind of got the short end of the stick. Blitzkrieg seems to take some things from dogs of war. Interesting.
