i sold this truck and the dude that bought it, was freakin very impressed on the paint job. I tell you what though, if you spend the time the rustoleum can look dam good for sure. so I say go for it.

@polarissportsman5001 the mixture was the cheap recycled min-spirits and the paint was the professional black oil base from home depot. the prep was really just quick sanding, to rough the surface. cleaned of with mineral spirits. let dry the mixed like 25 % mineral with paint the more you use the more runny it will be and if not thin enough it will bubble up on you and create more orange peel.

Very good! At this point all it needed was heavy wet sanding , buffed and polished and it would like as good as a factory paint.

Looks pretty good. I did an old 83 Ford Ranger like that that was given to me. I chose white and painted the grill and bumpers white too. I didn't thin it and didn't wait for it to harden between coats. I used a rattle can to get between the bed and rear cab. Turned out real good and the white masks alot of imperfections. Still have it and it gets lots of comments because of everything being white. They say it looks European. lol I put an old set of 20's on it that were laying around the shop.

I think it turned out really good! Its a better alterative than paying thousands for a professional paint job...I have a 1986 Camper Van (just picked it up), going to paint it myself too.

@Ocimproductions sorry it took so long to get back to you.
I used roll on paint as well for the strips. and used blue painters tape. did the stripes first, after it dried for 3 days i came back and taped over the white slightly revealing a little white then painted the black just overlapping the white. 3 coats on the white. hope that helps.

@Ocimproductions 3 coats of white paint, blue painters tape. painted stripes first after 3 days of sun, I came back with blue painters tape on top of the white slightly revealing the the white edge so the black would overlap. then buffed the paint 3 days later to smooth. light wet sanding the polishing compound. Note after I painted removed tape before it dryed. otherwise it's hard to remove. hope this helps.

GREAT Job Man. Thanks for the helpful vid. Going to try mine soon while I'm in between semesters. '91 SR5 yota pickup. Needs some asthetic TLC. Just priced decals. LOOK'n Forward to putt'n a smile back on my great 'ole reliable friend. This truck's been so great for me for many years and MANY miles. Can't wait to do it right now in July-August here in Craig, CO where it's real hot 'n dry. Planning on maybe going the rattle can route though..Thoughts? Advice? Watch'n YT vids for ideas. :)

I look at it this way, if I put a lot of time in to it and lots of money, and then it becomes a show truck etc.. it won't ever see the woods or a dirt road. it's a 4x4 and made for the woods. thanks for the comment..

A neighbor told me that lacquer is te type of paint that shrinks ad cracks not enamel. Enamel dry's from inside out. Lacquer dries from outside in. So use enamel paint recommended

I recently did a really similar paint job on an almost identical truck.
    ua-cam.com/video/VRv901eSVO8/v-deo.html
My '88 C1500 had a pretty rough body, but some license plates/sheet metal screws took care of that. Overall it turned out pretty good, especially when I put the chrome back on.
