Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on UA-cam, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on UA-cam. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on UA-cam, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.
This is a reaction video used to educate and give my feedback on the song and artists.

Some say the man, Brev Mekis, may have been schizophrenic. He lived in whichever apt he was feeling at the time. "When you tire of one side the other serves you best." There is at least 1 copy of the book available for $1500! They say the copies of the book were found after he died. This song is well-loved by me, R.E.M. fans, and R.E.M. tribute bands! Thanks for the reaction ✌️🎶

Back in the day before the internet, REM fans had no idea what Michael Stipe was singing half the time, but we liked it that way, LOL. It's been this long for me and I still haven't looked up much of their lyrics. Michael's voice was as much an instrument of sound as the guitar, bass, and drums.

I agree! His vocals are another layer of instrumentation of the melody

That's exactly why REM refused to print thier lyrics for a long time

All the IRS era REM albums are some of the greatest recorded by anyone, stellar track of course w/ this one 👌

Glad to see someone looking at some earlier songs for R.E.M. They were one of the biggest and most influential of the folk rock, post-punk, alternative groups coming out of the late 70's early 80's. Hope you get to some more.
Maybe: So. Central Rain, Radio Free Europe, Fall on Me, or (Don't Go Back To) Rockville, as popular radio play early tracks, or some deeper cuts well known to fans... Harborcoat, Sitting Still, Old Man Kensey, King of Birds are some good starts. It is difficult to choose even a few, when all are favorites. They are among the music royalty when it comes to how well loved they were how many 90's alternative bands point to them as inspiration.
As far as his singing style and being able to understand him, Michael Stipe was becoming more confident by this album. Even with that he was well known to mumble and his lyrics often changed on stage before ever getting to recording them. He would find words that sounded good from a phonetic stand point rather than meaning conveyed. It was part of their signature style.
With that in mind lyric interpretation and transcriptions are all done by others and at times can be sketchy. He would rather the listener find their own meanings by feeling the song. Some have more obvious interpretations and there are interviews and live shows that give explanations for a some songs. They can be few since he really didn't like those questions. The others in the band also contributed and those were a bit more straightforward. In the end you get out of each song what you want. Nonsense or poetic genius. For me they are in my top 5 bands.
For this guy in the song. They were interested in modern stories of Americana and the characters within. Especially those local to Georgia and the south. This album Fabels of the Reconstruction was centered around that. This drew them to the subject here. His personality flaws probably didn't really play into it, or made it more colorful.

Spoken like a true R.E.M. fan! I am your sistah!!!
So, which set of lyrics for Fall On Me? When I saw them at Radio City Music Hall in 1985, they sang the original lyrics. I love both versions

R.E.M. has a song for Kurt Cobain. 'Let Me In', 1994, it's pretty intense 💔
