some one I was expecting HIMYM on there as well, but as good as the show was and still is my favorite, I realize that there were so many prominent shows that came out at the same time that targeted a wider audience:(
I think the person that made this video just forgot about it. I was looking at the Nielson ratings for The Office and for Grey's Anatomy, and The Office was right on par, in fact besting it in some years. Moreso, on season they nearly doubled the viewership.
You can see the major network power in the mid 1980s. The raw viewership numbers for the top show in 2019 are not too far ahead of the 10th show in 1986
When three channels was all you had you didn't have much in the way of choice. Cable penetration was still weak, home rental was still growing and video gaming was not really a thing like it eventually became.
To be fair.. Breaking Bad didn't really gain alot of its fame until it was almost over.. I was fortunate enough to watch the pilot when it first aired and was hooked.. didn't have a clue it would develop the way it did over the years but damn what a ride.
I only heard of BB in 2020 cuz 1. It didnt air in my country 2. Lockdown so I started to actually watch it this year, dam did it deserve its title of best tv show.
HIMYM had a shitty ending, probably that's why. It was originally going to end early, but the creators decided to overstretch the story and by the end, nobody had any interest left in knowing who Ted married.

6:20 Breaking Bad is bellow House of Cards? No way. I remember hearing on the news about what a sensation Breaking Bad was in America. For being so popular some shows are barely talked or have any popular culture references in the public about them.
Yeah, Breaking Bad ended in 2013, the same time that House of Cards started to become mainstream. On top of that, there was no plans for Better Call Saul yet, and House of Cards was playing on the average American's fears of Corrupt politicians. So that's why HoC ended up passing BB on the list

All of the comedies that push the limit of what’s allowed have ceased to exist with modern family’s conclusion. Now we have the same cookie cutter shows where you need representation for every single type of person. It’s crazy.
For those asking about the Simpsons.. while they never did huge numbers compared to those, they had a much bigger overall viewership then most in terms of re-runs and being on different stations and global impact in 150 different countries.. I can bet you most people will know Homer and Bart Simpson over 90% of the characters on that list
You are right. I miss King of Queens, Al Bundy, Monk... Can't believe that they are not in this statistic. I think the worldwide ranking is very different from this US Ranking.
South Park is the same way. Both the Simpson and South Park were a big enough deal to get movies, while you couldn't make an NCIS movie that would make money.
This really lets you see the shift in American TV interests. Once the 2000's hit we really seemed to stop enjoying the family shows and switched to darker more adult content.
Sitcoms are dead. There simply are not any good ones anymore. The last one that was watchable was Modern Family. Maybe it's because it's all been done before. The only thing Hollywood seems to care about is a diverse cast while the writing is an afterthought.
not really. If anything this chart shows that popularity doesn't mean the best show currently airing, dumb shitty and mediocre shows like the bang theory, greys anatomy and modern family. You know, shows for rabble old hags and dumb idiots.
It’d be interesting to see a graph like this that includes both international audiences and rewatch numbers. While they apparently weren’t popular at the time, shows like The Office and Peaky Blinders are cultural phenomenons today, and whilst I don’t speak for the whole world I remember here in Australia during the early to mid 2010’s, as far as tv shows were concerned all anyone really talked about was Walking Dead, GoT and Breaking Bad
I do feel like it could’ve been a good ending overall, if they spent 3-4 more seasons on explaining stuff and keeping the pace like they did throughout the whole series. I’m guessing the ending in the books will be similar just a lot less rushed, more polished and will explain more stuff. Where as season 7 and 8 rushed things and made things seem random. Like Daenerys just randomly turning to the mad queen....
Igor Rychert GOT is just like sex. When they hit their peak-- Seemed like the Best thing in the world; both sides were happy. Then in seasons 7&8 they came……so Daenerys was a mad queen and blew The Whole place into flames.
