Not only did you help me pick out my Pioneer AVH-X5800BHS out from all the other double din units out there, but you guys have helped me figure out how to hook up "true" mirror link, enabling me to hook up a XBox 360 and my cell phone to watch Netflix, DirectTV and Hulu but now you taught me to do filmware updates. This video was so helpful! I spent multiple times over the last year trying to figure this out... turned out I had an incompatible flash drive (3.0). Picked up a 32GB 2.0 from walmart for $5 and done!
Apparently pioneer didn't bother to make the firmware updatable on 3-digit units, (I have AVH-280BT), sucks because with iPod connection, repeat is turned on by default w/apple music app, have to turn off every time I connect. There are other minor glitches, I'm guessing because iOS 10 is newer than the HU. If I had known there would be no updates available, I would have spent the extra dollars to get the 2800 instead. These companies should be required to state the firmware is not updatable, considering all smart phones get regular software updates which may affect how it works with the unit.
On my AVH-1330 NEX the firmware update was greyed out. Parking brake was set and no Bluetooth or other connections. Still greyed out. Below is what worked for me, just in case others have same issue. Got this from another forum: My steps I did: ignition in on position, go to source, select OFF, and Firmware update was no longer grey. Selected the update and it prompted me to insert USB drive. Unzipped the .AVH file to USB root, plugged in and update happened. Was not fast and boot took a moment once complete. Made sure to keep my hands away car power while the update was happening...lol.
Same thing happened to me but I have yet to try again. I either had my car running, or had the key turned to the click before the engine starts. Ebrake was up the whole time. The "Firmware Update" was grayed out.
Glad you pointed out the source must be off. It's not in the instructions. Firmware Update would not illuminate. Then I remembered your instructions to shut the source off. Update: Screen went blank/black as expected. Unfortunately it hasn't restarted after a half hour. The buttons do nothing to turn the unit on. Kind of scared to the truck off and restart after disconnecting the battery.
Ditto ayoung2465 update... you guys are awesome. You helped me as well with the selecting at the time AVH-X5700BHS. It has worked great & watched this to learn how to do the Firmware update for version 8.31. It seems to have processed fine. Everything went the same as your video here. It said it was successful & okay to remove the USB. Which I have done, but it has stayed dark for 2 hrs 45 mins now. I'm trying to keep my faith that it will complete and come back on. In the mean time I've hooked up the trickle charger to make sure the battery doesn't die. This upgrade is suppose to include the update for Apple One, so maybe there is just lots of data that needs to be loaded.... I'm doing my best to keep the faith and remain faithful. I may have to call Pioneer tomorrow if it fails to load. I really don't want to have to use this as a boat anchor. Thanks for all you instruction videos.
+ I saw a question come up on my iPhone if the DVD/Receiver ever came back on. To my knowledge it still hasn't. I haven't been watching it the whole time. I go out in the garage every so often to check. So far it is still dark. I have left the key on and powered up. I did add a comment before this, one but I can't seem to find it, so I may have posted my first comment on one of your other videos???
+Rod Bilderback ok so sometimes we run it this problem. We unplug the radio, wait a couple of minutes and re-apply power. The radio take a minute and comes back on. Warning we do this on radios before we install them and we have a stock room with a new one if they go bad. This is your choice and it may kill the radio so do at your own risk. That us know how it goes.
+Five Star Car Stereo Thanks again guys. I let it sit powered up until I called Pioneer today. They mentioned not using Windows 10 but Windows 7 or before Windows OS to download the file. They said Windows 10 can add files as well as some flash drives. They said Kingston seem to be good flash drives for this process. They told me to turn the car off and back on and it should go back to the previous Firmware when the car was turned back on. As soon as I arrived home, I turned the car off, started it and the DVD face moved and "WHA-LA" it came alive. It also said the update was successful. I set the language & went to the firmware. To my pleasant surprise it is the 8.31 latest version I was trying to load. All is good. Now I just have to figure out all the new features this version provided. Thanks again for your support.
For me I had it grayed out even tho I had the bybass installed so I had to set the key to the on postion and have system update on favorites then once you plug in the usb wait for about 30 sec and then it let me do the update. The radio was a PIONEER MVH-1400NEX.
I just want to let everyone know how simple it is to bypass the parking brake. super simple (even though it took me ages to find out). Simply - CONNECT GREEN PARKING BRAKE WIRE TO GROUND WIRE. THATS IT.

AVH-X5650BT this model does not have a firmware update on the pioneer website, it is ok to update the AVH-X5750Bt firmware. Or find an appropriate update please help me
Great info. I have the DEH-S4010BT I downloaded the update like you did and I'm using a PNY 32gb USB and it keeps saying "File Error" on my head unit. Can you help? Thanks 👊😎👍
Success: Here's what I've learned: 1) Do the download on Windows, not on a Mac 2) Use a brand new formatted flash drive 16gb to be safe 3) follow videos instruction to download the file 3) Unzip the downloaded file and then copy the resultant file to your thumb drive 4) have the emergency brake on, have the flash drive plugged into your USB1 on your Pioneer System and then turn your car key all the way to just before starting the car 5) follow the videos instruction from the point that they say to turn "Source Off" - depress that icon hard and your Pioneer will respond to it, and then will allow you to do the firmware update good luck!

I have a Pioneer AVH-Z5250BT, I have recently updated the firmware to the latest that's currently available. The head unit worked fine without any issues, I also have a backup camera installed to it, after the firmware update my backup camera doesn't work; when I put the car into reverse the head unit see the car is in reverse but only displays a black screen with the wording "the displayed image might appear mirrored", if I the take the car out of reverse then the unit display display normal operations. I did not make any changes to the camera itself and I've setup the camera after the firmware install, sometimes the camera displays an image but then it doesn't work again for a time period of time again... Is there away to roll back the firmware to an older version that I know worked without issues?

Five star car stereo. I have the avh-x4700bs. Just recently the touch screen is acting crazy. Not opening what I touch. The unit also turns on my Google assistant randomly and I sometimes have constant crackling from my front speakers and the bass hitting with my sub. All while no music is being played. I can't find any solution in the net. Can you point me in the right direction?
The file i downloaded for the update is a zip folder. Do i unzip the folder at only copy that on the flash drive or do I copy the zip folder with the folder inside it as it is?

Hello Guys, love the video's, big help. Question I have a AVH 5800 and I just bought a Kicker Hidaway sub, I have a pair of Polk 6502 speakers in the front, and they have their own crossover. How do I hook this sub up to the AVH 5800, No directions at all. it just has 2 pair of speaker wires and a power wire !!

Hi guys bought a PIONEER AVH-X5700BHS at the end of 2014 it never worked properly always refreshing problem got worst now it takes long to start up then it will shut down and restart several times before some sort of stability is achieved upgraded firmware recently too 08.50 latest for this model still no improvement whatsoever is there something wrong with this radio there are several very similar almost identical complaints about thIS PIONEER LINE OF RADIOS need some help or advice on what too do.
Good video except for neglecting to tell us to unzip the file and put the unzipped file on the usb stick. My radio doesn’t even let me select software update. It’s greyed out. Tried car on , off, in park with e-break on and off. Not sure what else to try.
What is frustrating to me is that each time I add new music to the thumb drive, it takes longer and longer (days) for the unit to somehow absorb the directory of music. Normally I can click on the folder icons or use my steering wheel controls to advance through each cd or artist. But when it's presumably "reindexing" the music directory, I can't use those features. So all that's left is to scroll through the list to try to manually locate the new music or to move to the next cd. Otherwise, it just repeats the same set of songs on whatever cd was last selected. What I'd like to know is if there is a trick to getting it to index faster. I took a four hour drive lately and had added new music before I left home. The directory didn't get indexed until late into the return trip, and coincidentally the yellow folder buttons showed up after I had the Head Unit set for radio for awhile. I was wondering if the unit indexes the thumb drive in the background faster when it's not being read from to play music, or something like that. I'll try doing that next time I add music, but I was hoping for some method to get the folder buttons to appear sooner. I have the optional sirius module, but due mostly to the taxes they charge, I never subscribed to the service. They give you the base price which looked acceptable to me, then they add on the artist's commission or taxes or something and it adds nearly 50% to the total monthly bill. I figured I might as well just buy a new album every month and put it on my thum drive...which is what I'm doing, but you see the problem I'm having now. Please let me know if you have a fix. Thx.
Tried updating my AVIC-8200 and failed. Pioneer instructions are lousy and confusing. Downloaded zip file has a folder AVICAVH16 with many files. Is Pioneer saying you place the folder on the USB drive? Big difference between folder and file. Anyhow, after reading the USB drive, 8200 gave an error message that the file is bad or USB is corrupted. USB has System Volume folder that is put there by Windows after I reformatted with FAT32. BTW, use USB port 1 for update.
I have the AVH-2300NEX and right out the box I'm having a problem with the deck reading the lighting cable to where my last Pioneer had no issues with reading the lighting cable. One other thing how do I get Carplay to initiate on this model?

I never had to use USB, my AVH-Z9100DAB updated via my wired phone connection. It prompted me and I said OK, waited and next thing whole interface updated. Now easier to switch between apps on android auto. Might have just been a load of app updates not sure.
Im having a problem with my head unit avh-x8650bt, the usb doesnt resume the song which im playing whenever car is restarted and it starts from one song always and I change the color scheme wallpaper etc but whenever car is started again everything is reset . I tried to update firmware and when update was finished I checked firmware no it was same old firmware meaning update didnt get installed. I have tried to reset the head unit via settings, through the small hole and also by removing car battery .. Any help please

I did the update on my mvh 2300nex 2.85 version but what did It do? I was hoping maybe my camera settings would now have the guidance lines available but nothing seems different at all, is it just stability and bug fixes?

I recently got the AVH 2500 nex and I saw that there was a update so I downloaded the update onto my playlist Drive put it in the car and it says "Error please make sure that file is the only data on your usb but when I plug it back into the computer it has the correct folder on the flash drive then it has a folder for data that keeps popping back up. Could it be because I'm using a scan disk USB? If so what brand USB would I need?

ekim andersom I guess you have to have a kill switch on the bypass to be able to trick it? Because it’s not letting me do it
will update remove the test mode bypass?
Or install the bypass during installation of the unit. Five Car stereo has a video on that too.

I had the same issue with the same stereo. He said to put it on source off. It was available as a choice to click on after i put it on source off.

How do you recover from a failed firmware update on a Pioneer MVh-160 Bt? Now the screen only displays "PIONEER"
Idk what has happened to my AVH-2440NEX but my entire audio settings menu is greyed out beside the Mute Level. Obviously, I’m not hearing anything through my speakers. Not even the annoying beep. I know I’m overlooking something here because I know me lol. When it comes to computers, much less my trucks audio/DVD system, I am lost. Any help?

I have the proper firmware update and the USB works , but the firmware update is grey .
Does the drive have to contain only the firmware file ?

Hello Guys, love the video's, big help. Question I have a AVH 5800 and I just bought a Kicker Hidaway sub, I have a pair of Polk 6502 speakers in the front, and they have their own crossover. How do I hook this sub up to the AVH 5800, No directions at all. it just has 2 pair of speaker wires and a power wire !!

Hi guys bought a PIONEER AVH-X5700BHS at the end of 2014 it never worked properly always refreshing problem got worst now it takes long to start up then it will shut down and restart several times before some sort of stability is achieved upgraded firmware recently too 08.50 latest for this model still no improvement whatsoever is there something wrong with this radio there are several very similar almost identical complaints about thIS PIONEER LINE OF RADIOS need some help or advice on what too do.
Good video except for neglecting to tell us to unzip the file and put the unzipped file on the usb stick. My radio doesn’t even let me select software update. It’s greyed out. Tried car on , off, in park with e-break on and off. Not sure what else to try.

What is frustrating to me is that each time I add new music to the thumb drive, it takes longer and longer (days) for the unit to somehow absorb the directory of music. Normally I can click on the folder icons or use my steering wheel controls to advance through each cd or artist. But when it's presumably "reindexing" the music directory, I can't use those features. So all that's left is to scroll through the list to try to manually locate the new music or to move to the next cd. Otherwise, it just repeats the same set of songs on whatever cd was last selected.
What I'd like to know is if there is a trick to getting it to index faster. I took a four hour drive lately and had added new music before I left home. The directory didn't get indexed until late into the return trip, and coincidentally the yellow folder buttons showed up after I had the Head Unit set for radio for awhile. I was wondering if the unit indexes the thumb drive in the background faster when it's not being read from to play music, or something like that. I'll try doing that next time I add music, but I was hoping for some method to get the folder buttons to appear sooner. I have the optional sirius module, but due mostly to the taxes they charge, I never subscribed to the service. They give you the base price which looked acceptable to me, then they add on the artist's commission or taxes or something and it adds nearly 50% to the total monthly bill. I figured I might as well just buy a new album every month and put it on my thum drive...which is what I'm doing, but you see the problem I'm having now. Please let me know if you have a fix. Thx.
Tried updating my AVIC-8200 and failed. Pioneer instructions are lousy and confusing. Downloaded zip file has a folder AVICAVH16 with many files. Is Pioneer saying you place the folder on the USB drive? Big difference between folder and file. Anyhow, after reading the USB drive, 8200 gave an error message that the file is bad or USB is corrupted. USB has System Volume folder that is put there by Windows after I reformatted with FAT32. BTW, use USB port 1 for update.
I have the AVH-2300NEX and right out the box I'm having a problem with the deck reading the lighting cable to where my last Pioneer had no issues with reading the lighting cable. One other thing how do I get Carplay to initiate on this model?

I never had to use USB, my AVH-Z9100DAB updated via my wired phone connection. It prompted me and I said OK, waited and next thing whole interface updated. Now easier to switch between apps on android auto. Might have just been a load of app updates not sure.

Im having a problem with my head unit avh-x8650bt, the usb doesnt resume the song which im playing whenever car is restarted and it starts from one song always and I change the color scheme wallpaper etc but whenever car is started again everything is reset . I tried to update firmware and when update was finished I checked firmware no it was same old firmware meaning update didnt get installed. I have tried to reset the head unit via settings, through the small hole and also by removing car battery .. Any help please

I recently got the AVH 2500 nex and I saw that there was a update so I downloaded the update onto my playlist Drive put it in the car and it says "Error please make sure that file is the only data on your usb but when I plug it back into the computer it has the correct folder on the flash drive then it has a folder for data that keeps popping back up. Could it be because I'm using a scan disk USB? If so what brand USB would I need?
