Fish are not vegetables! They do feel pain and it has been proven. www.washingtonpost.com/news/food/wp/2018/05/24/scientists-say-fish-feel-pain-it-could-lead-to-major-changes-in-the-fishing-industry/?noredirect=on&.f594f02e5f59

Yes they do so with a substance that would kill the fish in too high doses and only temporarily works. The only reason they do this is to make it so the fish cant move and "flinch" away during the procedure out of pain and fear.. not to numb its pain. After the effects wear off the fish feels EVERYTHING. They literally feel their eyelids being cut off... if someone doesnt see anything wrong with that then that person is quite sick in the head.

Well unlike you I dont hate you. I will never understand people tho that feel the need to justify their actions of putting animals in pain for no justifiable reason. If the animal has a medical condition its of course justified but for something as disgusting as a beauty standard? Its like you probably (hopefully) understand deep down that needlessly putting a being that has a brain and a nervous system in pain is really wrong.. but you feel the need to comment here because you want to defend your wrong doings at all costs. People sadly will always find their excuses it seems

  • @youngz13o

Soooooo.... I can tell most of the people commenting "poor fish" dont know much about fish care and are thinking of the arowana like a pet dog. Just want to share my opinion and ask those people to be a little more open minded.
    1. Drop eye - imagine your eye had a growth behind it that was making your eye bulge out.
    2. Splitting the fin cartilage - does it hurt when you cut your finger nails?
    3. Removing malformed scaling - probably the most "unnecessary" procedure but.. even the doctor cant say for sure fish feel pain the same way we do.
Also keep into mind the asian culture that reveres these animals for their beauty. They also spend thousands on these fish and care for these animals on a daily basis.
    Thanks for reading!

I'm saying poor fish cause they did the drop eye surgery wrong and didn't use enough atheistic.
When properly athestized they should not move or flop around.the fish is still awake when they started cutting meaning fish felt them cutting it's which is painful.plus the fish can really hurt themselves freaking out like that and snap their own back or damage their swim bladder.plus the stress can make them go on a feeding strike till they starve to death.

@@user-uk2gd2zu9b Plants don't have feelings, don't be ignorant. Lot's of articles and media take these legitimate studies, then twist them to say things like "plants have feelings". You may read the actual scientific publishings yourself if you like, but don't spread lies.

    • @theskeletonboi
      @theskeletonboi 5 років тому +7

@@user-uk2gd2zu9b You absolute idiot, I read the actual scientific published pieces myself back when they came out. Learn basic biology.
First off, plants don't even have a nervous system to feel pain. Second, their sensory neurons are not pain receptors, so even if they somehow evolved a nervous system, they can't experience pain. For comparison, things that can feel pain, have "nociceptors", they are programmed to experience pain. Plants have a thing called "mechanoreceptors", much like the name implies, it acts like a mechanical gate to trigger various events. Complex combinations and variations of these neurons can perform the actions you speak of, and all without the need for a nervous system. Third, response to stimuli does not require a brain. If response to stimuli means pain to you, rigging a transistor to a light emitting diode means circuits can feel pain. The electrical impulse reactions that take place in plants is caused by a very primitive method called depolarization. It's an elementary biological mechanism.
The research was performed by Professor Daniel Chamovitz. You may check out all of his publications. Most of these dummy articles you read probably didn't even directly source Professor Chamovitz, and thus the game of telephone and misinformation begins.
In-fact, to quote Daniel: "No. I refuse to use the word cognition. We have no understanding of what cognition is. None whatsoever. Plants are not cognizant. When we cut a leaf, we assume that the plant is suffering. But that's our own anthropomorphism about what's going on."
The very man who published his findings on plants ability to feel, said it himself. Now stop being ignorant you fool.

Those who say that they are hurting the fish and that this is animal abuse, it is not. The procedure with removing the fat from behind the eye is actually quite serious. The condition is called drop eye and is quite common, especially with bettas. I believe that it is caused when the fish keeps having to look down for food. Go to King pf DIY if you don’t believe me.

Maybe it should have done in small parts. Not all at once. Is like someone removes a deformed teeth on a person. It hurts but it will feel better after a while. Having a teeth pulled, a deformed finger cut, and nose surgery all at the same time can be to much. Same for a fish. If one is fixing a deformed scale why stress the fish and also mess with it's eyes. If the eyes need fixing then do the eyes and leave the deformed scales for later. To much at once can actually cause the fish to over stress and be more prone to infections and diseases in my opinion. Ofcourse it is also a bit cruel to slice it's fins. He did put some medication so maybe that helped the fish feel less pain.

I don't understand why people think surgery on pets are normal but abnormal on fish?? It is helping that fish, if the eyes keep dropping, it would be unable to look up and eat things, also the perfect scale and fins are better for their health due to making it harder for the parasites to attach on. By the way, the fish can feel more confident by these changes. And and and, the fish was paralyzed during the surgery! And it is not hurting its inner organs, it was only removing the extra fat behind the eyes !!!

The eye was necessary as too much fat might damage the fish's eyes. The others were just for cosmetic and looks which is unnecessary.
