He’s literally a brain with matter manipulation limited to the immediate space around him and any extension of his self left on a planet. Half of the abilities shown we don’t see him do outside of his own body (The planet is his body) so we can only assume he can’t do it anywhere else. We also gotta remember that the body we see walking and talking with Starlord and interacting with his mom isn’t actually him, but a much weaker extension. I really wish they build up to him more. Imagine we have a smaller threat in the second GoG movie but then throughout the movie Quill learns to harness some of his forgot powers more and more until the at the end of the movie he ends up saving the galaxy again due to these powers. All while continuing development on his relationship with Gamora. The 3rd movie is finally the breaking point where he goes and meets he father and the he realizes he does not need these special powers sacrificing his immortality for the galaxy. That would have made the story arch so much more worth while. The first movie we are introduced to Peter as a kid taken at the worst time. Just lost his entire family. He gets a family back with the guardians. Realizes there is more to this story in the 2nd and gets interested in finding his Dad. The events of the 3rd movie would be incredible with him finally realizing that Yondu was his true father figure with him sacrificing himself. Finally gaining some brains to maybe and becoming a little more responsible for the events of Endgame where he was so ass.
His powers are actually the powers all conscious entities possess, dormant or reclaimed. The difference with them is they had no physical form. They were just a kind and an awareness. They moved as energy, and used it to stich together the atoms around them. We however were born with form, and never once tried to practice these abilities. No need to. That, and mere disbelief limited our awareness of such abilities. I'm not quite there yet but I have learned to touch with the energy inside me. Kinda neat but still lv 1 stuff. Someday however I'll demonstrate greater ability to the world to force shift the paradigm.
