    I just started using minoxidil via the Kirkland foam and the consistency is EXACTLY like mousse. It’s hard to get it on your finger to apply it, the only thing it does want to stick to is hair. I’ve been dispensing little dollops on my scalp right from the can, but if I can get ahold of dropper applicator I will give this melt-and-apply method a shot.

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  5 років тому +5

      Honestly, my dermaroller broke and since I stopped using it I haven't noticed any loss. That's not to say it doesn't work but maybe its just I get enough absorption for it to be effective without one.
      My decision to use derma rolling was based on the anecdotes of others and even though anecdotes can be valuable I personally don't find any further use for dermarolling. Don't let that stop you though if you're curious, it might work for you.

    I just saw that you did a hair transplant video, so does your hair look the way it does primarily because of the transplant? Or does the other stuff work? I haven't touched anything but I bought some rogaine from amazon earlier.
    would the idea steps be propecia--->rogaine-->transplant?
    What about the (potential) impotence?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  5 років тому +8

      The hair transplant helped me restore most of my hairline but even with a hair transplant you still need finasteride or some other AA in order to maintain what you haven't lost yet.
      Rogaine is fine but is is not effective long term as a treatment for male pattern baldness since it doesn't do anything to control the androgens on the scalp, its better as an adjunct treatment.
      Yes, finasteride should be your first step and for most people that should be enough. If you get sides with finasteride you can try a tropical anti androgen like RU-58841 or topical finasteride.
      Finasteride is the best choice though in my opinion, its very convenient and the sides are extremely rare.

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  5 років тому +9

      Keto is pretty shit as far as AA's are concerned, it doesn't stay on the hair long enough to do much or anything by itself. Minoxidil will buy you some time but eventually you'll need something stronger like finasteride.
      I really wouldn't worry about finasteride, its side effects are dramatically overblown and millions of men use it with no issues whatsoever.

      Minoxidil is minoxidil. I would start with less percantage and would increase the amount after a month or two. In general, it is just better to make your body get used slowly to new things, as it has more time then to adapt to the new conditions, leading to lower chances of side effects. Sorry for my bad english.

    Can you do a video on oral minoxidil? This has been prescribed by doctors recently

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  5 років тому +3

      I have never actually used it but I know it is more effective than topical minoxidil. Used with finasteride it is super effective, one of the strongest pharmaceutical treatments for hair loss.
      Loniten (oral minoxidil) is actually a blood pressure medication and the hair growth is a side effect. It is rarely prescribed even for blood pressure just because cardiologists have more effective drugs available today and such it is overall a pretty obscure drug.
      I can't comment on its safety but I do know it causes hair growth everywhere when taken orally, not just the scalp. I don't know if I'd want to shave my back every week.
      The best thing I can think of about oral minoxidil is that it would be convenient. Since you can't replace minoxidil with anything else and hope to maintain your growth from minoxidil it would be nice to simply just take a pill and be done with it.

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  5 років тому +3

      I have been off the drug for as long as 3 months, it was a long time ago and it was because I didn't fill my prescription and I didn't get my RX renewed with my doctor. I didn't get any sides although I do know a possibility of stopping finasteride is reflex hyperandrogenicity, my doctor has even warned me about it, especially if you stop it cold turkey. Its rare but if you do get it your hair loss and all of the other nasty things that DHT does will come back with a vengeance.
      Best to just not stop it IMO. Proscar can be acquired very cheaply, I pay just 9 US dollars for a 3 month supply.

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  5 років тому +2

      Almost certain you're going through an initial shed, it seems paradoxical but that is actually a sign the treatment is working. The old hairs are falling out to make way for stronger, thicker hairs which is why people tend to report more hair loss when they begin treatment and it can last as long as 6 months.
      If you want to avoid cosmetic embarrassment invest in some Toppik or Derm match (if your hairline is the problem) and that will give you the appearance of fullness while you wait for the shedding to wear off.
      Don't sweat it though, your routine is very strong; the chances of you losing hair permanently on a routine like that are extremely low.

    The foam works good and I had lots of hair still you just got part the hair and use one finger to rub it in the areas you need it. Plus the foam is better for people with sensitive skin because the liquid can leave the skin dry red and itchy. Plus get on finasteride with minoxidil talk to your doctor but using both of these the minoxidil will promote hair growth and finasteride will help keep the hair you’ve grown. I went one whole month without using minoxidil and just kept on using finasteride and it kept the hair I grew back. I have no side effects on finasteride I take 5mg pills and I cut them up into quarts and take that.

    Hey Kevin, I have a couple of quick questions: what do you think about websites like alldaychemist, which allow you to purchase medication online without a prescription in larger quantities? I'm moving to Ukraine in a few months so I won't have access to finasteride, but I could buy it from this website. What do you think? They also have dutasteride, do you think I should get both, or do you recommend one over the other? Lastly, what do you think of biotin? Does it help prevent hairloss?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  5 років тому +2

      Hey, it is a legit website, at least back when I used it a couple of years ago.
      Just make sure you talk to your doctor and get an RX before you make any decision to buy those drugs.
      You can find doctors online too who can write prescriptions for you.
      As for Biotin having an extreme defeciency in Biotin can cause hair loss but those are almost unheard of in the developed world and there is no evidence taking super physiological doses helps. Remember, your hair loss is caused by genetics, not because of vitamin or minerals.

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  5 років тому +2

      Dutasteride inhibits about 30 percent more DHT do to inhibiting both types of the alpha 5 enzyme as opposed to finasteride which inhibits only one type. What is interesting about finasteride though is that two of the enzyme variants, specifically P48L and the F194L variants respond better with finasteride than dutasteride.
      jme.endocrinology-journals.org/content/34/3/617.long
      This is why some people will actually stack finasteride with dutasteride, I have done this myself with positive results however when I dropped dut and kept fin I didn't lose any ground so I haven't used dutasteride in several months. I do have some left over on stand by in case of an emergency though.
      Dutasteride's half life is much longer than fin, so I think even if you combine them just using dut once or twice a week combined with fin every other day should be enough to get the full benefits of both drugs.

      @haircafekevin  5 років тому +1

      Heh, yeah I'd say so. That was the best research I could find regarding combining the two and frankly I don't think its necessary either even though I don't think it could really hurt. Everything beyond that research comes from people's own personal anecdotes and its up to other people to decide how much they're willing to trust those.
      I think a lot of people don't give finasteride or dutasteride enough time to work (at least 3-6 months) and they jump on these combination therapies.
