- Gary Brooker's appearance on the "Wetten Dass...?" show singing his Procol Harum hit "A Whiter Shade of Pale", together with members of the Bachchor Würzburg during their tour called "Rock meets Classic".
Choir, Orchestra and Band conducted by Christian Kabitz.
September 21st 1991.
The show was hosted by Thomas Gottschalk, guests among others were Arnold Schwarzenegger, Anthony Perkins, Glenn Close, David Hasselhoff, Simply Red, Barry Ryan and Peter Maffay.
In the Choir singing Hans-Christian Jabusch, Ursula Basler-Petsch, Michaela Schlotter, Oliver Neumann, Monika Giegerich, Peter Marino and Matthias Eichele.
If planet Earth had a theme, this would be the one. Surreal, eloquence, everlasting.
Gary is one of the most underrated singers of all time, thank god there are millions of us who know right where he rates....

I was 10yo when this came out.... brings back some great memories. Always loved this tune.
I was 7 Your thoughts are mine. Later in life while going on break fell down some steps and broke his hand and other lesser injuries. He went back out to play and finished the show. There are other Brooker performances on YT.

This song is a jewel of a classic song of the 1960's. This song is a perfect example of a song that has timeless appeal. 54 years after it's debut release in 1967 it still sounds pristine. I was 1 year old upon it's release... I am now 54 years old, soon to be 55 years old and i still love this song.

I think this song was originally song back in 1967 or 1968. I was 12/13 years old, my cute girlfriend loved this song, I loved it too.
Gary Brooker is still going on tour at 75 years old (in 2020)
And he still enjoys performing this song, good to hear the original lead singer turning out to add that little bit extra to this song

Actually a very simple song, based on the idea of a descent. It's the poetry of the lyrics and the nicely paced shaping of the several climaxes that give it its power. The weird little seventh notes on the piano and the Hammond organ solo give it its character. Then the vocal line with the delightful and very high passing notes give it class and soul.
The Denmark performance is one of my all time favourite performances of any song. The orchestration emotion and buzz on that one is an easy 10/10. Fruit that takes thirty years to ripen is damn good fruit
