    The funniest thing is all of you are complaining about the deforestation thing but you're actually the major factor why they plant the palm trees. Malaysia and Indonesia will benefits a lot out of our productivity. Remember, In Malaysia we are not set the fire to the forest. Sorry for the bad English.

    Palm Oil is the biggest vegetable oil commodity from Indonesia. We have to admit it. And we cannot stop it.
    Planters, small holders, company, and government must be working together to make this business sustainable for the people and planet earth.

    Indonesia have more than 30% reserves forest while in Europe, there have only less than 18% forest. So, who make the first destruction to animals in local geography habitats???
    Not to mentions the USA and Canada, Brazil, Columbia etc. Human was invaded the forest to make oil products such as corn oil, coconut oil, olive oil etc.
    Did they do not deforesting the forest before they planting such plants?? How about urbanization??? New York, Tokyo, London, Washington, Denver, Venice etc, they deforested the million of hectares of jungle and of course killing the habitats of the animals. WWF will not using PANDA as their organisation logo if China do not deforesting to make big cities, yet, skeptical accuses still going towards Indonesia and Malaysia as the biggest palm oil productions. Orangutans is not the only habitats that living in this world.

    You know why they started issues about this? the truth is because palm oil is very productive, the palm oil productivity is 3 tones/hectare but it's only can be produced by tropical countries whereas the similar material can be made from corn/beans which only have 0.8 tones productivity/ hectare that put all non tropical nations in major disadvantages.

      @@illumiNOTme326 He is correct, a hectare produces more oil in case of the palm oil. *But you are missing the point of this video. The problem is that those palm oil producers (from Indonesia and a few more countries) are destroying the trees / the forest to plant more palm trees to produce more palm oil so they make more money by selling the palm oil to Europe/US/etc. Basically by removing the forests for palm trees, they are destroying the planet just for money.* What the video shows is that the palm oil should be grown and harvested only on the hectares they already have, not destroying forests and forests, trees and trees to plant more palm trees.

While the legitimacy of representativenes transparency and monitoring is on a medium level, the legitimacy on equality, sanctioning and acceptance is very weak. 1 hectare of oil palm plantation is able to produce up to 10 times more oil than other oilseed crop. In 1 hectare of land, soybean produce 0.4mt oil, sunflower produce 0.6mt oil, rapeseed produce 0.8mt oil & oil palm produce 3.9mt oil per year. Among the 10 major oilseeds, oil palm accounted for 5.5% of global land use for cultivation, but produced 32.0% of global oils and fats output. Meanwhile soybean required 40.1% cultivation land to produce 22.4% of global oils and fats output. Soybean, sunflower & rapeseed, u have to plant it annually. oil palm, u plant and u harvest for 25 years, u replant it after 25 years. Oil palm is the most efficient oilseed crop in the world.

    The problem is there is far too much corruption in Palm oil producing countries ; Indonesia, Ghana , Malaysia etc . No point in having more legislation to control illegal deforestation by the oil palm companies as they will just pay-off officials / politician to turn a blind eye. The responsibility is with consumers who must know which products contain palm oil and either refuse to use them or look for alternatives. Tragic / funny that the cure for the next global mass killer pandemic is probably in the forests being clear cut , just so we can have a cheaper margarine or lip-stick.

  • @vultan2000
    @vultan2000 6 років тому +1

    All the comments about the West forcing controls on poor Pam oil producers are missing the point. It is western consumers who drive the demand for deforestation and palm oil production. Just look up how many products on supermarket shelves contain palm oil. What this certification does is let the consumer choose products that eliminate the harmful destruction of valuable forest ecosystems while providing a living wage for the responsible farmers. It basically means that if you are willing to pay a bit more in the store you can help farmers provide for themselves and their families while moving away from destructive practices. Rainforests are massive carbon sinks. If you been affected by flooding, excessive high temperatures or other extreme weather you have felt the affects of destroying the rainforests.

    The palm oil is not the problem, the problem is the deforestation and the lack of environmentally sustainable projects, but this issues may happen with every single massive agricultural project (needed by civilzation) to produce any product which its raw material is cultivated .
    So, when you buy palm oil products at the market, you may or may not contribute with the problem, the best way to know would be making a research about its origins or to take a look to the certifications it might have.

      One day petroleum will run out so it can be replaced with renewable B100% CPO energy.

I guess they also want to be part of the group that goes to Africa steals something and claim as their own, I. e. "European chocolate." It is wonderful that we Africans are not so greedy like most non African nations we value our environment and respect every being. It is only foreigners who come in steal resources and cause destruction. It doesn't help that most of African countries have uneducated narrow minded leaders. With millions of hectares of arable land left abandoned - oil palm plantations maybe a sustainable agri-industry that is welcome. We would love to get small farmers and large corporations from Indonesia and Malaysia to invest here in Guyana. Any takers?

    Why do we need palm oil to begin with? This video is endorsed by W.W.F. In a way, I'm torn apart. I will look to ban palm oil period.

      Maybe is healthier? It's easier to be harvested per hectare. The problem is not the palm oil itself, the problem is that those people destroy the forests just to plant more and more palm trees.

  • @andychow5509

    Palm oil is the most ecological type of oil. Blame deforestation on people needing to eat, not palm oil. If you have 100 million more people living this year than last year, you need the food to come from somewhere it didn't come from before.

    • @Mihai-zk9ts
      @Mihai-zk9ts 6 років тому +1

    @healerdream mhm Palm oil was never needed in the past and its not needed now, they can leave those tree's alone. I certainly don't need that oil. I am Vegan, most of what I eat doesn't have palm oil in it, and if it does? its incredibly rare.

    Indonesia's forest are burning right now. The fires caused deadly haze which made Indonesia's skies red. The haze has also reached different cities in neighboring countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam and more. Schools are being shut down. Orangutans are dying in Indonesia.
    We have to stop using palm oil or we have to make palm oil production sustainable. We have to call on governments and companies. Each of us should change. We can still change ourselves. We have to act now. It's for our future.

    yall should learn and compare the oil production, yield, and total land used for the cultivation between palm oil and the other oil producing plants, palm oil is much more healthier for the environment than another oil producing plant, if you really want to save the environment please do thorough search, stop cherry picking news and blame another country

    Unless its sustainable palm oil that a company is making/using, its not allowed. It does not matter whether they need unsustainable palm oil to stay out of poverty, thats no excuse, there is no excuse for killing innocent creatures and burning and chopping their homes down, thats murder. End of.

    There is no such thing as "demand" when it comes to palm oil, at least not from consumers. They just buy what they see in the supermarkets. If it's the cheapest thing, they'll buy that. When organic, natural and healthy is priced 10$ and things containing palm oil are priced 1$ and are everywhere, your choice will be made soon enough.
    It's fucking cheap and it's everywhere, that's the problem. However, in the long run it's the most expensive thing to keep doing for the sake of all.

    yess I am Indonesian and I am disappointed with my country which allows the cultivation of very large oil palm. thus making many animals and plants have no place to live. I am very concerned about what is happening in my country that makes a big negative impact for the whole world. But indonesia also give positive impact that all product we can use every day contain palm oil and most of lokal employee can get money to feed their children and wive.but yah I hope we can choose a better things than this (palm oil)

My group africa palm and Crop (Available on twitter and facebook) for exemple supports WWF and plans to grow sustainable palm oil that is Ecological Palm Oil (EPO). We fight environment disasters and will contribute to stop them.

    It is vital to Our environment to support WWF in its actions for sustainable palm oil and environment protection in order to save future generations. They need to inherit an environment that must feed them too!!! Il faut soutenir WWF dans son combat environmental et d'adoption de palmier à huile durable pour sauver l'environnement car les générations futures doivent hériter d'un environnement qui doit les nourrir aussi!!!

    west and Europe do not want to see growth of Indonesia. Tea cultivation also create problem in India, and cause of deforestation, why they are collecting revenue then. the main problem is , money which is hard earned by Indonesian farmer and they do not have to pay them. keep growing Indonesia.

      The roundtable is controlled by Europeans in order to control the asian and african oil industry anyway. Fact: You really believe the lie that the rainforest is dying at 1 football field per second by palm oil(according to the WWF). Yet other activists say 13 football fields per minute, and others come up with other numbers and statistics. These statistics are all FAKE! So which dumbass is counting "1 football field 1 second, 2 football field 2 second,.." and the "sole cause is palm oil"? These stats are all MADE UP! What about timber trade, farming, paper, construction, development? Let's ban construction and timber furniture too shall we? Recently the african palm oil industry sued French retailer for using these made up stats to smear palm oil's name, guess what, the Africans won, because the court ruled that these biological statistics by the activists are UNRELIABLE !
