It’s more than a week later open. It used to be the first Saturday after the 19th of March. Last year that was the 20th. April 2 is 13 days after March 20 by my calculations.

Mike, you are correct that it used to be the first Saturday after March 19. That would have made this year's opener March 26 (the latest it could possibly fall by the old season structure). The actual season opener now is the first Saturday after March 26 (one week later than previously), which just happens to be April 2. So it does seem considerably later, because it's hitting on nearly the latest date possible. Hope that clears things up, and thanks for checking out the video!

I can deal with the changes without issue so long as they help the turkey population. I’m not sure all these changes are the best answer. But I’m trusting the biologists to know what’s best.

The private land vs. public land change makes absolutely zero sense when we're talking about helping the "GEORGIA" turkey population. Public land makes up a small percentage of huntable land in Georgia. All that did was hurt the senior citizen who is on Social Security and can't afford a $1000 hunting club and it's not fair or right.

We completely agree, Anthony! It should be the same for public and private lands, whether that's April 2 or April 9.
