Word of warning to folks: If someone comes to your home trying to sell you security systems, just say you have one already even if you don't have one. Don't tell them you live alone either. Security salesman door-to-door is a great way for criminals to case a home and figure out which are easier targets. I'm amazed the person in story 3 was smart enough to recognize a later trap, yet not realize what likely made them be targeted.
Guy had to have the worst survival instincts ever 😂 first giving all that info to the pushy salesman, then yelling through the door at 11pm that he’s not interested (no salesman is knocking on you door at this time). Also just the fact he doesn’t have a gun. Then he went and blatantly looked through the back window with someone obviously trying to break in, if those dudes had weapons it would’ve been a very bad day if not the last day for this dude
I had a guy come to the door saying he worked for our security company and he needed to replace our main keypad inside. I told him no he'd have to have the office call to set a time because I was on my way out(I wasn't). He had a attitude but left and I never got a call🤨 When I was married my husband didn't allow ANY repairmen or even our landlord in the house if I was alone. I really appreciate it now..
Regarding something like story 3, a friend I'd gone to high school with and later became a police officer told me the common saying for burglaries he'd learned: "If they come during the day, they come for your stuff. If they come during the night, they come for you."
@alexanderjefferies7740, yes, I heard something like that before. A couple police officers came to my place of work years ago to give us safety tips if we are ever in a situation like that. One of the things they mentioned was that burglars usually work during the day when we are most likely at work and no one is home, while at night, someone trying to break in is more likely after you!! Now that I think of it, all of Ted Bundy’s break ins occurred late at night, when they were sleeping.
About locked doors. When I was selling Oxycodon and other pharmaceuticals back awhile (I really changed my ways) people knew I always got a stash of pills and lean and got amount of cash and watches etc. I felt pretty untouchable in my apartment and my beretta. This was a few years ago in Germany. One night I heard a loud commotion and a sound of clearly more then 7-8 people aggressively made their way into the apartment floor and were trying to kick the door down at 3AM on a Sunday night eventhough I was screaming at them , let them hear my gun clicking and shouting that I’m going to shoot once the door was kicked down. Most frightened I ever was. For some reason an older lady had the balls to come out of her apartment who really liked me and shouted at them that the police is coming and that they should get the hell out of the house complex. They were kicking and beating the locked door for 15 minutes at this point and 1-2 minutes later it would have been kicked down at the latest and my life would have been over with.
The reason why the last 2 stories didn’t get bad is because they both were not intimidated by cops. You should always know your rights and no matter how uncomfortable it may feel there is no harm in calling the actual police to verify information. BTW, when it comes to driving and you are pulled over you legally don’t have to roll your windows all the way down, just enough to hear each other and pass your paperwork and that only requires a few inches at most. That said; legally if you are pulled over by actual cops and they ask you to get out of the car you have to, that’s why there’s no harm in calling 911, or the police agency the cop is with. Many cops have been locked up for being serial rapists/murders and committed their crimes on duty/with their patrol car so even if it’s a real cop calling their station and asking/telling them who pulled you over can protect you as well.
Little tip: if someone knocks on your door claiming to be police, ALWAYS ask for their name, badge #, and what department they're with. If they give you a department name, search engine the department and ask the dispatch if they had sent an officer to your home for whatever the supposed officer said they were there for.
@JijiTheKat No. An officer is a public servant, and while in the course of their official duties, if requested, they are required to identify themselves by their name/badge #.

@ainiel7602 yea Ballen is just simply tells things that happened but Nighmatre actually narrates the stories people send him they have totally different contents
Important tip for everyone out there: despite the situation in story 3, NEVER ignore a call from 9-1-1. If emergency services gets a report of something dangerous happening at another address, they WILL try to contact the person at risk and attempt to assist them. You won’t see it often; kind of a rare occurrence, but don’t be scared off if it does.
Ive never understood the whole "threaten them with a gun even though you dont have one" thing. The way I grew up is that you never let someone know you have a gun because that allows them to take a step back and plan accordingly. Bringing more people, and more guns. Also in my experience (this is purely anecdotal) the people who openly talk about what they have on them are usually bluffing. Edit: I just finished the story i was referring to and yeah, the criminals definitely called their bluff about the gun 😂
So much this! I mean also, guns are so rarely an actual deterrent. If someone is planning a break in or is intending to harm someone at home, they usually aren't doing it on the fly. They're prepared and expectant of if someone is legitimately defenseless. So all the stories that are like "I had a gun so it was fine" never make sense to me and honestly feel like really lazy writing or if its an internet story screams of like a 13 year old boy making up a story to seem like a badass.
@@Jojo_Flake of course, calling the police is the go-to move. Although personally I still wouldn't say anything (just so he doesn't have a headstart and gives the cops a chance to catch the guy off guard) I can definitely see why a lone woman would use that as a deterrent.
@@PatchrickPlayer1 in one 1982 convenience sample of 1,823 state prisoners, 35 percent of respondents “strongly agreed” and 39 percent “agreed” that “one reason burglars avoid houses when people are at home is that they fear being shot.” Of the respondents who used a gun to commit the crime for which they were incarcerated, 50 percent reported that the possibility of encountering an armed victim was “very important” in their decision to employ a gun, while another 12 percent reported that this motivation was “somewhat important” (Wright and Rossi 1994).
@@PatchrickPlayer1 guns are a huge deterrent and burglars almost always avoid houses they know have guns. its basic common sense. burglars are human, if you where planning to rob someone, you would avoid the guy with a gun and target someone without one. even if you have one and they have one the chances of getting shot are high, verses someone without a gun. are you dumb or just ignorant. ofc a weapon is a deterrent, this is real life not a fucking movie
3 things I learned from watching Mr.Nightmare for 8+years. 1- Always triple check locks before going to bed. 2- Always carry something for protection like knife or taser at minimum. 3- always travel in pairs and never leave the group cause of a cutie you chatted with.
If anyone ever asks you if you are alone say no!!! It’s ridiculous that people say yes to these things. And if anyone tries to sell you anything or ask you anything personal do not answer anything. You can’t trust a lot of people.
I don't know how, most likely because i love horror, but listening to these stories makes me fall asleep sometimes, especially now at Christmas time, since it's mostly dark outside near where I live
A lot of predators try to pretend or be authority figures. They might be parents or even step-parents. They could even pretend to be police officers, relatives or friends of your parents. Some don’t even try to hide it. People tried to kidnap me twice in my childhood. One pretended to know me but i didn’t know her and got my brother. And one tried to say she had puppies or whatever.
Ngl I’ve watched this video over like 4-5 times. This one of the best videos he’s dropped in a while. Eery sound effects, great stories, and the overall feel of the video. Mr nightmare tells the best scary stories and it’s not even close
Another way someone tries to case your house or otherwise snoop around: Pretending to work for the gas-company. When I was living in my childhood home again for a time, I was taking out the trash one afternoon. I saw a man park an unmarked-car across my street. We had no sidewalks then & our street was not well-traveled then either. I watched as a man, wearing a regular shirt & pants walk around my neighbor's house....seemingly peering in the bushes. I kept my distance, but called out "Can I help you?" The man turned & said calmly "I'm investigating a gas-leak. Can you tell me who lives there?" I replied " Can I see your ID? " I then noticed he had some sort of badge pinned to his shirt, but it looked strangely sparse.....I'd seen gas-company IDs before. But it was the man's reaction that made me suspicious: He held it up (still attached to his shirt) & snapped angrily "Here it is! Is that good enough for you???" I was angry & a bit uneasy. He must have seen I was not going to walk off while he was there.....he got in his unmarked car & drove off. My mom & I called the gas-company & the weird thing was they said "We have no report of a gas-leak there, but sometimes we subcontract out to others. But he absolutely shouldn't have been rude if he worked for us." HUH?!!! Long story short, we never found out if the guy was legit but luckily none of us ever saw him again.
Imagine being out in public and overhearing someone talking and it’s Mr. nightmare I think I would have a heart attack. I only thought about that when he started talking about going out with friends in the ad in the beginning but it got me thinking.

Never tell anyone you live alone. If at all possible never travel at night. If you feel uncomfortable when someone knocks on your door call 911 immediately. Do not tell the person outside your house that you're calling the police. Just be as quiet as possible, make the call and stay out of view.

story 2, there was no siren, meaning that this man is not a cop. I feel bad that someone had to go though this. This also scares me, but also why i look for the clues, plus know the law and you would be fine. Happy they didn't give out anything.
Thank you Mr.Nightmare for another amazing video. Can't wait to listin to me. This really destresses me because the second story but still.
Can you tell me when its okay to not hand over your ID? Ive been trying to look up certain rights but theres conflicting info online...or maybe tell me where to look? I think everyone should try to be prepared for whatever they can but idk how to find that out.
Although they may have not been a cop, they don’t have the alarms on unless it’s an emergency.
Police don't always use a siren. I was pulled over once, the cop only had his flashing-lights. Granted, it was for the (rather silly) reason that the license-plate cover was dirty (he couldn't read my entire plate, apparently). But no siren,.
In my city cops don’t use sirens after 11 pm. Only lights
You know it’s a good day if mr.nightmare uploads
"I don't actually have a gun." Maybe it's time to get one? Especially if you live in an isolated area, that wouldn't be a bad idea. At least they were smart enough to call the actually 911 dispatch.

@@Mr.WesteryI have never watched one of your video’s before.
The guy in that first story...oh my god. Why would you go outside?
You have no idea how many people there were nor if any were waiting by the door with their own weapons. You have cover, concealment, and home field advantage indoors.
yeah that sounds sketchy. I would’ve stayed in the house with a gun or something and call police.
cuz I’m kind of a pussy and yeah there could be more people outside
@@Jojo_Flakethats not being a pussy, thats being smart! Idk many ppl that would've just opened the door or gone outside.

Hate to say but after Mr.Ballen blew up the clickbait titles and overly dramatic thumbnails became cringey. But a great storyteller he is. Mr.Nightmare however doesn't use any of these cheap tactics. Just solid stories and to the point for years.
@@ainiel7602I completely agree. Bells canyon will always have a special place in my heart... it's just his new stuff is extremely commercial which like... good for him but this is kinda why I like Mr nightmare more still.
I still listen to Mr ballen, but not with the same glee I did 3or2 yrs ago
I don't like how ballen stretches the stories to 28 minutes and crams it with ads
Mr. Ballen just draws sh*t out forever, when the actual story can be summed up as, "A bunch of people camped in a WW1 minefield and lit a campfire on top of an unexploded mine."

Whispered diaries and shiny gold tales are great channels too!
Mr. Nightmare never fails I been listening to him since 2017. I’m glad I find him on UA-cam he tells a good bedtime story.
Edit: I just finished the story i was referring to and yeah, the criminals definitely called their bluff about the gun 😂
really good point you made there!
Don’t tell anyone you have a gun!
also do you think threatening to call the police would work?
@@PatchrickPlayer1 in one 1982 convenience sample of 1,823 state
prisoners, 35 percent of respondents “strongly agreed” and 39 percent “agreed” that “one reason
burglars avoid houses when people are at home is that they fear being shot.” Of the respondents
who used a gun to commit the crime for which they were incarcerated, 50 percent reported that
the possibility of encountering an armed victim was “very important” in their decision to employ
a gun, while another 12 percent reported that this motivation was “somewhat important” (Wright

If anyone ever asks you if you are alone say no!!! It’s ridiculous that people say yes to these things. And if anyone tries to sell you anything or ask you anything personal do not answer anything. You can’t trust a lot of people.
Love Mr Nightmare. He's always a treat.
I don't know how, most likely because i love horror, but listening to these stories makes me fall asleep sometimes, especially now at Christmas time, since it's mostly dark outside near where I live

@@amenenema474 literally lmfao
A lot of predators try to pretend or be authority figures. They might be parents or even step-parents. They could even pretend to be police officers, relatives or friends of your parents. Some don’t even try to hide it. People tried to kidnap me twice in my childhood. One pretended to know me but i didn’t know her and got my brother. And one tried to say she had puppies or whatever.

Mr. Nightmare never disappoints once again 🎉

Never tell anyone you live alone. If at all possible never travel at night. If you feel uncomfortable when someone knocks on your door call 911 immediately. Do not tell the person outside your house that you're calling the police. Just be as quiet as possible, make the call and stay out of view.
mr. nighmare your videos are always entertaining me, they help me pass the time, they always catch my eye, thanks 😀
People, if some random person with a clipboard comes to your house and knocks on the door, you don't have to answer it. You don't have to tell them ANYTHING. You don't even have to tell them "I don't want to buy your [whatever they're selling]." You have no obligation to do anything, much less tell them your name or whether you have a security system. Good grief!
If you EVER have any doubts someone is an actual police officer. Call 911. Put your flashers on, and drive to the closest police dept
