Any podcast listeners I recommend The Signal’s Why Gas? podcast. One of the most chilling aspects mentioned is how Australians could be locked into gas for _decades_ for essentially no valid reason at all since Australia’s use of gas is already falling and the few things that still need gas could have their needs met via households switching to cheaper electric appliances and freeing up gas for the business that still require it, rather than building new gas plants. Also the standards that the government is setting for the market to meet or they’ll step in and add more gas to the equation is not only years out of date but also potentially scaring of potential sustainable investors. Thanks for the add, I needed that after that podcast.
I'm from germany and we have the same thing you have with the gas industry but here it's coal instead. Like, we could have been done in 2012 but nope. Gotta finance those 20k jobs left in the coal industry, instead of the 80k jobs we *lost* in wind-power instead. Also yeah, I'm sure all that money goes to the workers and not the CEOs. Also we discuss the exit strategy for coal ever 4 years and every 4 years they get money for getting out but then don't. Cool and Normal.

One thing to note: the New Deal did not “end” the Great Depression in America. @@TheSkeletonSkier Well if you are gonna say a well known fact is wrong you better prove it. Come with some evidence or you are just lying. The New Deal is well known to have pulled USA out of the depression. What caused the recession was premature and abrubt efford to curb goverment spending while the economy was still not ready for it.. They turned off the tap to early.. If you know anything about ecnomics, there are 2 different fiscal policies.. Expansionary and contractionary. Expansionary fiscal policy, designed to stimulate the economy, is most often used during a recession, times of high unemployment or other low periods of the business cycle. It entails the government spending more money, lowering taxes or both. And you guessed it, contractionary is when things are going good. A smart goverment should save during these times to have resources for the bad times. Maybe increase taxes etc.

Russe ok, I agree with most points you make, but Australia was on the skids when Fraser was governing, in came Hawke:/Keating, they got strikes under control, set an accord with the unions and got the country moving again.

It’s been a rigged election for about a decade now.
Cameron Richens omg... rigged? Are you of sound mind?
@@cameronrichens6738 How was it rigged? Australian election system is not like the bullshit in the US. In Australia you have mandatory voting. You don't have an electoral college. Every vote counts equal. And best of all, you can vote for more than one party and decide who is your number one and number two. This way you can vote for a 3rd party without throwig away your vote like in the US. Australians have absolutely ZERO excuse compared to USAmericans for having voted for this rightwing bullshit party, AGAIN. This is on the people. It's the people who voted for them
I know, Australia has like 90% rightwing media, dominating the news, however, for rightwing bullshittery to resonate with you you have to think in the same frequency first. The people who buy into it agreed to begin with it and just hear what they always thought. In that regard it's remarkable that 50% of Australians aren't rightwingers.

So was it the quick succession of floating the dollar and introducing deregulation into the Banking sector that just overheated the market causing a chain of events to lead up to the recession?
