I just figured that Megumi sensed the residuals of the Sukuna finger on Yuji in Chapter 1, since he had been in contact with it very recently.
That was the original implication given, but this could be a deeper explanation now

No, it couldn't be. Because the finger was sealed in Yuji since birth, not after birth. Yuji didn't consume it. Which is why this finger was never said to be "consumed". That makes the whole problem even more deeper in lore. So maguma regaining his 16 finger strength will not make sense
Rewatch/reread the end of Shibuya. Right after Kenjaku uses Idle Transfiguration, he then breaks the seals on all the cursed objects he placed in vessels. So at that point, is presumably when Sukuna reached 16 fingers of his power.
Hmm if Yuji was born from a finger does that mean Sukunas been inside him since the day he was bron and has just been watching him all his life? And it was only when Yuji ate his first finger that Sukunas consciousness manage to come to the surface and start doing shit, or was the consciousness from that first finger just like dormant/destroyed from Kenjaku fuckery and Sukuna only really started inhabiting Yuji when he ate the first finger.
the wording makes it seem like it was dormant, since it was "sealed" within him, not just inside him as if he ate it.
Kenjaku created those fingers so I think he did some wizardry to lock sukuna's consciousness for that finger
Yuji was created but i don't think he had an actual finger in him, i mean that it was more a blueprint kinda thing, Yuji was born with the power of a finger inside him, he was technically the finger himself.
I think the latter, the first one one sealed so Sukuna wouldn't have had the same awareness that he did compared to when Yuji eat's the first finger in Chapter 1. So Either that moment unlocked the sealed finger, or when Kenjaku broke all the seals to start the Culling Game could have also potentially unlocked the birth finger.
I think the reason why kenjaku sealed sukuna's finger in yuji since birth was so that yuji could adapt to having sukuna fingers in his body, so that later on when he eats them it wouldn't be a problem. But wouldn't the first finger have killed him? maybe or maybe not if kenjaku made a binding vow to make yuji a player and in exchange he gets to seal sukuna's finger without killing him.

Some people are making THIS way to confusing like yuji still has the last finger or oh! Sukuna was never at full power when he faught Gojo. But this all means,
Originally we thought Sukuna was at 15F when he faught mahoraga but that's not the case but he was at 16F at that time but when he transfered over to megumi he took the full 16F with him and after that Uraume gave him 3 more finger making it 19F. Sukuna never said he was missing anything but the last finger which he replaced with the mummified body = 20F and his last 1F was devoured by Rika/Yuta.
In simple terms it's (16F+3F+Mummified body) = 20F Meguna/Sukuna and the last 1F was taken by Rika/Yuta.
But I am wondering if he put 16 finger worth of power and soul in one finger and ripped it off how did he manage to use yujis body after ripping it off? Shouldn't it only be possible if he had some of his fragment inside yuji to actually still control the body to transfer the other finger inside megumi?

Even when the detention curse and the bridge curse ate a finger, sukuna wasn't secretly hijacking their bodies, just giving them more power. I think sukuna can only have consciousness when his fingers are inside a vessel, so when he made megumi eat the finger, only when his finger was in another vessel did his consciousness and soul transfer
Sukuna is literally stronger than his prime against Gojo. He was 19F of power and the mummified head was said to give him more than enough to replace 1F
No he was at 15 F when he fought mahoraga because the finger that yuji was born with was still sealed inside of him , but when kenjaku started the culling games ( at the end of shibuya) and unsealed all the cursed objects ( including the finger) he should have access to it

Sukuna did transfere all of his cursed energy and "finger power" to megumi when he shifted, so yes, i think that goes for the one inside of yuji from birth. So after Sukuna left, Yuji had no need to constantly fight back ageisnt him with his soul, so after sukuna left Yuji got all his soul back as well and that gave him that power boost.

how does sukuna maintain control of yuji's body if he transfers all 16 fragments of his soul into one of his fingers and rips it off? surely theres no soul left of sukuna inside yuji's body to inhabit it otherwise? it makes more sense to me that he transferred 15 fragments to megumi and kept 1 in yuji in order to allow him to keep inhabiting yuji's body and force feed megumi.

This chapter created so much confusion that Gege should just clarify it in his narrator note in the next chapter instead of all the random shit he tells us about.
Sukuna transferring the finger that Yuji had in him to Megumi makes sense. Sukuna even ripped off one of Yuji's fingers and force fed it to Megumi when he took over. Maybe that scene could be interpreted as Sukuna taking Yuji's finger (Sukuna's finger that was originally sealed away inside Yuji) and giving it to Megumi before taking hold of his new host.
You're looking into that scene a bit too deep. The finger was ripped off to transform it into a Cursed Object and facilitate his possession of Megumi it would've happened regardless....

What does having a Cursed Object "sealed" inside of you even mean ? Presumably that one finger doesn't behave like the others that Yuji ate. Maybe it's more like Kurama and Naruto, basically Yuji is locked out of his own CE because his body is constantly using it to contain that one Sukuna finger.
So the first finger is literally part of Yuji but the rest are just using Yuji as a Vessel. And Sukuna was somehow able to separate even that first finger away from Yuji (probably because Sukuna is literally him).

We've confirmed that the sealed finger is to ensure yuji's strength as a vessel unlike the other CG players, but how about adjusting yuji's brain to use technique? @@qururox , it doesn't make much sense if you put it that way. By this logic logic, Sukuna's original finger in Yuji somehow remained separate from the other fingers Yuji ingested. However, each time Yuji ate a finger, Sukuna within him has just regained a part of his power, and the finger itself dissipated of sorts. So, it'd be more reasonable if Sukuna got the power of this finger when Yuji ate one in ep 1 and incarnated with 2 fingers worth of power.

After the corrected translations of jjk chapter 257 it has been revealed that yuji was already born with one finger of sukuna(THIS IS OFFICIALLY STATED IN CHAPTER 257)......In my opinion i think that kenjaku sealed one finger of sukuna in yuji after his birth and then in season 1 he ate 4 fingers(total=5)......then in season 2 one finger was given by mimiko and 10 fingers were given by jogo. At the end of season 2 yuji has 16 fingers and then utahime gave sukuna 3 more fingers when he took over megumi's body.....I think sukuna took the sealed finger away from yuji when he took over megumi's body. No, i disagree. I see that he eludes to only the 3 in the panel you show in the vid. That the 1 missing was possibly with Gojo. Where in fact bow we know Yuji was physically made FROM it anf the dna of sukunas twin. Meaning the fact that yuji exists still means sukuna wasnt able to take that "finger" worth of power away. He ate his HEAD to re coop the difference. Yuji still then IS the finger/cursed object and the "son" of his twin. Hes technically made of the twins themselves. Hence his crazy natural prowess. And his ceiling is WAY higher then Sukunas ever could be. Which is why also the black flash chose him, and why Sukuna is definitely good at them naturally too. Long rant but

That plays better as anything before Sukana leaving Yuji's body would overshadow everything Yuji did. Subverting the expectations of the audience with the Yuji's "sudden" boost in power is really from removing the seal in Yuji's body.

That doesn’t make sense though (unless I’m misunderstanding) because 1.) to start with Yuji had no cursed energy until he ate Sukuna’s finger. If he had been made from a cursed object he would have had some form of cursed energy.and 2.) If Yuji had been made from the finger, then why was Sukuna even speculating in 222 where the final finger was if he already knew that Yuji had it sealed inside him? If that were the case, wouldn’t Sukuna have consumed Yuji after he transferred bodies? Also 3.) When Gojo met Yuji, he does examine him and notes that yeah the merged with him. So he couldn’t tell? He does note when he gives Yuji the next finger that it’s the second one, and says that it’s 1/10 of the whole. So I’m just finding it difficult to believe that Gojo would have missed that at all.

My personal thoughts, since it's been confirmed that sukuna ate his twin in the womb, could it be that the "open" technique he used against jogo and mahoraga is his twin's cursed technique?
I have a feeling that the binding vow that Kenjaku made was that with the finger sealed in Yuji, he would be able to hold Sukuna. But if for some reason Sukuna was able to get out and remove the finger even, it would give Yuji the power to rival Sukuna so that Sukuna could be defeated. Because if it ain't Yuji, it ain't nobody who can defeat him.
