I never thought that in my lifetime that I would get to see Paul Simon play Peace like a River from his brilliant 1972 solo album, but I did. Now, if he would ever bust out "Everything Put Together Falls apart," "Run That Body Down" or "Armistice Day," I would really lose my shit.

He is older, you’d think he’d simplify those very difficult guitar parts - this is one of his most challenging pieces ever - but he doesn’t. Because he was a great artist who worked at becoming a more sophisticated composer and musician - and succeeded.

    • @brenda19ish
      @brenda19ish  Рік тому +1

He certainly did succeed Harold . And still does. It was wonderful that Paul included the song in the set list for his 2011 tour .

Any of you non guitar players out there... Do you realize how challenging this song is? You still rock hard after soo many year, Mr. Simon.

I was fortunate to see him on 9/7/18 in Tampa at his Farewell Tour, and he is still going so strong. I am so grateful that I was able to see him perform live..., that's enough in my bucket list. My life is now complete.

2:06 to 2:21 was a little embarrassing though, he definitely fluffed it 😂

It's oddly reassuring to see this as one of the most upvoted comments. Seriously a very difficult song to nail.

the feel of this song blew my young mind in '73
25 years later when chords didn't satisfy me and i began to learn to listen to guitar players
this song blew my mind again
i don't know anyone who can play this on guitar
the thing i love about paul is
    he is
    not stopped by world renownment
not stopped by personal travails or disappointments
    or critics naysyers or fans
    a man on a mission
brother, father, teacher, rabble rowser, friend, saint
    groovemeister
    fallible and courageous
    striving for present tense
    non stop chronicling
    his experience in this existance
    i am a lucky man
and i know that in part
because paul simon told me so

Borders on genius as a songwriter. Probably one of the best in the world, and the songs are quite good, for sure.
How can ONE person without a band compose the lyrics, melody, rhythm, and story lines with such brilliance.
JUST HIM, for the most part. Plus the singing and guitar playing!!

I love how this song could be about anything. What comes to mind for me is either a band of rebels/ revolutionaries in hiding or perhaps a forbidden love.

    • @nashvegasnow
      @nashvegasnow 4 роки тому +1

      i agree parsleyrose
i thot the same thing in '73 when i bought this album
saw a video in my head based on 3 songs
      long before mtv
of a young man leaving detroit and the machine
      living on gatorade
      pa hobo
ending up in the bed of a revolutionary
all songs so important to my 18 y/o mind
of getting away from and into my life
      thank you for your thots
and still to this day paul's guitar work still blows my mind
