That is one SWEET squareback. Classic color, nice patina. Some rust treatment on the deep patches, a spritz of LIGHT sky baby blue, some buffage and get her running. She'll make someone a very nice grocery-getter and town runner. Success!!!
Sweet. My uncle used to have an orange squareback. In my neighborhood (over in Europe) there is a VW411 squareback for sale. Talk about rare cars! Almost none on the road these days. All went to the scrapyard.
Great vidio Jason. Like when you wash the car's see all that grime washing off...I use to do detailing so does my heart good to clean in and out! Can't wait till the next one. Best to you Jason!
I also have a white 1868 that is so rusty I have been cutting it up. It has had parts go to a 1970 Fastback a 1964 Notchback, a 1973 Sqaureback & my 2 1969's & also had a a Texas Yellow 1973 in high school.
Whenever I watch somebody wash a car in the freezing cold (not so much here in NE Texas) I gotta fix some hot chocolate. And that's what I'm gonna do right now. The squareback has a lot of promise. Good stuff.
Awesome . I had a ‘67 but I sold it. It was in great condition . Mine still had the pull lever under Dashboard in order to put gas in it and lift the hood up. Should have never sold it . I miss it .
If you want to open the gas filler door, you need to pull the knob below the glove box door, near the passenger side door. Pop outs were standard on squarebacks.
Excellent video Jason :) if want unthaw hose put vinegar to end then hot water on blow the ice and it easy to also won't ruin defrosting faster and yes this 1971 need bath and vaccum up too!
I missed the notification for this video, don't know why but i will post my thoughts anyway. I like those wheels but the back ones may get chewed on the arches so check that before you get too far ahead. The chrome looks good for the most part. I hope you try the cooking foil trick I mentioned a while back, To recap; take the foil, the stuff you put on your turkey, and dip in warm water and rub on the chrome, you can put a little washing up liquid in the water if you like. The foil has a chemical reaction with the chrome and cleans it very well, try it on the headlight covers as they look a bit rough. I have to say that it is not like a re-chrome but almost as good. Take care Jason.👍👍
@@5150mxVW Just the foil dipped in the warm water. The washing up liquid is optional. Believe me I have seen it work. It was used on TV by a British guy, Henry Cole. He dose stuff on UA-cam as well, he's into vintage motor bikes and cars. Do try it Jason. I'm not just saying that because I'm British, it's not a wind up.
I used to hook the M hose to the water heater drain and run hot water to melt the ice. After a wash i would drag the hose up the yard to drain it completely.
I like the Type 3 / Squarebacks. They look more like an "ordinary" car compared to the Beetle. I think the chrome steelies and whitewalls are a nice retro touch. Maybe add body coloured dog dish hub caps to complete the look. Or would that be going a step too far? Looking (listening?) forward to hear this one roar into life.
That is the best and most beautiful VW you've ever had Jay!! It's got daily driver written all over it! Original paint! I had an orange '71 that I drove for many years and I miss it so so much! Great video--be gentle with it!
Just got done working on my truck. Now it's time to watch you work on a VW! The first wash is always so satisfying. And I still love the wheels with the patina and the headlight/window visors. That's a slick looking square back.
The frozen hose brings back fun memories, Couple of days ago one of my hoes was froze for the chicken's water. I was trying to unclog it and all the ice shot out and shot the chickens, scared them. they are running all over the place squawking. Glad to see it's clean. Good luck, love the videos.
I've got a soft spot for that model. Growing up, the two brothers down the street each had one, and we worked on them and rode around in them. One was offered to me for free, but my father would have none of it. He was sure it would become a yard ornament. I should have fought harder for that one. Nice find!
It’s beautiful ! I’m not sure how this works but somehow watching you out there pressure washing in the cold makes it ok for me not to be doing the same. Keep up the good work so I don’t have to !
Everything looks better with a good wash, great video man and really nice car,it's around 40 here in Tennessee and I was out pressure washing my house yesterday lol,got a few good looks from the neighbors,LOL thanks for the video bud
Hello my friend I appreciate the amazing work and content you provide keep up the hard work you do i m out here in Oregon there is lots of old cool vws out here you would injoy.
I was riding with a guy who had a 66 "S" square back. It had a gas heater in the spare tire well. Well, we stopped to make a u turn. Fortunately this happened right next to the fire department. As soon as the car stopped the gas heater burst into flames. Quite exciting. As luck would have it there just happened to be some guys hanging around the fire station and was quick with some fire extinguishers. Not much damage to the car but sadly it changed hands and the engine was removed and put in a shortened bus or truck. I don't remember which. It was the early 80s. I don't know what became of the wagon.
2nd lol btw i have been loving what you do and love this channel have watched this channel on different accounts and at hotels and stuff for 7 years now love the content keep it up
Had one of these with oversized tires and made the mistake of yanking the rear fenders out to gain an inch. There's a rubber seal between the fender and the inside wheel well and it will leak rainwater onto the floor as the tires spin if you pull too hard.
I do like a Square back, I looked at one here in Kenya a month or so ago, but it needed too much work plus spares are horrendously expensive here. I do hope it will be OK to mention my new UA-cam channel, not wanting to upset Jason (please feel free to delete this if it's not appropriate), I have just bought my second Bug (the first was a 1302S back in 1986!). The car was found in multistorey car in the middle of Nairobi, it had sat there for 20 years, was last on the road in 2001. It's a 1969 1500cc car. I've nicknamed her The Grey Ghost. My videos will follow the work we will do on it (a rolling restoration) plus other VW bits + pieces in Kenya. If you like it, please subscribe! Thank you Jason, and all the VW best!
Well not likely you’ll did it with those tires but it should roll better this way.Really like this square back growing up my buddies father had one until he traded it for a 411 wagon.
It’s nice to see people buying these old good cars and giving them life back and putting back in the road!
That is one SWEET squareback. Classic color, nice patina. Some rust treatment on the deep patches, a spritz of LIGHT sky baby blue, some buffage and get her running. She'll make someone a very nice grocery-getter and town runner. Success!!!
Awesome car. Can’t wait to see you again it running Jason God bless
thank you Mark, you as well
That color, what a beauty!
Just waiting for that full resto!
I sure wish there was a VW guy like you who lived near me, i would for sure own one or two by now !

I want the Squareback! Love IT

Yum ! :) thank you Charles
Really nice car! Was wondering if you could do a video of your completed cars at some point? Would be cool to see your collection.
Awesome . I had a ‘67 but I sold it. It was in great condition . Mine still had the pull lever under Dashboard in order to put gas in it and lift the hood up. Should have never sold it . I miss it .

Those type 3's give a smoother ride and have more elbow room.
Excellent video Jason :) if want unthaw hose put vinegar to end then hot water on blow the ice and it easy to also won't ruin defrosting faster and yes this 1971 need bath and vaccum up too!

Excellent, love the squareback! Put my 240Z away for winter today got up to 52 so drove it one last time for 2022.
I used to hook the M hose to the water heater drain and run hot water to melt the ice. After a wash i would drag the hose up the yard to drain it completely.
Hi Jay. Here is a super tip on how to keep your hose pipe from freezing up. Live in California. Jen will love it.
Looking forward to seeing run another awesome video.
Loving the updates on the square back! You need some moon caps for those wheels .
thank you Marty !
WOW! It's beautiful.
Great looking car 👍

Hello all from Siesta Key Florida 52 degrees this morning high of 70 burrrr
sounds perfect but yes I remember after a few years of living in s fl not getting the mail when it was a breezy 65🤣

Great update on the squareback not much work to get it back on the road
thank you Nick
thank you , haha, no more Tshirt washes in winter for me though. I'm digging it :)

Another great video on something different. I don’t think that truck will be easy to push around so it might be best to get it running soon.
