I had a similar issue with my Hero8+Audio adapter + cable that I had connected between my aircraf audio connector and my headset. I had connected all together, power up the camera and there was no AUX in available in the settings. I had to pull out the 3.5mm audio cable out of the adapter and plug it in again. Immediately AUX input appeard in the settings! Checkt it out if it also works for your!
Btw: I had the audio calbe with only two ring from the beginning

I had the same issue, but I didn’t buy the adapter. What I found out for me was if I turn the GoPro on first, then plug in the mic. It works fine, but if the mic is already plugged in then you turn on the GoPro, it doesn’t work.
See if that works for you without the adapter. First turn on your GoPro, then plug in the microphone.
Thank you so much for the quick simple explanation. I just got my GoPro mic adaptor in the mail, same issues as you explained. After watching your video I dug up my shotgun mic with the TRS connector (two stripes) and it worked perfectly. Just if anyone’s wondering the three stripe plugs are called TRRS and I believe they are mostly used for smartphone headphones.
I have just ordered the same adaptor like you did from eBay. 2x pieces for $10 AUD.

That isn't the only audio issue. You have to connect the microphone to the block after the GoPro is turned on. If it is connected before you turn it on it will not record.

I had this issue too. I know about this stuff too, have faced this with external audio on laptops for zoom meetings and already use the 3.5 to 2.5 adapter at home, but just didn't occur to me to use it on go pro. Thank you!!

I just wanted to say that my panda mic is working and when I use my gopro app on my phone, I see video. But when I attempt to pull my micro sd and will be doing so to upload videos, I can hear but not see video, just trying to figure it out right now. I do have the gopro mic adapter but I ordered the other adapter you recomended. I hope that works.

And now after 2 years of motovlogging, how's it been working for you. I've been using both my H8's with the same setup & it is absolutely hit and miss as to whether I get audio with the external mic or not (and I have tried multiple TRS mics). My buddy with the H9 says he has never encountered this problem, so I'm thinking it's an H8/mic-adapter compatibility issue that GP was never able to fix, so they just put out a new camera (as usual - lol).
I haven't been as consistent as I should with moto vlogging on my other channel lol
When I take the camera to the track though
The only issue I run into is over heating...
And it sucks when you do a day of warming up and learning the track and recording all day no issues
then end of day you know the track feel confident and making the best laps and you only get the first 5 minutes of a 20 minute session....
And you find out the camera turned off
I'm honestly thinking about trying the DSI osmo 3 or 4 next but still loving the camera for the most part so we'll see

So many bugs. crazy! and now people will buy the 11.... no way! not me.
first thing when i get back home: selling it! going to get the Osmo 3, which have, unbelievable, ability to connect to passive 3.5 audio jack!

I just saw the DJI osmo 3 and have been curious I need to do some price checking but GoPro is such a great name and brand but in the past 5 years things have changed and they're falling off unfortunately on tye software and possibly hardware side

TTRS or 4 pole 1/8" tips are for IPHONES!! Its NOT a GOPRO issue. The Purple Panda does come with an TTRS to TRS adapter.

What’s up buddy. I have the GoPro hero 7 black with the purple panda mic and GoPro adapter. I bought them all last year in September of 2021 and made numerous UA-cam videos on my channel with no issues. I haven’t changed my set up at all and all of a sudden I stopped getting audio. Yes, I do have the adapter piece from panda that changes it to only 2 black rings instead of 3. Still no luck
I just had a comment a week or 2 ago with similar issue turned out his GoPro audio adapter was no good swapped out and his worked
another had to put his usb c connector upside down to get it to work then it stopped again. He bought a new mic then it started working again

I bought an adapter for my Hero 2018, and nothing works. Two, or three ring 🤷♂️
I hav the exact same setup as u. I vlogged fine for about 2 yrs. this week it just stopped working. I get white noise now. I swapped my purple panda n still no audio. The camera it self is picking up the audio even when headphones are connected to the adapter

I'm not sure
and here's why
From what I know the mic adapter on the GoPro uses a headphone jack not a USB plug jack like the yeti uses
So I don't know of a way to connect a USB to the GoPro to use as mic
But an alternative
There are a lot of mics like the lavaliere mic and others that are headphone jack headphones that can get the job done
Check the description I have all my gear and a cheaper mic listed
Is it the quality you need IDK but you can always return the mic's if not. I needed it for clarity and blocking wind noise so different use case than you

I might start going down the rabbit whole to see if there is an alternative adapter
@@drjones694 Digging down the rabbit hole too and I can confirm that the Apple USB-C to 3.5mm jack does not work. But then I can't figure out if this adapter is TRRS or TRS.
If it is TRS then there is a software compatibility problem, but if it is TRRS then it could also be the type of connection... :/

You might want to go through settings and look for microphone settings and make sure it's enabled
Another step
take your sd card / memory card out of the camera so you don't wipe it
Then go to settings and do a factory reset then try again and see if the sound works

The problem is that the adapter is usb c but the go pro only takes it one way in which is just shit. So anyone who is having this problem, plug it the other way and it will work.

I didn't know the USB c upside down could be an issue which is crazy because USB c is supposed to go either way but you never know. Glad you found a fix. If you have anymore issues with it here's a forward I sent another user

@@drjones694 i am gonna try tomorrow with a different mic, maybe i have a bad mic but if it still doesnt work, then i guess its a problem with the adapter. In any case, i will update here what the problem is so people can see.
I bought a new mic and now the adapter is working both ways. So the problem was with the mic and not the adapter. So before buying a new adapter try some different mics.
