Australia v Scotland - Match Highlights - Rugby World Cup 2015

- Scotland, shouldering the slender hopes and dreams of the northern hemisphere, had their hearts broken by a last-minute penalty from Australia's Bernard Foley to bow out of RWC 2015 in an agonising 35-34 defeat at Twickenham on Sunday.
Just six minutes earlier Scotland centre Mark Bennett had latched on to a horror pass by Wallaby replacement prop James Slipper to race in under the posts. Greig Laidlaw's conversion then gave Vern Cotter's battling team a 34-32 lead, and started the Scots dreaming of a first World Cup semi-final appearance since 1991.
Scotland gave their all and, buoyed by 19 points from the punishing boot of Laidlaw, can count themselves desperately unlucky.
It was the Wallabies, feasting off some early front-foot ball, who took the lead after eight minutes of a pulsating contest when centre Tevita Kuridrani broke Tommy Seymour’s attempted tackle to put wing Adam Ashley-Cooper diving over in the right-hand corner.
Scotland surged back into the Australian half and Laidlaw reduced the deficit to two points with a penalty after Wallabies’ flanker Scott Fardy was penalised.
The Scots grew in confidence after Laidlaw’s three-pointer and the Wallabies were rocked further back on their heels when centre Peter Horne crossed underneath the posts after picking the ball up a ruck and racing over unopposed. Laidlaw added the conversion for a 10-5 lead.
Australia were clearly rattled and, when Scotland turned the screw at a scrum - loosehead Scott Sio was penalised for collapsing under pressure from WP Nel - Laidlaw stepped up to land the penalty and make it 13-5 with 25 minutes played.
Scotland were excellent value for their lead but Australia underlined their potency with the ball in hand to reduce the deficit to three points after 30 minutes with a try by left wing Drew Mitchell, after Sio and Kane Douglas made the initial dents in the Scottish defence.
Another penalty by Laidlaw, after more pressure on the Australian scrum, put Scotland 16-10 ahead on 33 minutes before the Wallabies struck on the stroke of half-time to make it 16-15 through Michael Hooper.
The Wallabies scored immediately after the break when Scotland wing Sean Maitland was adjudged to have deliberately knocked on and sent to the sin bin. Mitchell dived over from the ensuing lineout for his second try of the match and Foley at last found his range to put Australia in front 22-16.

As an italian rugby fan, i've always sympathize with Scotland rugby team, since it's the only team that Italy can ( sometimes ) reach in 6 nations tournament. And today i've strongly supported the Scotland team against Australia. It was an awesome match for you, and i've sweared, like only an italian man can do, when the final kick was given against you. Great job, and good luck to this brave team, from Italy.
+ilbacato Grazie!
thank you my friend
+ilbacato Mi Chiamo Giorgio :)
+Mac King You made absolutely no sense.
in other words Australia were beaten by Scotland and robbed by the stupid ref everyone knows that make sense now
It’s 2022 and as a Scot this still kills me.
Same
I'm English and this still annoys me. It was absolute bullshit.
Cueto/Tait try, there you go you have some sort of the same thing translated into English. But yes, this to my mind is a worse injustice.
I mean I'm not a Scot, but I will remember this injustice to my dying day
I watch this when I need to cry 🏴
Here! 5/3/21
Why do you need to cry is my question
The ridiculous 10 minute "sin-bin",for an UNINTENTIONAL knock on (ball to hand not hand to ball) was what turned the game(48 min).+The very very late tackle on Hogg was totally ignored and the decision at the end should have been a scrum for a Knock-on and never a penalty! That stupid corrupt ref!
+gmaccruyff55 I dont get how things like this can still go unanswered and sway a game. Its srsly messed up!
+gmaccruyff55 an unintentional knock on...yeah because when you stick one hand out and don't even bother to try and chase the hit you're clearly not intending to interfere with play whatsoever! LOL
Green Goat yeah apparently NH teams are used to never ever having their teams penalised ever from the sound of these Scottish fans.
+gmaccruyff55 if a player stops a pass by knocing it down, its a professional foul which is a yellow. the only way it is not, is they are making a genuine intercept attempt.
+alternativebassist and the way they booed Stephen Moore giving his speech at the end was the icing on the cake, Jesus be mad a the ref (who made the right call) if you want, but that got nothing to do with the Captain giving a speech at full time. so pathetic.
4 Months on and Im still pissed with this game. They later declared, through thoroughly reviewing the replays, that it wasnt a penalty. I guess it wasnt mean to be. But I was really hoping to see either Scotland or Argentina make their first RWC final, would have done a lot for the game if that were the case.
Proud Kiwi 4 years on and I’m still pissed
haha
Ur so right the Scots were completely robbed even if they say it wasn’t a penalty after that means nothing to what the final score was
4 years on I'm still pissed
Bro, i feel you
As a Wallabies fan, commiserations to Scotland who played with heart. I will admit that I am very happy with the win, but embarrassed on how we won. Joubert's call at the end was wrong, it should have been our scrum and the yellow card was harsh.
Please don't think us Australians like Joubert, prior to this game many were saying him and Quade Cooper (who didn't come on thankfully) would lead us to a loss. I feel your pain Scottish fans, this has happened to us many times, but please don't throw insults to our team. They took the chance they were given, you can't blame us for that.
+utuber5055 You are one of the few aussies that I don't want to punch right now! Im scottish born and bred but I've been in NZ since i was 10, so not only am I annoyed that the Scots got cheated, but also annoyed that the Wallabies won!
Its nice to see an Aussie realising that they did not deserve that penalty.
***** If he didn't call that penalty, we still would have had a chance to score points off a scrum. Whether we would have won will remain a mystery.
Heather McCreight I like seeing the Wallabies win, but hate it when its under controversial circumstances. You've been "Jouberted" which is what I like to say when Joubert wrongly influences a result, and trust me, the Wallabies have been Jouberted many times so I understand the pain going through Scotland fans - and rightly so!
+solidgoldstan Thanks mate! I just hope there isn't any more controversial decisions. It's exhausting!
+solidgoldstan they are paid not to make mistakes and they added TMO just to help them out... ???? so ahhhh ref should be fired ...
Anyways.. ABs will win world cup... lmao
solidgoldstan Agree. But honestly, Joubert has had way too many controversial games in his career. I don't think he is up to knock-out rugby anymore. Such a shame an exciting game had to end like that. Anyway, good luck in the six nations next year, beat England for us.
As an Argentinian fan, let me tell you Scotish fans: I know exactly how you feel. We always suffer these kind of "referee misunderstandings", specially against the All Blacks or any anglo-saxon team. However Australia is a very tough team. Congrats to them and I'm really sad about Scotland who played a really good rugby and also deserved the victory. Vamos Pumaaaaaas !!!!
Anglo Saxon equals England
what a game of rugby, well played scotland, ref was a joke
+smiffer71 hes south african....what do you expect
+Johan Jacobs yeah like your loss to Japan hahahaha
just saying hahah south africa are known for cheating
+OpalSnr New Zealand are the biggest cheats and Aus in the 2011 quarterts, jesus christ.
+Bradley Cairns hahaha nz biggest cheats vs aus 2011 really? so that poor game contributed by the wallabies never happened all the kicks out on the full the knock ons? really?
As a Scotland supporter, this was devastating. Was watching the game from the behind the bar at work, very busy shift, obvs loads of Aussies and Scots in.
To make the loss even worse, I had to then serve a load of Australians champagne after the game. Heartbreaking. 💔
One of the best match of rugby I've ever seen. I remember it 5 years after.
I love the sound at 2:34
robbery, Scotland deserves to win !!!! great Scottish team, greetings from Argentina
+ene ene nadie Australia gave 2 tries for free and Australia had 5 tries whilst Scotland had 3. Australia played the worst that they had in ages and yet Scotland has less of the ball, and less tries...
+oaklandpaving You support giving Argentina Falkland Islands all of a sudden, a subject I'm going to go out on a limb on and say you know pretty much nothing about whats going on with it, because some guy said greetings from Argentina... Alrite m8...
+ene ene nadie learn the rules of the game before you drop the salt shaker thx kiddo
+Arden Macbeth And Scotland didn't gift the Aussies any tries? Tommy Seymour's missed tackle on Kuridrani for the first one was about as big a gift as any. And as for the wide open space on the Scottish right wing that Joubert gifted you for the fourth? And before you start about the try scoring chances Australia butchered or kicks at goal they missed, don't forget that Mark Bennet dropped an easy catch for a two on one run in the first half, and Laidlaw missed a conversion after Seymour's try which, my his standards on the day, was kickable. Finally, before you play the charity card again, never forget it was Scotland who gifted Joubert the chance to make his awful error and gift Australia the game. By the way, no hard feelings if the boot was on the other foot we would have done exactly the same.
***** The game against the scots was by far our worse in the RWC. Our form outside of that and the Fiji game we can actually have a chance against em
Well done Scotland's! Best from Nord. Loads of respect from Romania!
+Patronat Iluminat Multumesc from Glasgow!
+gmaccruyff55 Whit?
+Numpty Its Romanain for "Thank you"
gmaccruyff55 Thank you I'm wiser now:-)
+Numpty Nae borra p.s. Change that name ya numpty!
As an Englishman watching that game with no axe to grind, I simply cannot believe that final penalty call. I don't think you'll ever see him ref an important match again. Utter disgrace which ruined an absolutely fantastic match to watch.
+David Beard I agree with you David.....appalling decision that cannot be justified by the rulebook in any way shape or form.
+Franky Bell and just before that a scottish player was taken out after he got the ball away and it was ignored linesman must have seen it as well at times refs seem to favour the favourite team in any match many decisions are a bit odd
as a scots im glad we lost.
+David Beard
After he disgraced himself with his incompetent display in the 2011 RWC you'd think he'd have been dropped from games like this but goodness knows how they decide these things - the man has a history of being useless.
+Elkanah Haon He is dropped!
I was torn. Being Aussie, I was willing my Wallabies to get over the line, but not happy to see it end the way it did. It was good that the Wallabies got into the World Cup (We had a pretty rotten year the year after), but I just felt so much for Scotland. A good match ended by a bad refereeing decision.
Me too because then everyone calls us cheats
Thank God you can't even buy a win now it's karma😂
Scotland the Brave, what an effort, lost the game in a cruel twist! Loads of Respect.
How is it that this 'highlights' video has missed the real highlight of the game? The pathetic sight of that useless coward Craig Joubert sprinting off the pitch as soon as he ended the game? Absolutely despicable display from the referee.
+Elkanah Haon Agreed!
+Elkanah Haon Indeed. He ran off to spend all that money he got bribed with.
+Elkanah Haon Mate that is uncalled for , the ref made the right call I know it's a tough one but he got it right. Anyway this was nothing more than a tune up for the Wallabies, they will peak in the finals against the AB.
+Josh Dugan No, he didn't - the replay showed that quite clearly. Regardless of the validity of the call - and pretty much every single non Australian whether they are a pundit, ex-player or fan, said he had a shocker - his sprint off the pitch at the end was despicable behaviour and absolutely inexcusable.
Elkanah Haon
Well I thought the ref had a great game , anyway Scotland only have themselves to blame , 80 seconds left up by 2 and they can't even win their own line out which the Aussies didn't even contest. Bottom line Aus. deserved to win .
Scotland should have won this game!
+Brian Lorne lol, always the fault of someone else. Do you need any help, that chip on your shoulder must take some carrying? :-)
+Give them another referendum Yeah, did you watch this game? How about you take your green and gold blindfold off.
scotland showed courage and definetely deserved to win in my opinion
+Brian Lorne no they shud not got thrashed
+Chris Hobson Thrashed lol you can't serious?
Australia had 16 men on the pitch, one of them was in white!
+Oliver McCall (wingding341) how many penalty kicks in the match? doesnt matter if its in the last minute or the many scattered through the other 79 minutes. Australia scored 5 tries, Scotland 5 penalty kicks. Dont whinge because of 1 penalty kick against scotland.
+fredfinks One penalty kick lol. You do know that penalty kick decided a match, right????????? It DECIDED A MATCH. Of course people are gonna be angry about it. Its like saying oh well, it was just one bullet which killed JFK, so what? But that ONE bullet changed the whole of the USA.
+Bradley Cairns And America still hasnt learned anything at all about guns.
+Ben King hahahahahhaha
+Ben King True
the last penalty is really fake, scots tank you bro, great cup! from Argentina.
SH traitor. Lol
+sirwallaby Dan Fox is saxon name, he is an infiltrate haha..
Fox, Dan Fox 007
good wishes to all scotland players and fans.what a game.
the yellow card was the difference.good luck and i am proud of you.
greetings from Meijel (Netherlands)
Didnt deserve to win
+Kieran Mazurek 3 tries beats 5
+Kieran Mazurek 5 tries to 3, two of Scotlands tries were gifted to them. Scotland certainly didnt deserve to win. Its sad when a team has to win a match by kicking alone, this is Rugby not football afterall.
+big .one 'kicking alone' - we still scored 3 tries and were down to 14 men for 10 minutes (which was an absurd call from the ref). The cheating ozzies at the end shouting 'offside' at Craig Joubert at the end was only reason he gave the penalty. Ref was against us the whole game as well. Ozzies were scrappy, it was Scotland's game.
+aa751001 I am an Aussie. I feel sorry for the Scots. I was not expecting to see it that close.
+1969cmp yeah it was a brilliant game of rugby. What a World Cup it's been
New Zealand has this world cup in the bag after this result!
Agony for Scotland, cheated at the death! An underserved win for Australia
+Iwan Lewis I love you
thank you
5 tries to 3 I guess is undeserved.
+Mark A since when was it about the tries if it was then there would be no kicks, the fact is that Scotland got into attacking positions to get those points and it is a legit way of winning games
+Mark A They attacked well at times but they really did do some stupid mistakes. They will have to play better against the Pumas.
+Iwan Lewis The win was deserved, how about you step out on a field and throw your body around like those guys do for 80 mins? It was definitely deserved by either team, just the luck of the whistle instead of the luck of the bounce went Aussies way today.
amazing game , maybe the best quarter final game in the history , really excelent , well done australia , now vs my country!
Greetings from Georgia to Scots! Well played and an unfair loss... The ref really was a joke...
Sometimes I think, and I keep saying that if he did not charge this penalty to Scotland, Los Pumas had a great chance to beat them in the semifinals, and move on to the final to face each other again against the All Blacks. Scotland deserved to win, it was unfortunate the referee's decision at that time. My respect for Scottish rugby from Tucumán-Argentina.
After Scotland beat England at the weekend for the first time in 10 years I have finally faced my fears of watching the highlights of this match after 2 years and my it still hurts. Our chance
It is sad that all the European teams were knocked out. Besides, would have been nice to see Scotland being the only team representing the 6 Nations in the WC. This game was so emotional and Scotland deserved the win. Apparently, corruption isn't only a football thing..
Southern hemisphere pride 🙌
Pride in the final aye ;)
I'm Australian and I don't really watch this sport but it looked like Scotland deserved to win that game. Best of luck to them for the rest of the tournament! Bad luck!
Yea i hope they do well! Their supporters deserve a good tournament! :)
Lol your not Australian, must be an undercover Irish trying to make other Nations root for Ireland. Stop being a sore loser. You lost, get over it.
As an Australian, I'll admit that last call was a rough one. But I would say that the unsportsmanlike response in the northern media and some fans, has done more to cast rugby in a poor light than anything Joubert could do. Myself, (and the Scottish ITV commentator), thought Australia copped a rough scrum penalty or two earlier in the match, but as he said at the time, 'you always take what you get'. Refs are human, and he could not go to the replay.
On another note, I honestly hope that this will be the start of a bright period for Scotland. I love to see them doing well... more so when it's not against us!
As a welsh man I know how u feel Scotland, We had games taken away from us in the last few minutes too it sucks !!!.. Australia always seems to come back at the last moment, Great game tho you played great ..
Australia were robbed of a try regarding Ashley-Cooper so the final penalty evened things up a bit. The Scots largely lived of intercept tries ("The easy way" according to ex-Wallaby coach Bob Dwyer) and poor Wallaby goal kicking. Let us remember that Australia had a territorial dominance of 62% and possession advantage of 55% at the end of the match. The Scots were forced to make almost twice as many tackles as their Australian counterparts.
Magnificent opportunism and stoicism from the Scottish team however.
+boris yeltsin totally agree Scotland had less possession, less territory, less tries 5-3, two tries were gifted to them,
home crowd support, even the conditions near the end favoured the Scots and they complain they should have won LMFAO, this is Rugby not Football, games should be won by tries not with the boot.
+big .one No, according to the Australians, matches are won by bad refereeing decisions!
+boris yeltsin It's not about possesion or territory, but what you do with the ball when you get chances. Scotland came away with points when they had opportunities, and why they deserved to be in front most of the game!
+boris yeltsin
"Australia were robbed of a try regarding Ashley-Cooper"
No, they weren't. The decision against Ashley-Cooper was correct. The decision to award the final penalty was incorrect. They do not 'even out'.
+Elkanah Haon jones try for scotland should of been called back he wasnt the last man in the ruck. samoa fid the same thing to SA and it was called back for offside
I'm Aussie and as glad as I am that we are through to the next round we didn't deserve to win that game.
I cannot imagine this Australia beating Argentina. Right now, Pumas are in better shape mentally but specially a lot more motivated from the heart. I believe is gonna be a match to remember. Can't wait!
2015 rugby world cup was best rugby world cup ever that's held in England
Final score:
The Referee 35 Scotland 34
It's September 2021 and I still watch this often to remind myself that Scotland are a better team than the Wallabies. So disappointing.
2011 Aus controversial win over SA to advance
2015 Aus controversial win over Scotland to advance
2019 Aus Controversial win over __________ to advance.
Calling it now!
+Dean Hendricks Scotlands controversial win over Samoa to advance, bad decisions even themselves out in the end. Scotland dont advance. calling it as it is.
Still a bit gutted by this so close yet so far. To those saying we scored lucky tries, the amount of times since last 6 nations we have scored interceptions and charge downs is silly. It's not luck when you do it so often, thats just good pressure. As well as that though, we have lost so many times in that same period by 7 or less that it is ridiculous. We have a very young team and we need to learn how to close games out and become a relevant team in World Rugby again. Thanks for a great RWC Scotland, you did us proud! #AsOne
That was Scotland's World Cup ruined by Joubert.
Is that actually coming from an Englishman? 🤭
and that was the penalty that eliminated scottland and argentina too
Cracking RWC QF. Shame Scotland threw it away by failing to secure that last line out. Technically the Scottish player was offside when he handled it, so can't blame Joubert for giving it.
Much has been made here in Samoa about the injustices of the reffing system that has gone on in this otherwise fantastic RWC, regarding some dubious calls that went both ways in our match with the Scots, and the comments elsewhere from supporters of the Scottish team were that Samoa weren't good enough, as there were penalties that weren't awarded to the Scots too. That is fair enough, and we've sort of just...moved on from it and accepted out fate...BUT the national uproar and the headhunting vitriol that is currently being thrown Joubert's way....woooooow. Repeat after me...ITS JUST A GAME. YOU WIN SOME, YOU LOSE SOME. Don't be sore losers about it.
+david Unoi The Law is a farce, unless applied correctly! WS were fantastic in this tourney.
+gmaccruyff55 WS?
Western Samoa
Not Western Samoa anymore
+LLV Apologises, in 1997 it changed to Samoa! Still a fantastic team to watch team,Very entertaining!
This has to be the most thrilling rugby game I've ever seen. Such a shame for the Scots. I really wanted them to win.
Joubert should honestly quit. Robbed Crusaders's Super Rugby title in 2014 and now this...
It was NO PENALTY KICK, the Aussie had his hands on the ball, then the ball went onto the Scot's back and only then the nr.18 Scot played it. From what I know, a ball bouncing off the back of a player who never had possession of that ball IS NOT A KNOCK-ON. Hence the nr.18 Scot was onside and NO PENALTY KICK. The ref robbed the Scots of their World Cup Semifinal.
+cs chaka Could not agree with you more!
shut up we won.
+False Trinity Doctrine But will you win the World Cup? If you keep playing like this, you might not even show up to face New Zealand in a the final. Still, I think New Zealand will defend their title this World Cup.
Rene Pointon question is. Have you won the cup? Im kiwi-Australian so its win win for me ahaha!
False Trinity Doctrine I'm Kiwi, and rooting for them all the way. Nice job on Argentina.
As an Australian, this hurt to watch.
Thats BS, that was Scotlands game, that South African ref should be banned!! What a tosser call that was!
+TheFunkhouser Spot on!
nah mate. as an aussie was the best game bro
+False Trinity Doctrine How many caps has Joubert got for Australia?
Oliver McCall the more the merrier.
+False Trinity Doctrine Its obvious you are Aussie. I bet Pocock could go and stab a Scottish player with a knife and Aussies will still say Pocock was right by doing so.
Usually expect Scotland to fail. Countless times at murrayfield in the rain getting bested because of lack of effort. This year was different, the team showed true spirit and I think would've deserved to win had that bogus decision not been given. Shite to go out, but I'm proud it was in a manner where we gave our all.
Was also at Hampden when Poland got that 94th min equaliser. Not really been our year sportswise, but I reckon we'll come back stronger.
Great work scots..u guys deserve it,Bad luck
Denver Gavin i
Who could imagine BEST 4 of this RUGBY WC (NZ-SA and AU-AR) all of them from the southern hemisphere, BRAVO!!
Scotland deserved more, bad referee caused Scotland defeat, but we'll played Scotland
The match of the tournament so far. A valiant effort, Scotland. To go from the wooden spoon at the 6 Nations to this was an incredible achievement.
As rugby fans, let's celebrate that fact and leave out any animosity towards the referee if we disagree with his decision. Craig Joubert is a world class official and had no interest in either team winning. Let's not bring ourselves down to the level of football fans.
As my old Dad used to say: "Head down, yes Sir and play on".
Even as an Aussie Wallabies supporter, I couldn't be excited or thrilled at the 80 minute mark. It left me thinking did we deserve to progress.
The Wallabies were sloppy at times and Scotland made us pay.
Their forwards drove hard and direct, they battered what was a solid Aussie scrum and the constant pressure was telling on the Wallabies.
We scraped into the semi's but won't progress any further without much improvement.
Whilst the Scots didn't progress, this team has a bright future.
Well played.
+Mark A Scotland played more as a team! Australia played more like on there own?! Scotland had pressured Australia through all the second half!
+Kieran Mazurek yes you might be correct, Scotland played more as a team. But this is rugby, not football where tries should win you the game. Some teams may have gone for the points at the end of the first half rather than the lineout
+Kieran Mazurek But Australia's 5 tries came from teamwork, and Scotland's 3 tries from individual brilliance?
+Kieran Mazurek did you not see the mauls? where the wallibies forwards pushed over the line...twice? and how they spread the ball to the wing as a team?
+Kieran Mazurek Yet they still lost despite the tries we gifted them.
+Frank White Aussies cannot even respect the Scots for taking on a big nation. You didn't gift tries scotland earned them. It is like saying france gifted tries to NZ. Nz didn't play well(which they did play well) it was just France gifted them tries.
A try is a try, doesn't matter how it comes.
Everyone's saying Scotland are being bad losers but in the post match interviews Cotter,Laidlaw,Bennett and others didn't criticise the ref despite being great controversaty.Imagine if u were in the Scottish team u wouldn't get a nights sleep ages we've never got to the semis imagine what it would have felt like for us #proudtobescottish
All of the Aussie supporters hating on us Scottish for being sore losers really you are just sore winners (I don't know if that is a thing but oh well) as you should be supporting us for losing a game that was clearly robbed from us and if you do not believe that then just look on UA-cam and there are action replays showing it was actually a Scotland penalty! And also Aussies if you had lost the game you would be exactly like us
if you play against nz like that you might as well come home now...
The sending off of Maitland ( for nothing) directly led to a wallabies try. Joubert should never take charge of international fixtures again.
Another shamefull performance by Craig Joubert, he should never referee at this level...this was as shamefull as his wracking of France in 2011. And what to say to his evacuation off the field, as 2 proud teams stood the ground....Joubert is a black spot of thus wounderfull game
Well done Scotland. I was cheering for you! From Serbia.
Well done the Wallabies, went in to that game with injuries and still come out on top. Yes there was some mistakes but that will build character for next week. Let's go all the way.....
+Potaka79 lel you deserved that win as much as the linesman
Thats not a achievememt. Please you should easily beat the Scots even with 2 injuries. I would be impressive of you beat a team like Wales or South Africa with injuries.
+Potaka79 Let's face it you can't go wrong if you have the ref on your side a different ref and your FK'd:-)
+Numpty We have the worst record with Joubert. We dislike him as much as Scotland do.
+WallabyWay your saying he sides with Australia when we lost our semi final place wtf are you talking about
Aussies were lucky. Wouldn't say they are as good as previous years. Same goes for SA. As for NZ, they are a different class and improve every year... Might as well put their name on the trophy now.
+Jay Jay AUS beat AB and won the rugby championship. dont get ahead of yourself.
Lemon Meringue What's your point? You are not as good as you used to be and you can't deny it. If Scotland beat you today, they wouldn't be claiming to be better than you. The All Blacks are twice the team you are, regardless.
+Lemon Meringue ...and the All blacks destroyed the wallabies in the follow up for the Bledisloe cup :)
xKerzah 81 Means nothing mate, the Aussies are clearly the best in the World.... beat Wales' B-Team after being camped in their own 22 for huge parts of the game and that win against the scots was world class ;) (Sarcasm)
***** No doubt both are good teams, but I'm just saying what the world is thinking. I wish Rugby League was big in Wales! I used to play for the under 14's when I was young.
That in the end was not a penalty! Why didn't they TMO'd it ?
+Maceta because they cant
Not allowed to.
The Wallabies did NOT deserve that last minute penalty. Should've been a scrum at least!
I'm a Scotland fan, and although overall the Wallabies are a far better team than us, we deserved to win this game. The worst thing about the ref, is although anyone can make a mistake even though it was an awful mistake, cowardly ran off at the end. Oh well, well played both teams and bring on England in February!
Australia no. 1 :)
+Bris Vegas I like your optimism youll need it if you want to see the Aussies lift the trophy!
+Bris Vegas
no. 1 + 1 now.
2 Year’s on and this is still hard for me to watch as an Australian
Looks like a pretty good call to me.. Knocked on by the scots, and #18 grabs the ball and dives on it. He was offside, and grabbed it after it was knocked on.
+Luca Bacigalupo Was knocked on first by Australia and even if it wasnt that offside offense isnt a penalty its a scrum.
+David Macadam Absolutely correct.
It was knocked on by a scot then a aussie touched it first, once a aussie touches a knocked on ball from scotland then Its knock on advantage, therefore when it is knock on advantage, there Is no more offside. If scotland gets the ball back after knock on advantage like Strauss then it is suppose to be a scrum to Australia.
Scotland played their hearts out and benefitted from some missed kicks. It was close with a devastating decision at the end. But the Australians are a class team and the stroke of luck just didn't edge us through. Great performance Scotland and let's win the 6 nations!
A game where Australia were directly responsible for all 8 tries
Spectacular match
Scotland should have won that
this game is the most frustrating one that ive watch so far in the RWC 2015
I'm not even surprised to see that it is Craig Joubert. He made the same thing in worse in final 2011. I still remember it, 10 years ago...
I'm japanese rugby fan.The game was breathtaking. And the result is, for me , convincing. In that situation there's no point in criticising ref. millions things are happening and millions judges are made in the field. some judges go for or against either side.
Wallabiees are deserving winner considering scots's all try were fluke(sorry for this expression) despite ozi's made 5 beautiful text-book tries. People should look at the whole game instead of focusing on one miss judge even if it was game-deciding.
Japan should have been in the quarters anyway, Samoa should have beaten Scotland.
+ponmerci marius Even though they had one man advantage?

Yes Laidlaw clearly committed knock-on before his last winning try which was not called by ref.
I'll never forget Craig Joubert running from the pitch at the final whistle! He knew he had stuffed that call up for Scotland :/
referee wot referee, he should have been wearing yellow
What a game so existing to watch , great job to Scotland I hope my team, Argentina can play at this level against Australia.
SCOTS I WAS SUPPORTING FOR YOU AS FOR REAL HIGLANDERS!
THANKS FROM GEORGIAN HIGHLAND!!
Even though Australia played terribly, they still outclassed Scotland in most areas except the scrum and some of the breakdowns. Scotland fans can blame the ref all they want but the fact is refs make bad decisions. There were plenty of bad decisions made against Australia too. Scotland can blame their poor defense for their loss, Australia broke through it at least 8 times. Would never have been put in that position if they played better.
Hard luck Scotland, from a New Zealander. To give Australia a run for their money like that, you guys totally deserved the win, and that last minute offside was unfair, especially when it was so close to call, should have been a Australian feed scrum at most. Again, hard luck :(
go you wallabies! best game of rugby ive ever seen! thank you Scotland!!
Absolutely heart breaking. Would've LOVED to see Scotland in the semi's.
Go the All Blacks!
if you think about it most of Scotland's tries were mistake from the Aussie whilst the wallaby's tries were skill and smart decision overall Australia deserve the win but credits to Scotland showing their potential
grandissima scozia ! che partita
Commiserations to the Scotish and their fans be proud of the team they held their own in this cup. Argentina should take out the Wallabies
To all the haters, let the next game decide weather we were meant to be there or not.
To be honest, you can't really do that, because both Australia and Scotland would probably beat Argentina!
+Oliver McCall (wingding341) yeah, not really sure about that mate
I am a proud welsh man still hurting from our defeat to south Africa but Scotland you have been robbed of a semi final by a coward weak cheating ref and that's got to hurt even more shame on him.

Keep in mind that the Wallabies put up with some harsh scrum penalties during the game as well. All in all the game was very close.
+billywilliams williams Oh come on. The ref gave some poor ones against the wallabies too, and we scored 5 tries to 3. It was only a poor night of kicking by Foley that allowed the game to be so close.
Tough loss for scotland, but there was no robbery. If you let a team score 5 tries on you in a semi, you don't deserve to win. Especially when you have opportunties to press for tries yourself but kick every time.
Cases in point: last few minutes of first half wallabies went for try and scored. Last ten minutes of second half scotland had the option to go for a try but chose to kick.
Had scotland been braver or Australia less brave the scots would have won. Tough cookies.
Well, here comes the rugby championship
+Zachary Stone
For Australia? Did you even see how the All Blacks performed against France?
+David Macadam I watched nz vs France but I'm saying the 4 teams for the semis is the rugby championship
Aaaah.
What a brutal, piece of garbage call by the ref with 2 minutes to go. He should be banned from ever doing a world cup game again. Rugby officials have massive leeway for determining if an infraction is a penalty or just, in this case, a scrum. This was clearly just a scrum. I don't even like Scotland and I want to punch this idiotic excuse for an official right in the mush.
What will never be forgotten is the referee sprinting - and I mean 'sprinting' - off the rugby field immediately after blowing the whistle. He did not pause to shake hands with the players from both teams, and not even with the officials who supported him throughout the match. I don't think this level of disrespect to players and fans have ever been shown at this level of rugby. His performance was questionable throughout and ended in disgrace. Joubert should be sent home on the first available plane and never allowed to referee an international rugby match again. When you consider his refereeingf at the final of the last World Cup, you begin to smell corruption beyond incompetence in the air.
Nothing wrong with the ref...Aus were just too good for them!
I’m sorry Scotland fans but that’s a clear penalty at the end there. I know it’s instinct but he doesn’t have to reach out and grab the ball with both hands. It’s dissimilar to Ken Owens’ accidental offside call for the Lions third test, where the ball just bounces off him with no time to react. The Scottish player here has consciously caught the ball ruining any potential knock on advantage for the Wallabies.
Unlucky Scotland should have won the game. Greetings from Wales.
Could have been a Scotland V New Zealand final if they won that match, imagine the score in that final lol, New Zealand to win by 30+
Honestly I if Scotland won this game I say Argentina would have won the semi final then New Zealand would have won by a big score
Scotland were brave indeed and defied their underdog status.Who knows what may have happened if they went thru and met Argentina? They could have won and qualified for their first ever final and from then on it's all stuff that dreams are made of. Well, this is what knockout rugby is all about and can be quite cruel.(just ask NZ from their 2007 1/4final loss to France).
lucky the ref made that called at the end allowed the best team of the day won.
Tough luck Scotland but you played well and it was a great game. Scotland s clearly getting better and their will be much more victories for Scotland in the future and for every other team now that some of the New Zealand players are retiring soon.
