Megan's wine tasting notes from irongate.wine/1998-chateau-de...
What a perfect occasion for a solo drinker! Half bottles have become a great alternative to opening a full bottle, and makes for a fine opportunity to appreciate wine with bottle age. Chateau de Beaucastel is one of the quintessential wines of Chateauneuf du Pape. Located at the Northern fringe of the appellation, its vineyards benefit from the Mistral wind which brings balance and concentration to the grapes (the Perrin family uses all 13 permitted varieties in their blends) and in the wines themselves.
This wine is a clear, ruby-garnet color with a prominent nose of red and black fruits (strawberry and cherry, mainly). These primary notes are now in a complimentary role to the beguiling character of licorice, savoury garrigue, sweet oak spice, dried cherry, fine leather, and game that have developed with time in the bottle. This vintage is richly textured with supple tannins, a full body, and acidity enough to make all the flavours of this bottle sing.

What are the fundamentals for you to say it's a Grenache dominated wine and then you state it's 30% Grenache/30% Mourvédre and the rest are supporting partners? In their website (I think you might of read their description and got caught in the web of not letting your senses and interpretation work 100% by themselves), they specifically say this vintage has a "Grenache nose", but that's a completely different story of being Grenache dominated in the blend itself. Just a thought.
