One of the highlights of my wine travels was a visit to Beaucastel, complete with a tour, tasting, and brief encounter with Francois Perrin. It was also the one and only time I was able to taste the Villes Vignes Roussanne. Special producer.

I discovered this wine at the restaurant Noble Rot in London. It was the 2000 vintage and it was a transformative experience. Amazing. I sourced a half case of the 2000, full of 2016, and half of the 2017. Thankfully the prices are better in the UK. In either country when you compare the QPR to Bordeaux, and doubly so for burgundy, the wine is a great value.

Nice video John, Beaucastel is great!

Very late here now but I couldn’t possibly call it a night without watching this video about one of my favorite producers in Southern Rhone. Château de Beaucastel's Chateauneuf-du-Pape wines are some of the best wines I had tasted in that magical region - and this outstanding video certainly brings back memories of that autumn visit and tasting. You have given us an excellent overview of this CdP marvel including vintage recommendations, and it has definitely increased my knowledge about Ch. de Beaucastel. Thank you for that! Santé, John!

Beaucastel is one of my absolute favorites and it hurts my heart that I don’t have near the budget to drink it on a regular basis. I’ve had several bottles of the 2009 and it’s spectacular. A good option from Beaucastel for those needing something less expensive might be their Coudoulet de Beaucastel CdR, which also has a larger portion of Mourvèdre.

The first "expensive" wine - meaning 60 Euro I tried, was a Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine de la Janasse, Chaupin, 2012 (100% Grenache). It was amazing. The first thing I thought of when tasting it, were strawberries.

  • @lauracanna2201

I was surprised that the red was 75% Mourvedre. I obviously wrongly assumed that the majority of the blend was supposed to be Grenache and the rest could be any of the allowed grapes. I have learnt something new today 😊

I have just ordered up some of their CdP Rouge from the 2017 vintage which i am looking forward to getting stuck into in a few years time. In the meantime, its "cellar defender" is the 2018 Coudoulet du Beaucastel. I have had 2013 Coudoulet several times last decade and it was a delight to drink (better than many other producers many CdPs).

I don't seem to be able to find it in the UK, unless I shop a case but I'll keep an eye out 😊

I had 2010 vintage ... awesome but my 2011 vintage is flat and tasting totally different then my past experience

Ah, one of the great wines. That and Vieux Telegraph were my favourite Ch.NduP wines in years gone by but, alas, they are out of my price range these days. Btw, have you tasted the 2020 Barolos yet; the Wine Society has just published its en primeur offer. It sounds good for relatively early drinking and, as 2020 will be my last year for en primeur purchasing, I might indulge. The Roggeri Ciabot Berton looks a steal at £145 for six in bond. I recently had a 2011 from that vineyard and it was superb. Do you know this producer/vineyard?
