This is a very clear in depth review. 🙌☺️

Thanks for sharing this! One of my hesitations with choosing the Alveary next year is that I really want to use Apologia for science, so this was a spot on review for me. Do you use the notebooks from Apologia?

So glad you found it helpful! We bought the notebooks a few times, but honestly found them to be a waste of money. Some of it was busy work and it could all be done in a blank notebook. All the instructions for the labs are in the textbook. The notebooks have worksheets to record your findings, colouring pages, copywork, etc. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the review. Question - do you quiz your child after reading apologia lessons? I’m asking because with my fourth grader, I am reading the apologia book on land animals and I find it to be very detailed, and at the end of the chapter she finds it hard to remember all the details. So I am wondering how much should I worry about having her remember everything versus just keep going with the book. thanks.

There are checkpoints throughout the chapter. We stop at those points and I ask her the questions to help her recall what we read. I also make flash cards with all the vocabulary words (or at least a selection of the most important ones I want her to remember) and put them on our “Word Wall”. One side of the card has the word, and on the reverse side is the definition. I get her to review the words on the Word Wall every day, once a day. The ones she has committed to memory can come off the wall and new words are added. But I don’t put too much pressure to have word-for-word definitions. As long as she can describe them in her own words! 😊
