    Generally, notes in a solo are based on the key which a chord progression belongs to. Mr. SamuraiGuitarist reverse engineered the new chord progression based on the notes in that out of key solo that Nick Jonas played. What a grand gentleman. Fixing the world one chord progression at a time.

    Nick Jonas threw that guitar solo on purpose. Like a boxer taking a dive for the mob, if you will. Look at all the publicity that failed guitar solo generated around that song. Now think about how many people clicked on the youtube video of the album cut, to hear it played correctly. You've have all been had by a masterful publicity stunt. Truth....

      What is jazz chord?

    • @n64wilbert
      @n64wilbert 8 років тому

      Theo Martin They tend to be harmonic embellishments, if you have a C major triad embellishing it would mean adding either a 6th,7th,9th, 11th or 13th on the chord like Cmaj9, Cmin7b5, Cmaj#11, Bdimb6, C dominant 9, G69, etc..

    • @theomartin6238
      @theomartin6238 8 років тому

      n64wilbert Extended chords were already used very common in classical music in late 19th and first half of 20th century. There is no such thing like jazz chord or jazz harmony. Chord is chord no matter in which way you use it.

    • @n64wilbert
      @n64wilbert 8 років тому +1

      Theo Martin Yes but they became more prevalent during era of Impressionism and Neo-Romanticism (with composers like Ravel, Déodat de Séverac, Prokofiev, etc..). Most of Baroque, Classical (especially Clementi), and even Romantic music tend to be triadic with the exceptions of the V chord having a raised 7th or Augmented sixth (Italian, German, French) chords (including Neapolitan). Bach did used a dominant 13 chord but it was used as a passing note meaning that it was consider unconventional to leave the chord with extension without resolving. While harmonic extension are not only used in jazz and can be used across genres (i.e. Western classical music, tango, rock, Cuban son, reggae, soul, hip hop...), they are more attributed with jazz music and they are frequently heard in jazz music. Most people won't hear a Gb(added 9)-Fmaj7sus2- Cb minor - Bbsus42- Abmaj7/e - Abmaj as a Debussy progression and definitely not a Mozart or Tchaikovsky but a jazz progression.

    Reminds me of when I was taking this class and procrastinated on my homework assignment where I was supposed to sit at a piano and write a melody and harmony for this bass line, and so I just busted out some fast counterpoint to finish so that it wouldn’t be obviously wrong with parallel fifths or anything, and in class, the professor put it on the piano and played through it, and hearing it for the first time it sounded like shit, but he just kept saying things like, “hmm, suggesting modulating to IV with Ab13, that’s odd, but very interesting…”
