It’s their style of movement (since each bending element is based off a real style of martial arts). Yo. Ty Lee’s chi blocking fighting style always looked TERRIFYING to me. She’s definitely an underrated character when it comes to nom-bending fighters.

Ty Lee didn't master swordsmanship in the way Suki does. Ty Lee specializing in Chi blocking and teaching it to the Kyoshi warriors is what made Suki number 1. Besides, Ty Lee subdues but Suki has more overall strength.
I think Suki is stronger because she is also a weapons specialist and she's almost as acrobatic as Ty Lee, maybe even on the same level. Once she learned chi blocking from Ty Lee, she surpassed her. And as mentioned before, she's physically stronger than Ty Lee because she tosses around grown men even before she learned how to chi block.

She was able to take out what looks like an entire platoon of earth benders without even taking any visible damage, and can even take out kyoshi warriors who are trained by suki herself with relative ease.

Why is Piendao so low? Sokka never surpassed his master in the series. Piendao said he had the potential to. That doesn't mean by the end of Book Three.

I might have put Mai a little higher on the list, tho. ATLA is a kids show, but in real life, she would have used those blades with deadly accuracy against team Avatar! Imo, Mai and the archers should be 1st and 2nd. These people shoot sharp projectiles, but they choose to targret clothing; imagine if they wanted to shoot someone in the eye, no contest
the problem with Ty Lee is, she is a Brawler, not a Fighter with a weapon. She has natural disadvantage vs all Weapon-Masters and will be super useless, if her enemy puts Armor on
I'd say Asami would be higher on my list. How easily she got close up to benders, and how she's been in training since a kid. I'd place her much higher, but I guess the amount of screen time she had fighting did compare to others.

Nope, Azula destroyed her. She was on the defensive the whole time, and Azula makes you switch to your weakness cuz you fear her (ex. Aang offensive earthbending)
You should have included the Blue Spirit on the list. Zuko never used his bending while being the Blue Spirit and only Aang, Iroh, and Admiral Zhao knew the identity of him in the whole wide world of Avatar.
The only real “wow” moment for me was how high Sokka was. Not saying he was bad, but of my memory he was .. more of a leader/strategist than a fighter. And I can’t really recall many of his crazy impressive feats in battle compared to the rest.
Sokka is probably the best 'natural' fighter in the series; his feats may not have been as numerous, but you have to remember to start with he had very little training (his father and the other warriors left when he was about 10 or 11). I think the best examples of Sokka's skills were when we did see him training; after only a week or so of lessons from the Kyoshi Warriors he could hold his own against Suki, and it was the same with Piendao.

Yeah, if you recall the episode "Zuko Alone" - he loses to a random Earth Kingdom soldier without using firebending and thus reveals himself. When him and Aang mulch the soldiers at Zhao's prison? None of them bend at him. He takes down a *few* benders with just his sword but, Zuko's strength is in his Firebending. He would get his ass WHUPPED by Suki or Ty Lee in a 1v1 no-bending matchup. And I say this as a Zuko fanboy.

She never lost a fight and every single one of her fights didn't last longer than 3 seconds, she just went right for the take down with no messing around.

Before this list I would definitely have put Ty-Lee as number one, but the revelation that she taught Suki chi blocking and Suki then mastered it alongside her other skills definitely pushes her up. I'd still put Ty-Lee first just because Suki has never demonstrated the speed and agility Ty-Lee has from her years of gymnastics training and her years as a circus acrobat. That girl can dodge almost anything you throw at her. Plus the training went both ways, with Ty-Lee learning the combat skills of the Kyoshi warriors just as she taught them chi blocking.
This list is subjective, I get it, but there is one entry I have a little bit of an issue with. Piandao literally states that Sokka will *one day* surpass him, so I don't understand how you can rank Sokka higher than him. I understand that Sokka most likely has the superior tactical mind, but this is specifically about non-bending *combatants*, and on a combat level, Piandao is objectively the better fighter.
After the arching this I was thinking “Yeah, this is pretty accurate“ and then I saw a comment talking about Jet vs Sokka and I know that Sokka grows a lot over time he whole series and becomes a really strong fighter but I still think Jet would bet him at the end. Any thoughts on this? 🤔

I understand it's your list, and it's appreciated you admit it's biased; However there's so much wrong in your list: 1. Being a good tactician doesn't mean you are a good fighter. 2. If a fighter wins a fight against another, it doesn't mean the first is the stronger. There are several stuff like fighting conditions, mental state, etc... Sokka outsmarted Pindao once, while Sokka never outperformed his master... The swordmaster wasn't even fighting serious. There's no way Sokka is ranked above Pindao or even the equalists. Sukki your first... Ok, she is charismatic, and stuff but she can't best Ty Lee... just in sheer skill and power Sukki is badly outskilled. Kioshi warriors are too overrated, they are good fighters but they are ground warriors. Surroundings matter, it's not the same having Pindao in his house, having invaders being forced to enter close spaces like corridors, there his swordskill would be handy.. In open ground a bunch of firebenders would just burn him to the bones using AOE attacks.. No matter how good a fighter someone is, in open ground AOE attacks trumps... In a world of bending, the best warriors are those able to outmaneuver the benders' skills, extra points if they can chi block. Not including Zaheer in this list Since the only stuff we saw about him was his prowess as a airbender Here is a draft list, just from the tip of my head: 1. Equalist leader 2. Ty Lee 3. Pindao 4. Azula at that time doesn't seem like the type to say no for help.
I just want everyone to remember, that just because Suki is a sword master it doesn't mean she has the edge. Especially her, due to the fact her entire move arsenal is not based on weaponry. She uses weapons as an extension of her body. So theoretically she should be equal skilled with or without a weapon. That's just her fighting style. Ty Lee is a counter striker and chi blocker(it never mentioned her being a counter striker, but watch her fights. She tends to strike while her opponents are attacking) any trained fighter knows the Bain of a weapons user is a counter striker due to the weight and force needed to use said weapon. Suki's best chance of beating ty Lee would be hand to hand. Besides it would be an insult to the character Suki is to think she is weaker without her weapons.
Sokka is a strategist, NOT a one-on-one fighter. He lost against Pianddao, a middle-aged man, and although he shows strategic ability, he is average-to-above-average physically for his age, and the Kyoshi Warriors humiliated him. Strategy is useful in war with others, who can hide your weaknesses combatively, but in a normal fight, if Sokka’s boomerang didn’t knock you out (it probably wouldn’t), you could win if you were physically superior.
In my opinion it gets a little shaky from 3-1, While I believe they all should in that list I feel like it'd probably be more of Suki: Unlike what you said I don't feel she mastered them all as that's not plausible, I feel she's just a really talented jack of all trades person, she's good at everything but will lose to someone who masters a few of those techniques Sokka: There's no doubt Sokka isn't strong, Sokka was a very capable swordsman, master with his boomerang, and I feel with age he just got even better, he probably also learned Chi Blocking, as I feel him and Suki would probably keep training, Sokka is a prodigy with just a few weeks (I think, its been awhile) Master Piandao was able to recognize him as one day being able to surpass himself. Ty Lee: I may be a little Biased but hear me out, in the boiling rock episode, Azula is seen using flames to help herself jump from one trolly to another, in that same episode Suki does the same without bending, that shows some incredible strength, add that on with the fact she was able to quickly dismantle the Kyoshi warriors when she fought them, she went toe to toe with Suki and only retreated when Azula said to, I feel an argument could be made to put Sokka on the number 1 spot but for right now I believe its Suki
I would definitely rank Asami higher as well as Mai. Suki as #1 is very accurate as she did surpass Ty Lee in boiling rock pt.2 they basically tied, and after learning chi blocking from Ty Lee I think she could take her no problem.
I'm sorry Mai at NUMBER TEN, she's easily three, she defeats Kyoshi Warriors, Fire Nation Soldiers, and Katara to name a few. She should at least be above the Kyoshi Warriors. But she's definitely better than Sokka

I would disagree with Asami's spot since she's shown to deal with the Equalists pretty well whom you put at 9. And her gauntlet is a one shot weapon. You have to take that into account. That's like saying Sokka without his boomerang and sword
so glad Sokka got the appreciation he deserves. but I think Asami should have been in the top 5, and mai i'd say is par with Asami, the equalists were chi blockers and the lieutenant was giving lin a run for her money they should have been higher.
Who else feels like Jett did not get enough attention. He took on Zuko who was trained by the best sword fighter, and Jett never even had a trainer! Imagine how powerful he would be if he had been trained
It was pretty fair but I would have put Asami higher on the list at least in the top ten. She’s a total badass and we have never seen her lose a fight. She also knows how to operate pretty much every machine out there. But I think your rankings are pretty understandable.

Nothing like the first watch! But it’s always there to rewatch! My favorite episode is actually “the waterbending scroll” from season 1, with the pirates. Excellent Iroh and Zuko screen time.

You should have included the Blue Spirit on the list. Zuko never used his bending while being the Blue Spirit and only Aang, Iroh, and Admiral Zhao knew the identity of him in the whole wide world of Avatar.

The only real “wow” moment for me was how high Sokka was. Not saying he was bad, but of my memory he was .. more of a leader/strategist than a fighter. And I can’t really recall many of his crazy impressive feats in battle compared to the rest.
Sokka is probably the best 'natural' fighter in the series; his feats may not have been as numerous, but you have to remember to start with he had very little training (his father and the other warriors left when he was about 10 or 11). I think the best examples of Sokka's skills were when we did see him training; after only a week or so of lessons from the Kyoshi Warriors he could hold his own against Suki, and it was the same with Piendao.

Bad thing about ala they didn’t use non benders properly, they made them so weak, and some bender without their bending can’t even fight, this is why zaheer is my favorite character he was a non bender that zuko even said he was too powerful and then he learn bending by himself

Yeah, if you recall the episode "Zuko Alone" - he loses to a random Earth Kingdom soldier without using firebending and thus reveals himself.
When him and Aang mulch the soldiers at Zhao's prison? None of them bend at him. He takes down a *few* benders with just his sword but, Zuko's strength is in his Firebending. He would get his ass WHUPPED by Suki or Ty Lee in a 1v1 no-bending matchup. And I say this as a Zuko fanboy.

really underselling Asami, she was a beast. took out groups of equilists, took out the equilist moustache general, took out red lotus members before several master benders could even act) and took out metal benders. She never lost a fight and every single one of her fights didn't last longer than 3 seconds, she just went right for the take down with no messing around.

Before this list I would definitely have put Ty-Lee as number one, but the revelation that she taught Suki chi blocking and Suki then mastered it alongside her other skills definitely pushes her up. I'd still put Ty-Lee first just because Suki has never demonstrated the speed and agility Ty-Lee has from her years of gymnastics training and her years as a circus acrobat. That girl can dodge almost anything you throw at her. Plus the training went both ways, with Ty-Lee learning the combat skills of the Kyoshi warriors just as she taught them chi blocking.

This list is subjective, I get it, but there is one entry I have a little bit of an issue with.
Piandao literally states that Sokka will *one day* surpass him, so I don't understand how you can rank Sokka higher than him. I understand that Sokka most likely has the superior tactical mind, but this is specifically about non-bending *combatants*, and on a combat level, Piandao is objectively the better fighter.
After the arching this I was thinking “Yeah, this is pretty accurate“ and then I saw a comment talking about Jet vs Sokka and I know that Sokka grows a lot over time he whole series and becomes a really strong fighter but I still think Jet would bet him at the end. Any thoughts on this? 🤔

I wonder how high a Non-Bending Zuko would rank on this list. I think I’d put him either just above or below Sokka. Sokka vs Zuko sword fight would be hard to predict, since Zuko could beat Jet, but Sokka could take on Piandao. Now, Sokka didn’t win his fight and Jet is nothing compared to Piandao, but I still think Zuko vs Sokka would go to the Prince 6 times out of 10. Can we get Antoine Bandele here, sword fight with these two?

I understand it's your list, and it's appreciated you admit it's biased; However there's so much wrong in your list:
1. Being a good tactician doesn't mean you are a good fighter.
2. If a fighter wins a fight against another, it doesn't mean the first is the stronger. There are several stuff like fighting conditions, mental state, etc... Sokka outsmarted Pindao once, while Sokka never outperformed his master... The swordmaster wasn't even fighting serious. There's no way Sokka is ranked above Pindao or even the equalists.
Sukki your first... Ok, she is charismatic, and stuff but she can't best Ty Lee... just in sheer skill and power Sukki is badly outskilled.
Kioshi warriors are too overrated, they are good fighters but they are ground warriors.
Surroundings matter, it's not the same having Pindao in his house, having invaders being forced to enter close spaces like corridors, there his swordskill would be handy.. In open ground a bunch of firebenders would just burn him to the bones using AOE attacks.. No matter how good a fighter someone is, in open ground AOE attacks trumps...
In a world of bending, the best warriors are those able to outmaneuver the benders' skills, extra points if they can chi block.
Not including Zaheer in this list Since the only stuff we saw about him was his prowess as a airbender

While Suki fought Azula, Mai and Ty Lee fought the rest of the Kyoshi Warriors and upperhanded them. I bet once Mai and Ty Lee were done with the warriors, they helped Azula to make sure they win. Azula at that time doesn't seem like the type to say no for help.
I lost from princess Azula not from Ty lee, but Ty lee is really good warrior too!

I just want everyone to remember, that just because Suki is a sword master it doesn't mean she has the edge. Especially her, due to the fact her entire move arsenal is not based on weaponry. She uses weapons as an extension of her body. So theoretically she should be equal skilled with or without a weapon. That's just her fighting style. Ty Lee is a counter striker and chi blocker(it never mentioned her being a counter striker, but watch her fights. She tends to strike while her opponents are attacking) any trained fighter knows the Bain of a weapons user is a counter striker due to the weight and force needed to use said weapon. Suki's best chance of beating ty Lee would be hand to hand. Besides it would be an insult to the character Suki is to think she is weaker without her weapons.

Sokka is a strategist, NOT a one-on-one fighter. He lost against Pianddao, a middle-aged man, and although he shows strategic ability, he is average-to-above-average physically for his age, and the Kyoshi Warriors humiliated him. Strategy is useful in war with others, who can hide your weaknesses combatively, but in a normal fight, if Sokka’s boomerang didn’t knock you out (it probably wouldn’t), you could win if you were physically superior.
In my opinion it gets a little shaky from 3-1,
While I believe they all should in that list I feel like it'd probably be more of
Suki: Unlike what you said I don't feel she mastered them all as that's not plausible, I feel she's just a really talented jack of all trades person, she's good at everything but will lose to someone who masters a few of those techniques
Sokka: There's no doubt Sokka isn't strong, Sokka was a very capable swordsman, master with his boomerang, and I feel with age he just got even better, he probably also learned Chi Blocking, as I feel him and Suki would probably keep training, Sokka is a prodigy with just a few weeks (I think, its been awhile) Master Piandao was able to recognize him as one day being able to surpass himself.
Ty Lee: I may be a little Biased but hear me out, in the boiling rock episode, Azula is seen using flames to help herself jump from one trolly to another, in that same episode Suki does the same without bending, that shows some incredible strength, add that on with the fact she was able to quickly dismantle the Kyoshi warriors when she fought them, she went toe to toe with Suki and only retreated when Azula said to, I feel an argument could be made to put Sokka on the number 1 spot but for right now I believe its Suki
I would definitely rank Asami higher as well as Mai. Suki as #1 is very accurate as she did surpass Ty Lee in boiling rock pt.2 they basically tied, and after learning chi blocking from Ty Lee I think she could take her no problem.
I'm sorry Mai at NUMBER TEN, she's easily three, she defeats Kyoshi Warriors, Fire Nation Soldiers, and Katara to name a few. She should at least be above the Kyoshi Warriors. But she's definitely better than Sokka

I would disagree with the placement on all the Kyoshi warrior place. Mai should had been higher since those 3 girls wracked them. And I’ll place ty lee at number 1 because she’s was part of azula gang and I bet before she went to the circus she was train by the fire nation and azula to be that smiling adorable cute monster that we see and getting mentor by zukki only make her deadlier with zukki at number 2 because of everything I said about ty lee but ty lee beat her so I’m placing her higher. Everyone else I’ll agree with.

I would disagree with Asami's spot since she's shown to deal with the Equalists pretty well whom you put at 9. And her gauntlet is a one shot weapon. You have to take that into account. That's like saying Sokka without his boomerang and sword

It was pretty fair but I would have put Asami higher on the list at least in the top ten. She’s a total badass and we have never seen her lose a fight. She also knows how to operate pretty much every machine out there. But I think your rankings are pretty understandable.
Mai is seriously underrated. If the show wasn't produced for Nickelodeon, she would have easily killed her enemys and the story would have ended with sokka and katara beeing stabbed...

Honestly I think end of show Piendao is best non bender then Suki and Tai lee then sokka. I think this list is more where the characters would place at the logical hypothetical peaks rather than what we saw in the show.
Personally I think that Zhu li should have been on here, also Asami should have been higher. I think she under ranked the high intellect characters.
