I agree that the Rephr 29 brush is great but mine started splaying out after few weeks of use so I looked for something similar/better. I found the Bisyodo Shiori series Point Brush which is similar size but no splaying so far and feels nicer on my sensitive eyelids. Performance is same as Rephr 29, cost about 12$. I’ve only had it for 1 month but if it continues performing well, I will get a backup or two.

I had that same experience with the Rephr brushes. They don’t hold their shape as well as many of my other brushes. Now I very carefully reform the brush head with my fingers when I wash my brushes and lay them over the edge of a table, counter, or dresser so that the head hangs off while it dries. I have found though that I have to use the Masters brush soap that I use to clean to make almost a paste in order to create a cast for reshaping these brushes. I let it dry and harden, then break the cast. It acts like the gel that brush makers use to protect the brush head when packaging and transporting.

Sorry to hear about the splaying, that's not good.
I actually just received the pamphlet for the Shiro (Black in English) Series of Bisyodo. I just perused through it, but now that you are singing high praises about it. I should check it out! Thank you!

@@tortorre I buy it from art supply stores. Same thing I use for my watercolor brushes, especially my kolinsky ones. It’s both a cleaner and a preserver. Using it thicker as a paste and letting it dry both conditions and reshapes it. I do use separate containers for my makeup and my paint brushes since some paint pigments are toxic

I have bought a few Rephr brushes myself, both eyeshadow brushes and one of their limited edition saibikoho blush brushes. Honestly, I hardly use them because they aren’t my favorites. The bristles are scratchy and not as soft as other brushes in my collection. The saibikoho hair was not as soft as other saibikoho or the Koyomo vintage aged goat hair brushes in my collection; however it was extremely inexpensive for a saibikoho brush. I could make a whole argument over how grading goat hair is a subjective process so using these labels is not an exact process but I don’t want to go off tangent. The handles honestly feel cheap. At regular price, they are overpriced so I recommend waiting for a sale. They also market a lot through influencers which puts me off and reminds me a lot of Morphe. What I will commend them on is designing eyeshadow brushes geared towards certain eyelid types because that is an issue. Companies like Chikuhodo offer fairly basic brush shapes (which is one of my biggest complaints about them) and other than Hakuhodo, Sonia G, and the relaunched Wayne Goss brushes, there isn’t a lot of diversity in eyeshadow brush shapes. I have hooded eyes and the need to find better eyeshadow brush shapes is precisely the reason I got into fude brushes.

Want to add that the reason why they probably designed their brushes to apply pigment heavier and quicker is because they are more targeted for the North American market and that market is more interested in building strong pigment quickly. Same reason why they mainly send PR to North American influencers.

I am loving your input! thank you!
So far I have not noticed any "scratchiness" nor "prickling" with their bristles. But I do echo your sentiments where in they are not as soft as brushes from other brands.
I do feel that they mix goat hair grades for their bristles. some might even be Sokoho and Hakutotusho. It's the same sensationn I feel when I use the Hakuhodo Yachiyo brushes, esp. the smaller sizes. I have not had much experience with the face brushes yet. But despite these "difference" I have come to appreciate some of the brushes that I got from them.
And now that you mentioned it, I like the range of their eyeshadow brushes because they have small bristle types that fit into my eyelid space. There's also such a big jump between sizes with the Blending/crease brushes.
Those Koyomo brushes are soooo amazing! I would love ot have more but, their just so expesive! hahah
I also like how observant you are about the differnece in makeup culture between countries and regions but yes, being at Rephr is an American brand, they do cater to the American market and makeup sentiments.

@@tortorre I agree with your assessment of the grades of hair that they likely use. Granted a lot of brands are no longer mentioning grades because grading is so subjective for the most part with the exception of what area of the body the goat hair is from.
FYI Rephr is a Canadian brand.
I know the Koyomo brushes are so expensive. That’s why their much less expensive vintage outta goat hair brushes, the Pearl Pink and Pearl White brushes, are so popular. First Koyomo brush I bought was the Tsuki Hana-Nuri face brush which is vintage saikoho hair. It’s so soft. Honestly the most prized brush in my collection and I baby that brush

@@teufel75 thank you for letting me know that they are Canadian! All this time I thought they were American!
I want to have a Face brush from Koyomo! All I have are blush brushes! Which are currently enshrined on my table! 😘
