State blocks aren't needed, you can use the checkpoint's spawn or respawn ID since that will always happen before an event trigger. The way you detect that is up to you, but either toggle, pickups + counter or timers + events will do the job.

Thanks, there's just one problem, the effect only triggers after dying 2 times in practice mode. Is there any way to make the effect trigger when you die the first time in practice mode?
What if you're using triggers to make a death effect and you think people are going to be frustrated because of the death effect if they're playing the level on practice mode?

You could disable the death effect through this, or you could put a toggle at the start of the level (like a custom orb or key)
What if you don’t die in practice mode, wouldn’t that mean that no triggers would activate at all?
yes, but then you basically completed the level without practice mode (functionality)
