Word of warning to folks: If someone comes to your home trying to sell you security systems, just say you have one already even if you don't have one. Don't tell them you live alone either. Security salesman door-to-door is a great way for criminals to case a home and figure out which are easier targets. I'm amazed the person in story 3 was smart enough to recognize a later trap, yet not realize what likely made them be targeted.
They asked me what was the security system brand name? I said, Smith and Wesson, you want to see? Click.
@@racerx009they're supposed to obtain a soliciting permit from the towns pd they're doing door to door bs in CT
Guy had to have the worst survival instincts ever 😂 first giving all that info to the pushy salesman, then yelling through the door at 11pm that he’s not interested (no salesman is knocking on you door at this time). Also just the fact he doesn’t have a gun. Then he went and blatantly looked through the back window with someone obviously trying to break in, if those dudes had weapons it would’ve been a very bad day if not the last day for this dude
I had a guy come to the door saying he worked for our security company and he needed to replace our main keypad inside. I told him no he'd have to have the office call to set a time because I was on my way out(I wasn't). He had a attitude but left and I never got a call🤨
When I was married my husband didn't allow ANY repairmen or even our landlord in the house if I was alone. I really appreciate it now..
Or they actually work for a door to door company that sells security systems
I love how the person in the second story had common sense and actually made smart choices and avoided a trap.
It was also quite educational, listing what to look for when you get pulled over.
Especially when his name tag says: Doofy.
The one comment in this entire comment section that doesn’t look bottted.
And the 3rd guy was smart too atleast
The reason why the last 2 stories didn’t get bad is because they both were not intimidated by cops. You should always know your rights and no matter how uncomfortable it may feel there is no harm in calling the actual police to verify information. BTW, when it comes to driving and you are pulled over you legally don’t have to roll your windows all the way down, just enough to hear each other and pass your paperwork and that only requires a few inches at most. That said; legally if you are pulled over by actual cops and they ask you to get out of the car you have to, that’s why there’s no harm in calling 911, or the police agency the cop is with. Many cops have been locked up for being serial rapists/murders and committed their crimes on duty/with their patrol car so even if it’s a real cop calling their station and asking/telling them who pulled you over can protect you as well.
Regarding something like story 3, a friend I'd gone to high school with and later became a police officer told me the common saying for burglaries he'd learned: "If they come during the day, they come for your stuff. If they come during the night, they come for you."
@alexanderjefferies7740, yes, I heard something like that before. A couple police officers came to my place of work years ago to give us safety tips if we are ever in a situation like that. One of the things they mentioned was that burglars usually work during the day when we are most likely at work and no one is home, while at night, someone trying to break in is more likely after you!! Now that I think of it, all of Ted Bundy’s break ins occurred late at night, when they were sleeping.
This is EXACTLY what my husband said.
_we were robbed at night tho_
About locked doors. When I was selling Oxycodon and other pharmaceuticals back awhile (I really changed my ways) people knew I always got a stash of pills and lean and got amount of cash and watches etc. I felt pretty untouchable in my apartment and my beretta. This was a few years ago in Germany. One night I heard a loud commotion and a sound of clearly more then 7-8 people aggressively made their way into the apartment floor and were trying to kick the door down at 3AM on a Sunday night eventhough I was screaming at them , let them hear my gun clicking and shouting that I’m going to shoot once the door was kicked down. Most frightened I ever was. For some reason an older lady had the balls to come out of her apartment who really liked me and shouted at them that the police is coming and that they should get the hell out of the house complex. They were kicking and beating the locked door for 15 minutes at this point and 1-2 minutes later it would have been kicked down at the latest and my life would have been over with.
@sarasmith9450 he probably cased the neighborhood as well, to see who had dogs and who didn't.
Little tip: if someone knocks on your door claiming to be police, ALWAYS ask for their name, badge #, and what department they're with. If they give you a department name, search engine the department and ask the dispatch if they had sent an officer to your home for whatever the supposed officer said they were there for.
thank you buddy!
I would just ignore 😂
Can an officer deny to speak their badge number?
@JijiTheKat No. An officer is a public servant, and while in the course of their official duties, if requested, they are required to identify themselves by their name/badge #.
@@The_Ghost923 interesting. When asked for their manager, would their manager stop by even if it is not an emergency?
Story 3: HUGE mistake admitting you don’t have a security system
I was just thinking that! Always tell them that you have one and it's working perfectly.
And that he lives alone. I guess the home 🏠 owner felt comfortable, because it was still daylight. When it was dark at 11 pm he knew something was wrong. Smart guy with no gun. 😂
My mom did that before. We had a garage sale and she was telling people that's she's going on vacation and her daughter (me at 19) was going to be home all alone with no security system or man in the house and she was soooo worried about my safety 🤦♀️
Some people don't think before they do or say things
As well as giving the guy your phone number

@@luisjaime2567 i said useful. not useless. so im not sure why you decided to write that
The guy in the last story was very naive. If a stranger shows up at your door out of nowhere selling security systems, you lie and say you already have one. That’s a trick question to see if your an easy target. And you never confirm that you live alone or are alone at that moment.
You should just assume right away that it’s a trap cause especially if your in a secluded area
To be honest, not everyone see this as a common thing.
well… now he knows that for next time. that’s why these stories are more than entertainment, but they’re guides as well. if the sales guy didn’t have a certain “look” or demeanor to the storyteller, he clearly didn’t feel like he had a reason to lie about having a security system. I’d say he’s more naive for giving the guy his number (because say this salesperson was legit- now your phone is getting blown up with deals and discounts everyday). him deciding to not answer the door past 10p, asking the “cop” to make his badge visible, not falling for the phony 911 call, and calling the actual 911 were all GREAT choices to make. give the guy some credit.
I may not be armed witha gun but I do own a metal base ball bat I always make sure the doors are locked and windows shut.
That dude is an imbecile. He even had the nerve to say afterwards, "for some reason my house was the only one on this street targeted for this."
I know 20 years-old is young, but honestly, I'm baffled sometimes at how people are willing to give out their information to strangers. "Do you have a security system? Yes" "Which one? I rather not say" "Do you live alone? No." "Who lives with you? Several people".
i would’ve said I live with my 2 brothers , and have dogs. (I don’t have brothers) ;)
Which one: Smith and Wesson
Who do you live with: a couple of serial killers
I'd just tell them I have ring if u say I'd rather not say they'd think you're lieing😂😂
@@Jojo_Flake😂😂😂I do it's a pain
@@racerx009 nice!
It's refreshing to see storytellers who actually have common sense in Mr. Nightmare stories.
Also, the third story sounds like it could potentially be an elaborate scheme to get the guy to buy a security system.

@@Miller-jh2bg bro what
The last story - I've learned (thankfully not the hard way, just through advice from others) that you NEVER tell strangers that you live alone. And the security system question, even if I didn't have one (when I get my own place, I'm definitely getting one), I'd say "I've got one and I'm not interested in a different one". Never tell people you're unprotected.
Also tell them that, if they ask to go inside and see your security system or proof you don’t live alone or something, tell them you have an aggressive dog. Nothing scares away creeps like a dog that’ll bite their hand off.
I was automatically suspicious when the cop car had red and WHITE flashing lights in the second story 😮
I was looking for this comment! I thought to myself, “please tell me I’m not the only one who caught that”. lol

“Not going outside again..”
Goes outside to turn the bubble off 😂😂😂
Ive never understood the whole "threaten them with a gun even though you dont have one" thing. The way I grew up is that you never let someone know you have a gun because that allows them to take a step back and plan accordingly. Bringing more people, and more guns. Also in my experience (this is purely anecdotal) the people who openly talk about what they have on them are usually bluffing.
Edit: I just finished the story i was referring to and yeah, the criminals definitely called their bluff about the gun 😂
really good point you made there!
Don’t tell anyone you have a gun!
also do you think threatening to call the police would work?
So much this! I mean also, guns are so rarely an actual deterrent. If someone is planning a break in or is intending to harm someone at home, they usually aren't doing it on the fly. They're prepared and expectant of if someone is legitimately defenseless. So all the stories that are like "I had a gun so it was fine" never make sense to me and honestly feel like really lazy writing or if its an internet story screams of like a 13 year old boy making up a story to seem like a badass.
@@Jojo_Flake of course, calling the police is the go-to move. Although personally I still wouldn't say anything (just so he doesn't have a headstart and gives the cops a chance to catch the guy off guard) I can definitely see why a lone woman would use that as a deterrent.
@@PatchrickPlayer1 in one 1982 convenience sample of 1,823 state
prisoners, 35 percent of respondents “strongly agreed” and 39 percent “agreed” that “one reason
burglars avoid houses when people are at home is that they fear being shot.” Of the respondents
who used a gun to commit the crime for which they were incarcerated, 50 percent reported that
the possibility of encountering an armed victim was “very important” in their decision to employ
a gun, while another 12 percent reported that this motivation was “somewhat important” (Wright
and Rossi 1994).
@@PatchrickPlayer1 guns are a huge deterrent and burglars almost always avoid houses they know have guns. its basic common sense. burglars are human, if you where planning to rob someone, you would avoid the guy with a gun and target someone without one. even if you have one and they have one the chances of getting shot are high, verses someone without a gun. are you dumb or just ignorant. ofc a weapon is a deterrent, this is real life not a fucking movie
