- LINKS BELOW: Harley-Davidson Shovelhead swingarm frame converted to a hardtail. This is just one way to do it and I’m an amateur. Im not the best at explaining things and this kinda breezes over a lot so make sure to leave a question in the comments if you’re confused. You can do most of this with a welder, cut off wheel, flap disk, drill and files but this kit will require a pretty decent frame fixture.
You should really invest in this DVD from Ron Covell, pro stuff here:

Hardtail kit from Fab Kevin:
www.fabkevin.c...
Good resource for people looking to build/modify harley frames. Also has frame fixture plans to build your own. Frame dimensions to check your work from: chopperbuilder...
Specifically the section on frame fixturing: chopperbuilder...
A decent cheap frame fixture: www.chopsource...
That hardtail kit is so much nicer than the prefab kits that have no cast axle plates. You are livin' the life! Building choppers, fabricating, modifying in a well equipped shop.
As soon as I heard that cowbell in the very beginning I knew it was gonna be a good video. 👍 Same tunes playing in my shop every day.
Thanks Ben. You now your stuff. Fab Kevin's components are top shelf. Anybody who has a blow-up of an old photo of Dick Allen hanging on the wall of his shop is doin' some good. Dig that tune by Mountain too. My fave by Leslie West and band is "Never In My Life." That frame turned out choice. I dig that swishy tail Panhead you built for the Biltwell competition. Keep building them right. Ride safe.
Thank you!
Awesome job on the blocks man, easy way to make sure your wheel is true
Such a good idea to use the bed as the base of your jig.
Respect - that is some Great fab work
Man!!! That is one damn fine jig/fixture
Thanks!
Great video. Very informative. You've a great way in putting the info across. Can't wait for part 2. Your jig is ace.😎🤘
Thanks!! Should upload the part two later today. Finishing up the welding now
Beautiful work and great video. Thanks
Thank you for taking your time and doing this video awesome information.
Awesome job and set up 👍
More videos please
Perfect job!
You’re the man
Как называются вот эти литые детали рамы?
If you don't have access to a TIG welder, what else would you recommend for hardtailing?
You could really use any steel welding process but I would recommend at least mig welding
awesome!
Sweet!
do hardtail frame often crack?
If done properly shouldn’t crack
Obviously with some video editing this looks like a pretty quick job. How many man hours did the whole process take if you don't mind me asking.
Think i had a few days into it total
@@benjeffweldingandfabricati251 Thanks for the reply, Quite a job then.
Where are you located at in Illinois??? I'm looking for a shop to rake and stretch a softail frame
I’m in Indiana
woweeee
Word.
Where is Ben located. Does he work on commission jobs or what.
I’m in Fort Wayne, IN and yes I do work for people. Shoot me an email if you ever need anything done!
Fuckin awesome!
How to ruin a good stock frame ! Especially when you can purchase aftermarket frames better made ! True story !
Well you’re gonna be real sad to learn tons of them get chopped everyday. A lot of people want to retain their factory HD title with a modified frame. I’ll gladly restore them back to stock too!
@@benjeffweldingandfabricati251 I understand , not trying to troll ya ! I’ve personally am know looking for a stock 79 HD frame because at 66 my back can’t take the hardtail anymore! But I admit I love that power to the rear wheel ! 👍
