    You really need a drill guide with a depth stop. You need the hole perpendicular to the block, with the hole slightly longer than insert.
    Tap needs to be guided perpendicular as well, and be sure to use a proper tap wrench.
    If the drive end of the tap is moving, the tap is not going in straight, which means an oversized hole, and a loose, misaligned fit.
    Drill and tap guides are simple shop made tools to fit the job, and are worth the effort to acquire/make them. Once constructed they will serve for many years, and easily repay your effort with more accurate work.
    Good tip about cutting the end off the tap, so as to get it to cut full depth. Problem is, it is even harder to start when modified like this. Drilling the hole about one thread longer eliminates the need to modify the tap.
    There are also " TYME" inserts to repair stripped threads, but their larger diameter might weaken the part. They do allow a botched / stripped thread insert hole to be repaired though, and the increased diameter holds much better than an STI, especially in a porous casting, which are very common in some cases.
    Porosity is a major cause or pulled studs, where over torqueing and bottoming out are not the cause.

    I just had to do this on my motor lol, i drilled the hole too deep by accident so i had to flush my crankcase way too many times. Also had to seal the stud threads with silicone

    Good Video, glad I watched....Been so long since I've used a tap. That I forgot there's 2 different types.
    I didn't see you remove the thread insert tab. Dunno if the tab was bottomed out & didn't need to be removed. Or if video footage got lost.
    I thought I'd never strip any threads, if I was careful.
    But made the mistake of working on the engine when it wasn't fully cooled down. Apparently loosening & removing the studs when the engine is still a bit warm. Is all it takes to strip those soft aluminum threads.
    Strands of copper wire & red locktite often work on mildly stripped threads. But never tried it on a hot engine with the expansion & contraction, possibly working it loose.

    When I was installing the universal U-boat to install the engine on my bike one of the bolts snapped. What should I do?

    • @HughesMotorized
      @HughesMotorized  4 місяці тому

      Proper fit is key. You simply over-tightened the UBolt. The motor should fit snugly before you try and bolt anything down

    I recently bought a bicycle engine kit and it only came with one base gasket do you think it will still run good?

    • @HughesMotorized
      @HughesMotorized  4 місяці тому

      A few years ago, most engines only had one base gasket. So it should be okay

    If you use a proper tap handle this job will be significantly easier to do.

      Looked pretty easy to me. I've been turning wrenches since 1970s. Maybe I'll learn one day ;-)

    HEY BROTHER CAN YOU HELP ME OUT I BOUGHT A NEW ENGINE AND INSTALLED IT ON MY BIKE AND RUNS GREAT BUT WHEN I RIDE FOR 3-5 ENGINE SHUTS OFF AND TURNS ON BUT NO POWER… WHEN IT COOLS DOWN FOR LIKE 10 MINUTES IT TURNS RIGHT UP AND RIDES LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED BUT AGAIN AFTER 3 MINUTES IT DOES THE SAME THING LOOSES POWER AND SHUTS OFF .. WHAT CAN IT BE ?

    • @HughesMotorized
      @HughesMotorized  6 місяців тому +1

      Might be gas cap vent or magneto coil. The cap might not let enough air into gas tank or the coil is fine when cold then goes bad when warm/hot
