Thank you! I am going to start a SubQ injections for my dog soon, and because of what I've learned from you I'm not going to rush into it! Tonight we will start cooperative care training and we'll start the medication when she's ready.
My rescue startles from being lightly touched by her buddy-cat when the young dog is asleep and she 16:55 snaps big. I’m thinking start with her drowsy, touch lightly from a safe distance, and reward with favorite cheese. Incremental stages of drowsy to sleep? Making sure cats are no where near. Thoughts?
I am working my way through ALLLL of the old podcasts and LOVING them seriously. But listening to this I had a question. If you are building these things up to build the positive CER, for things like tooth cleaning etc, what do you do until the CER is built up as in you can;t just not clean your doogs teeth for months while you build the response etc or same with nail trimming. I think it;s fantastic and as a wannabe dog trainer this is all amazingly insightful btu i ouwld like to ask that question.
Great question! In the Pedicure Please video, Susan talks about an alternative for nails while working on the program: ua-cam.com/video/JIPxgReFk58/v-deo.html
Hello, thank you for this episode. I just wondering what if I haven't too much time to go through all these layers and need to care my dog from the first day in our house. My future Dobermann will be with cropped ears and I will need to maintain them daily. I don't see any other way just to take him, do what I need to do, giving her some threats if she sits well or just sit at all. It is absolutely is not the way that you are talking here. What to do in this case?
Wonderful podcast as always! This gives me a few things to work on like "head down" and not being afraid to walk into the bathroom where Bessie gets her baths. Thank you Susan.
I think it's also important to remember that many people who force their dogs to do certain things or endure certain things (like cutting nails or going to the vet) have good intentions. They try to take care of the dog's health needs and don't want to make the dog scared and upset. I totally agree that consent is important, and forcing the dog is unfair and mean, and even cruel depending on the situation, but a lot of people have good intentions.
Really loved this podcast, a real eye opener. I am going to start woek on this straight away... only a few weeks ago we had to give Quincy probiotics from a tube and it totally freaked him out having something put in his mouth like that... thankfully he thought the paste was yummy so I fed it to him on a spoon, but your tips take it one step further. Thank you so much ❤
6:28, or is it all of the above? I think that oftentimes when we see a serious fearful CER, it's likely due to multiple aspects of the trigger. It probably started with one aspect, and now all of the other aspects are poisoned.
Great podcast as always and will work on Trex not liking to be in our Trucks and have it all written down for I know you have a it on podcast #98. ❤️❤️❤️❤️⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My dog hates going to the vet and have shots, and there were also aggressions shown on his visits. I tried to help but it isn't really working. Is there a video on this to help?

Hi Rachel, one of the foundations to help is through touch in play, here's a video for you to start considering the steps for helping your dog: ua-cam.com/video/LvwARdx9Ss4/v-deo.html
Here is a challenge for you, Mae reacts to certain sounds. A sneeze or cough, tin foil, or a pop can opening sends her into a barking fit. Any suggestions for things that are unpredictable?

Thank you I got a lot of ideas from this as well. Saving up my $$ so I can do recallers down the road
My dog LOVES it when I shovel, he loves catching the snow in his mouth when I toss it 😂 looks forward to it all year!

Oh, I love this one. I just got so many ideas to fix some things that have challenged me.
Slowly working through on teeth brushing. With this podcast, I know I'm on the right track and should see an improvement soon. Thank you! 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪

Great podcast. How did they monitor the loon's blood sugar while they were training consent?
I have a question...while you are working on changing the CER, how do you do the necessary procedure that must be done without ruining your progress?
I would avoid it or come up with an alternative. For example nail cutting you can teach your dog to use a scratch board.
Hi Susan, in the podcast video on consent, Susan covers this question to help. Here's where you can watch:
