Ouch! Most of us have done that, but I reckon I've got more scars and injuries from handling redfin over the years. That was a ripper casting session, that section of the Ovens is in really good nick.
Thanks Ross. The whole river is fishing exceptionally well at the moment. The best that I can remember. I'm keen to get back out, but a little bit scared. LOL
It always the goldens that get me. But, I did put a treble into each of my thumbs,. One tine for each thumb, and one for the redfin that was still on the lure ;) That was fun.
I was fly fishing with a good friend of mine when I made a very rookie mistake and walked behind him while he was casting and didn't announce myself. Well, his size 18 nymph buried itself in my cheek, way past the barb. The hook was so small that we had to cut all the material off the fly so that we expose enough of the shank to poke the barb and tip back through and finish threading it out. After about 30 minutes of struggling with it we were finally able to get it out and were able to keep fishing. Great video Robbie, hope you heal up fast and get back out there!
Ouch! After a month of casually fishing, I caught my first cod this week! 60cm! It was a keeper. I was lucky enough to catch another the next day too! But made sure to release :)
I always thought a bad days fishing beats a good days work but I may be wrong haha. At least the fishing was good though. Ouch that must’ve hurt, 5 needles! I hope you heal up soon!
Trust me Zaki, the worst day I have had fishing, I ended up with a treble in each thumb. The worst day I have had working I got pulled out of my taxi and strangled. Fishing beats work any day. You would not take a day off fishing to go to work, but show me the person that would not take a day off work to go fishing .
I had this same thing happen when I was younger, it was with a treble hook from a jitterbug lure. The hook lodged in my thumb I remember the doctor had too pull it out in reverse!!!
Hi Robbie. Love your videos. I recently went on a trip to Cape York and got a triple barb hook caught in my thumb while fishing at Cook Town. I thought it was a bit of a laugh, everyone at the jetty had a crack at getting it out. Then the Marlin boats came in and their staff said 'get down to the hospital'. Anyway, a night at the Cook Town hospital, then a trip to Cairns hospital, then surgery,...not laughing anymore. 4 months later, my thumb is still f*@!%d and definitely not laughing now. I share this because I would like other fisher person folk to be wary of fish hooks. I'm still fishing, but got a fish hook phobia. Not sure what that's called. I should also add, that this was my second fish hook incident for the trip and clearly did not learn from the first one.
Those Pitbulls got Bite! Bloody hell mate! Have never caught a Murray Cod or had much success with lures (Got no idea what I'm doing ha ha) Might have to check them out. Cheers!
Great video robbie! The fishing in the ovens is going nuts at the moment we fished it off the bank and got 15 biggest going 64 in an arvo session! Just wondering if you have any safe spots on the ovens around Wangaratta for a kayak cod fish? Thanks!
WOW that's awesome, well done mate. Frank Garth reserve in the middle of Wang is the best mate. Heaps of fishable water, not a lot of current and a sand bar to launch from.
G’day Robbie, what a beautiful day on the river, mate, looks gorgeous. Couple of nice fish straight up. My eldest daughter, Skye doesn’t like fishing with me anymore after the fish jumping all over her when she was younger lol…. Take care mate and hope you’re on the mend 👍🏼… Cheers
I did this 2 weeks ago, same finger too! I actually got it out myself the first time but pulled the 2nd treble deep into the other side of the finger while doing it! Same outcome in the end, 6 needles and an hour at the doctors.
Bob from Bairnsdale here , Well Robbie about a month ago I told you how I did the same thing except mine was just a size 2 carp hook yours looked way worse being buried and all , the hospital at Wang must be good 2 hours is a good time frame , get well soon Mate !

Things went wrong from start to finish, but hey, you caught a few nice Cod. Hope you and that finger are good and you're back in action in no time. Take care!!!
@@robbiefishing I have done everything else you did, except that LOL Really good of you to put that all up in a video, just goes to show, its not all glamour for you being a YT star :)
And a lot of tears I reckon that you left out! What a day, started off with a set back and ended up with one, during the middle you got a fair few cod. Hope you’re feeling better now Roberto
Hey Robbie, what a great session that was, until ……….! I think most of us have done that to varying degrees, it’s easily done. Hope you’re back fishing again soon.
G'day rob.. Mate what a great video, unfortunate about your finger , the curse of treble hooks 😱... Mate glad you got some professional help , hopefully that will cause no further problems... Thanks rob .. big hello to everyone especially Skye and Loretta.... Take it easy mate 😎🏴
...no consolation for the rest of us out here in video land... we know you are hooked on fishing mate.. just didn't realise how you suffer for your art.. great show mate...
Great video, a really relaxed session, apart from the "incident". I feel your pain, I once had a massive splinter from a palm frond lodged between my index and middle fingers and it took the doctor about 15 minutes of digging around to get it out, anytime I've hooked myself I've thankfully been able to do my own surgery LOL.
Ouch. One of the hazards with fishing and glad I have avoided a serious hookup so far. I cannot say the same for my father-in-law who gets himself hooked up nearly every fishing trip.
I fully admit to being scared of trebles! I tend to stick to single hooks, or if I use a lure, I take the front treble off. Lol. Figure only having to deal with one is safer.
With all of the fishing you do it's a miracle that doesn't happen more often. Hope the digit (and you) make a speedy recovery Bro (sorry Holly - I know you have the rights to that 🤣🤣)
Bugger that's never fun, tickles a bit that's for sure. Did pretty much exactly the same thing to the same finger myself a few months back, only difference was I had the lure stuck in my shirt 😂
Hey Robbie. Hope your finger is getting better. 👉 If you ever do it again, cut the hook off as long as possible, and if not too painful, push the hooks shaft flat against your skin and tape it there, and go get it numbed up and pulled out. (Or if you're feeling like a "mucho, mucho man" (village People 😄), tightly wind a peice of string or thin ribbon from the hand side of the hook towards your knuckle cutting off the circulation for a minute, no more, then do the deed of pushing or pulling it out. Wrapping the string/ribbon tightly takes away some of the pain and most of the red stuff. Don't forget to use antiseptic before pushing dirty hook through skin) P.S. USB C is an input only connection 😁
Thanks mate. I've been able to pull some out, but not others. LOL My mobile phone charger is USB C to USB C. I can't believe I drained the power from my camera batteries back into the power pack. Haha 🤣
Oh dear, the bain of every fisher-person is a wayward hook. My experiences have been minor fortunately but two fishing partners were not so lucky. One put a hook right through his right ear while fly fishing the pondage at Eildon and my brother slipped down a large rock into the Swampy Plains river and in the process embedded one barb of a treble hook in his eyelid when he dropped his rod. I had to retrieve the rod as the current was pulling it while attached to the eyelid. Thankfully the eye was untouched. Trips to the doctor for both. Also not to be rude Robbie but those pitbull lures look like something you find in show bags, but hey it caught a nice fish--and finger. Get well.
