- Digital games have a massive problem that's making owning physical games seem better and better. Games like Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League and World of Warcraft have this issue, that will mess up a lot of people.

I agree with you, I remember the good old days of buying a game and it being finished one day ,no patches ,no updates ready to go out the gate. The more I think about it the older I feel lol
I miss just getting a complete game on arrival that never needs any tweaks
Single Player Games FTW!
Yep!
Couch co-op
I actually remember when I owned the games of Okami and bully for wii and just how long those games lasted for me, literal years and I never had to worry about it being affected by some kind of online service. nowadays I have to give a small prayer daily that the online servers don’t get shut down, especially with mobile games cause I actually enjoy some of them but feel a special rage when they get taken down because the publisher went “screw it”
It's sad that at any point now, a publisher can decide to just "delete" a game from public access. All the time people spent playing them don't matter to these companies unfortunately.
This is the problem I have with other digital content like shows and movies, you’re never buying the content rather you’re buying access to it. As soon as the company goes under or decides to stop hosting it, that’s it. You can never access it again, invalidating your power as a consumer.
Yep. I own a few movies on amazon prime just because of the convenience of it, but I know that if I ever lose access to that account it will be like I never owned them in the first place
Some even take away your digital movies if you haven't watched them in x amount of time.
What upsets me the most is so many ‘physical copy’ games you buy at the store are actually just digital code discs that allow you to download the game.
Why would they do that?? Only thing I can think of is the game is too big for just one disc. So make multiple discs. And burn the game on the disc. That’s what we pay for.
I can’t like this video enough.
And ‘you will own nothing and be happy’ is definitely upcoming. I’m glad you mentioned it!
It's disappointing to see that happen. Putting in a disc and then seeing you need to download 100gb of data before you can play is disheartening. Like what was I even buying?
And yea, we used to get multiple discs. Everything is so backwards nowadays.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
This is what I have been telling my friends for years. I buy all my games in physical format as long as I can.
Yep, for consoles I buy 100% physical.
Same here, it's physical games or nothing for me.
Completely agreed! From your voice to God's ears!
I remember being so ticked off when I bought my first copy of Arkham City, early enough that I not only could play as Catwoman, but I also expected my copy to let me play as Robin. Except no, all I had were useless codes, like the developers just assumed all of their customers would have had an Internet connection for their consoles back then.
They did better with the GotY version, but Arkham City was still the Harbinger of Doom for me.
It's quite annoying. Not everyone has an internet connection, there's no guarantee you'll still be able to download that extra content years down the line, and they really try hard not to specify that stuff when you're buying a game.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
As someone who literally only has my phone’s hotspot for internet access in my home because I live in the middle of nowhere, it really sucks, I buy a game and slowly download it a little at a time over a week or 2 before I can even play it, I’ve replayed the same 10-15 games over the past 2 years I think I can almost predict things that are supposed to be “random encounters”
Yeah it really sucks for people in your position especially, and people with slower internet access. A game launch might mean you play it days or a week later.
Peeps don't realize you still have to pay for money to download the freaking the game you know internet connections aren't free 😂
I lost my old account on PlayStation and i had over 70+ games 💀 and it was during Covid so the customer service wasn’t even helping me and i lost all those games lol.
So now i own physical games only and most ps2 games
That's really sad to hear. Yeah even though I play games on PC and know I can lose them, for my console games I buy 100% physical because I know they'll always be there.
How did you loose it brother!? 🤔
It’s so direct and honest and that’s why it hurts to hear the truth. 100% with you on this. Liked and subscribed
It's time for something to change in the industry.
And welcome!
I agree! I miss that feeling of anticipation on the ride home. the feeling of booting it up for the first time and immediately seeing that new menu screen. it was so satisfying.
Oh gosh yea, even reading the back of the box and imagining everything you were gonna do and see was so exciting. Now when a game releases I have to wait hours for it to download.
I’m so glad this topic is being talked about. 100% agree with everything!
I feel like it doesn't come up enough. Glad you liked it!
@Lexi-M You're very beautiful ❤
I actually completely agree with you.
Just saying it how it is
I had this same argument with someone over physical blu rays.... No but streaming has everything well until the streaming closes or they take down your favourite movie 😂😂😂😂
Exactly
Totally agree but i think they do need to just established that people have a choice too because digital games has service like cloud and patch for redemption
There are some pros to the digital age of gaming, like patches that fix problems with the game. However, I think that's lead to a lazy mindset for publishers to just push out games when they're broken because they can fix it later.
My man speaking facts......kudos. Ending was awesome....😂
Great video bro.....keep it up. Thanks for being the voice of OG gamers.
Haha thanks! I'll keep trying to share what everyone is already thinking
The problem with kill the justice league really is the internet connection being required to play it like it's a fortnite or some other multiplayer game.
I have many digital games I can play without an internet connection just fine. Even marvel avengers doesn't need a internet connection to play it (it does need one to access more content but at least you can play it offline.)
Yeah, its a bad trend that the industry is moving toward. Games like Hitman 3 also have this problem, where a ton of the functionality of the game or even the whole game itself becomes unavailable when the servers go down, even though they're single player games.
I just got my dad a ps2 setup and a bunch of games. The good old days!
That's awesome! Still one of if not the best console ever!
Agreed. But let's not forget the vast field of indie games, many get only limited physical runs or none at all and it does add extra costs to produce physical media.
and availability is a real thing, tried to get a physical copy of "Sekiro" im several stores and even Amazon earlier this year and couldn't find it. So digital for me.
other than that, 100% on board on this one.
Very true. It's great that indie games can be published digitally at very low cost. But if I'm not mistaken, a lot of them don't have DRM which makes it possible for them to be played offline in the future.
Your rant is still so gentle despite the harshness and swearing I kinda laughed at you. But yes I'm the same. All I barely started to do now is to play the old ones with emulators on my devices (because I have no extra money to buy the consoles and physical copies of the games).
Haha I guess that's just how I am. And emulators are great, especially because there are so many hidden gems on older consoles.
This is why my pc has a disc drive 😅 I buy all my older games physical for it, and my switch wherever I can, it’s just a shame I love indie games and they rarely get an accessible physical release
I feel that on the indie games. If it weren't for the limited print services like limited run, superrare, etc, they might never get a physical at all.
@@realtayo42 for sure, I always keep my eyes peeled just in case. It’s a case by case basis for me if I can afford the investment
I completely agree with you I'm not a digital gamer at all I'm all physical
I just love picking up a physical copy, it's so satisfying.
Exactly👍👍 @@realtayo42
Well said. When digital started becoming more mainstream, there were plenty of useful idiots on various forums and video game website comments sections, meandering about "adapting" and how it's perfectly fine. Yet we have come to see just what a convoluted mess it has become and those same useful idiots are now busy making up excuses for or trying to function within that mess.
Haha indeed! I'm not totally against digital games because they're convenient but there should ALWAYS be a physical release if in any way possible and that's the one I'm opting for.
"Oh you're just too poor to play an online game"
"You mean I don't like my games dying?"
Game companies will forever be confused why people don't want to invest in a game with a limited lifespan
This sort of sums up what I've been saying for years. We the gamers for the most part have been allowing this to happen and that by buying digital, we are just giving up our rights as a consumer. I personally won't buy any game that's not 100% playable offline and doesn't need any patches to work. Also I'll only buy physical games.
Yeah. Anytime I see the "online required" now it's basically a steer clear from me.
(That’s why you pirate games you already own so you never have to worry about em being deleted. You already paid for it so there shouldn’t be an issue)
This is certainly a method
it's very inconvenient especially for someone who don't have fast internet. Redownloading the whole game just because the new patch.
Are physical games really the answer though? With all the day one patches, updates, consoles downloading the entire game on to the SSD/HDD anyway it feels like there’s no difference between physical and digital anymore.
There's starting to not really be an answer tbh. The only good bet are games that are drm free and launch in a finished state.
You seem cool, subscribed
Welcome in!
Great video that I 100% agree with
Glad you found it valuable!
That’s my only problem with pc gaming now I know emulation kinda is a way around it cause the pc has the most game preservation but hot take: I wish modern pc games had discs or at least something like Nintendo cartridges
Yeah, at least there are option like GOG with DRM-less games that you actually own.
I do miss big box pc games and disk readers as well
Games based on licensed properties should never be released exclusively in digital format!
I agree. You never know when digital rights agreements between companies are gonna end, and the content gets ripped right off the internet.
@@realtayo42 The Nintendo 3DS game 100%パスカル先生 完璧ペイントボンバーズ was delisted from eShop in 2021, but I'm glad to get the physical copy of it (and it does not requires Internet connection to play the single player and local multiplayer modes).
If all digital and all streaming games worked so well and was so great then Google Stadia would still be around.
Yep. I made a video about that haha
Preach it louder for people in the back!!!
*Grabs megaphone*
I miss physical games
It's nice to just have something physical you can hold.
You're telling me that developers takes years to make a game but decide to release it unfinished only to patch it later? Then why release it in the first place instead of taking extra time to polish it in the best state possible before releasing? The 90s and 00s were the golden age of gaming. Buy the complete game, insert it in and play. No wait no hassle.
Yeah, I miss that era before consoles had internet access. They HAD to ship games in a good state because that was the final state for the game. A broken game would stay broken forever.
Because you have an army of suits like ceo/cfo/shareholders/investors/etc.etc above your head. So it's not like you have that much to say. In other hand look what happens when you don't have anyone above you to scream at you. aka Star Citizen
Rather just stick with my RPGs only live action game I want is a MMORPG like EverQuest or Warcraft, Fortnite was alright but I don't have to pay for the base game so I play it free is free
Yeah I mostly play single player games. That said, a game I love is Hitman 3 and it requires an online connection, so one day I'll either lose access to the whole game or a massive portion of the features.
@@realtayo42 so true I remember Dragonball online really loved that game wish they brought it back
Bump
Pop
Nobody can disagree with this. But what you’re suggesting is never going to happen. That era is long gone. Unless magneto wipes out the internet infrastructure.
It's unfortunate. The best we can get now is just single player games that don't require an internet connection to play. The rest of my suggestions will likely never happen because publishers are out of touch and want money from live service type games.
real
And real
It's not like disc games don't have this problem. Good luck if you wanna play current game in like 10 years in the future. Yee you have disc but no patchs. So if game have game breaking bugs, you are f**k
2:30 ye GT7 was installing from net even with disc. I had to disconect ps5 and start againe
It's too bad we're not in the era of games just launching in a functional state and not requiring day one patches. Very annoying to put in a game and then wait for hours for a massive download
also the always online trend an extra spice. Lets jsut say you get the game installed 120gig for the first day then want to playbut oh no. The team just released a new stupid patch fixing some stuff you dont care but you cant play now because there is another 60gig comming down on your potato internet taking another day, and tomorrow is the same... Also what if you kinda liked when in your singel player game the shotgun was slightly overpowered compare to the other weapos and want to keep in that way but oh no that stupid patch jsut nerfedthe shit out from it and you cant start the game unless you dont update. Some ARPG you spend time to have a valid build jsut to relise one day they nerfed it to the ground so you can throw it to the bin... Also what about the server update, so you cant play the game stuff. And we talkign about single player games still not these MMO shits.
Yeah exactly, unless it's to fix bugs (that shouldn't have shipped with the game in the first place) I don't want patches that change the game in a single player title. Just leave me alone and let me play the gamy.
