It's still called SP because 95% of the work done up until 2009 was Billy and Jimmy. D'arcy and James were suggested against recording because they can't play properly. So most of the recording are pretty much Billy, Jimmy and Butch Vig. Another reason is EVEN IF they were to change their band name, when people see Billy and his band perform they would love to hear some pumpkins songs, old or new. Billy owns the Smashing Pumpkins music and he has a right to play it with his band.
My bro got Mellon Collie on Christmas of 95 a little after it came out. I was only 10 and i have been a fan since. That is a work of art and their masterpiece in my eyes. This album sounds very much like their earlier material from Mellon Collie and before and am looking forward to this. I will always miss Jimmy, James, and Darcy, but I am glad the Billy still continues their legacy. They still sound great!
You're wrong there, dude. This kid is NOT a Jimmy copyist. He has his own style and chops. What he has brought to the table is the ESSENCE of Jimmy. Something the other drummers Billy brought in in the past didn't have. As a result, this has breathed a new life into the Pumpkins. You can hear in the new and old material these cats love being in this band. It ain't bullshit. It's real. It works. They move on....seamlessly.
i dont care if this sounds like 'i am one', this song is what draws me into the new album, and its classic smashing pumpkins. AND, im one of those idiots with the nostalgia glasses, im both 1992 and 2012. this is beautiful
God whoever still says this is not good or meh and says he's lost it should get their heads checked, clearly they are stuck in a 90s Music bubble, pumpkins or not this song kicks ass....Oh and the Zero has reawakened somewhere inside Billy
Even in terms of song writing Jimmy was an integral part of it. Billy Corgan has said "He could take a weak song and turn it into a good one". We may not have many of the early Pumpkins if it wasn't for Jimmy.
@SPoceania wow, that's an answer with balls good on you mate you know the shit I am in AWE of you you're the best SP fan I have ever had the honour to talk with
My Dad bought me Mellon Collie when I was 14 or 15, right when it came out. I have bought every album and their music and atmosphere had something special. I think Nicole is right in saying that Billy has come full circle musically. Do I miss Jimmy? Fuck yeah. Of course. Always will. But am I going to deny this iteration? No, and I hope Oceania sells like crackrocks in crack-town.
Ha! I think Mikey missed his first cue! Love to see the laughs and smiles. SO hope this record does what they hope it too. Fantastic audio, how on earth did you get tapped into it?? Thanks much btw
Well, you're right, I don't play the drums but I do understand music a little bit. He seemed to be doing a good job in my opinion, apart from breaking heaps of sticks.. (maybe THAT was not a good sign...)
you act like this happening for no reason. I saw pumpkins in 1998, 2008, and last october in 2011. 2011 was the best performance hands down, 'let it be'
It was always just Billy, when you get right down to it. Don't get me wrong, I always loved the others, but I always knew the band was Billy's alone-aside from the odd track or two. Though you do have a point, He is a massive narcissist. :) But that's Billy.. I don't think He could have produced some of the epic music He has without being one.
@DimmyDab so why would you still call the band SP when half the band is not there anymore. It's just a business operation, exactly like Mr Only did with the Misfits And why would Billy Corgan keep issuing big and small collection boxes and shit of all the old albums and nobody talks about the new records? when the horse is dead and rotten, stop floggin it...
There is no way the touring drummer for Adore is more capable than Jimmy Chamberlin. I doubt you play drums to have made a comment like that. Even Mike is showing more technical ability than that guy. Not to say he wasn't a great drummer, but you can't compare him to Jimmy let alone say they are equal.
@Quickshortvids mmmh, lots of nice people here... next time I'd better watch only, I reckon by the way, in my last comment I decided to be rude because it was the second time I was insulted without a decent reply. And by the way, the new Smashing Pumpkins suck as much as everyone who think they're cool :)
the typical things are all there: distincitve voice, those riffs & rhythms etc. but SP is just a shadow of their own past.Good drummer sure, but he's trying very much to copy Chamberlins' style as you can hear in this song.
The new drummer is adequate... he just seems so stiff.. Maybe his fluidity will improve over time. Jimmy is still the best SP drummer.. Kenny Aronoff is a close second..
I still don't like this new band, it doesn't trasmit any emotion to me. It's like the old melodies and riffs chucked in a blender and fucked up with no improvement. I saw SP in Rome in 1996, d'arcy, billy and james were there but not jimmy and they sounded outstanding, don't see why all this hate to the two old components. They had another drummer, a bald guy with glasses, who was as good as chamberlin. D'arcy had an "impish" pair of horns and was way hotter than the new bitchy doll
"Oceania" is such a great album
It's still called SP because 95% of the work done up until 2009 was Billy and Jimmy. D'arcy and James were suggested against recording because they can't play properly. So most of the recording are pretty much Billy, Jimmy and Butch Vig.

Wish they'd keep songs from this record on the recent tour
It would be interesting to hear them with Jimmy Chamberlin.
@@jaimeflor4181 I've not thought of that, great point
Such a great opening track.
Awesome album. This song and the celestials really turn the clock back. They really do ooze quality
What he did at 2:09 must have been unforgettable if you were there!
i was in PAris (2000) and all the live was so, so wonderfull
Mike Byrne those drums are dope
2:22 love the drums! good work mike!!!
Thanks for upload all this performance from Smashing Pumpkins, it is by far the best live material from SP in years
You're wrong there, dude. This kid is NOT a Jimmy copyist. He has his own style and chops. What he has brought to the table is the ESSENCE of Jimmy. jakeenan lol “copyist”
I saw the show 4 days earlier in Milwaukee. Amazing.
LOVE THE SMASHING PUMPKINS.....I AGREE GREAT CHOICE WITH THE DRUMMER..HE'S AWESOME, FITS PERFECT WITH THE BAND. THEY GOT TO COME OVER TO GREECE.
LOVE CORGAN'S UNIQUE VOICE...HEY THANKS FOR UPOLOADING THIS IS GREAT. TAKE CARE MATE.
i dont care if this sounds like 'i am one', this song is what draws me into the new album, and its classic smashing pumpkins. AND, im one of those idiots with the nostalgia glasses, im both 1992 and 2012. this is beautiful
This song is going to have to hit their official site for download soon. Awesome!
indeed, Mike Byrne slays that kit...i think the kid signed on with SP at age 19.
i love the new album im so excited for billy and the pumpkins
Glad to Hear your Smashing things up again>:.>>
Por un momento pensé que veía a Billy con D'arcy, Iha y Chamberlin en "The End Is the Beginning Is the End". Muy buen regreso Corgan!
I happen to love my rose-colored nostalgia glasses, they fit nicely:)
thank you for posting! Loved this show! Great video!!
Come to Tampa!
2:09 he kicks in star power hahaha fuck yeah
God whoever still says this is not good or meh and says he's lost it should get their heads checked, clearly they are stuck in a 90s Music bubble, pumpkins or not this song kicks ass....Oh and the Zero has reawakened somewhere inside Billy
amazing drums on this song.
Amazing drums!!!
Even in terms of song writing Jimmy was an integral part of it. Billy Corgan has said "He could take a weak song and turn it into a good one". We may not have many of the early Pumpkins if it wasn't for Jimmy.
Ten years ago you wrote this and it's so right
ride on !!
This was my first smashing pumpkins concert
They're back!!
@SPoceania
wow, that's an answer with balls
good on you mate
you know the shit
I am in AWE of you
you're the best SP fan I have ever had the honour to talk with
Never left :)
Thats how you rock. No doubt about it.
I love everything Billy does though!!!!

Love the new cd!!!!
My Dad bought me Mellon Collie when I was 14 or 15, right when it came out. I have bought every album and their music and atmosphere had something special. I like this!
i dont know why, but this remains me of rock on
@SPoceania
thanks for the creative comment,
anyway, everything after Adore is crap, because it's not SP
call it another thing please.
This is nothing like the album and this version is at least 212x better
The only thing that approaches my love of this song/performance is Ms. Fiorentino. She is perfect in many, many ways.
Perfectly Stated!
WOW this is good
@baccy81 Dimmy already answered your question, because Billy made most of the music in the first place. Billy, Jimmy and Butch Vig.
Jeffs leads are soooo gooood
YES..TOTALLY AGREE
The more I listen to this song, the more I like it.
Yes saaa Yes saaa Yes saaaa
Obviously. I meant in terms of songwriting.
The difference in quality is stark, when you compare Pumpkins with and without jimmy. :)
HOLY CRAP
Pumpkins would not have been what they were if it wasn't for Jimmy. Billy has even stated this in several interviews.
It sounds like Wolfmother, really. But it's quite great !
Ha! I think Mikey missed his first cue! Love to see the laughs and smiles. SO hope this record does what they hope it too. Fantastic audio, how on earth did you get tapped into it?? Thanks much btw
couldn't have said it better myself
old SP is the best...but..I'm curious about the new album Oceania
big fan SP
November 4th will be a good day
hey sounds more like Siamese Dream then any of their other recent stuff :o
fuck yeah!
Well, you're right, I don't play the drums but I do understand music a little bit.
He seemed to be doing a good job in my opinion, apart from breaking heaps of sticks.. (maybe THAT was not a good sign...)
im really happy seeing billy happy again!!! also this crowd sucks their just standing there lol
i wish james was in there =/
jimmy isn't in the band anymore buddy he was talking about billy
I like when illy smiles on stge
i always though the pumpkins made their best music with jimmy
it sounds like dream theater :P
What the hells up with the stiff crowd???!!
Corgan certainly made a good choice with the drummer
yes, jimmy chamberlain is!
@baccy81 I used to think the same thing, but then again, why the hell not? I didn't like Teargarden at all, but this song sounds freaking awesome.
Are the lights messing with my eyes are is the drummer using really short sticks?
you act like this happening for no reason. I saw pumpkins in 1998, 2008, and last october in 2011. 2011 was the best performance hands down, 'let it be'
Damn this reminds me of the Mellon Collie days, can't wait for this new album.
where the #$#^@ is Jimmy Chamberlin ?
I think you forgot the chord changes, Billy.
* stage. It makes him seem happy for once
@dlite3113
yeah, just put two legs on a stage, put a big drum set, shout some bullshit, and make some guitar noise
this is SP nowadays
It was always just Billy, when you get right down to it.
Don't get me wrong, I always loved the others, but I always knew the band was Billy's alone-aside from the odd track or two.
Though you do have a point, He is a massive narcissist. :)

What the fuck with the Crowd ???!!!
@DimmyDab

when the horse is dead and rotten, stop floggin it...
Good lord Mike was good. But Nicole was incredible, wish she'd stuck around.
Yeah, the Adore dude was probably the 2nd best out of all drummers that have helped Pumpkins, though Mike might get better than him eventually.
@dlite3113 She's damn hott!!!!
@Quickshortvids
mmmh, lots of nice people here...
next time I'd better watch only, I reckon

D'arcy had an "impish" pair of horns and was way hotter than the new bitchy doll
by the way, gish is the only album that I don't like
This is horrible and just messy, no melody and just sounds already used in the past reproposed in a way that is not pleasant anymore.
yeah but this is all billy corgan, not smashing pumpkins,
just a bloody narcissist
don't like him anymore,
sorry
