I am a part of that 89% of people in the UK who feels this way, no idea of God has ever been a part of my life. I've spent a lot of time recently looking for purpose. Strange coincidence for this to be recommended to me...

All my life I was always there to take care of my family. Took care of my father when my mother died at an early age. Took care of my siblings, nephews & nieces. I knew that was my purpose. I was confused if that is the only purpose of my life then came this special person who is now my husband…..and yes I am taking care of him up to now & I pray to stay that way. As I felt this is my happiness …meeting him & being married to my soulmate, I was very contented and full of joy but then few years later I was diagnosed with cancer. It was my lowest point in my life….but to be honest, it has open my mind and heart to a better purpose ( though it took time to realise everything ) and that is to serve God and the church. Until now I am in this cancer journey but I am taking it as the real reason why I am still alive….to fulfil my duty in this state of life…to offer everything up throughout my day my pain and anguish as a sacrifice united to Jesus’ passion. Please pray for me. I know i still have a purpose & I thank God despite of this struggle. Prayer - Use me God. Show me how to take who I am, who I want to be, and what I can do, and use it for a purpose greater than myself. Amen

Great message. A while back I came across a video that claimed life has no meaning (it may have even been titled that way, I don't recall). Anyway, I watched this half-hour or so video and it was basically Nihilism wrapped in New Age rhetoric with a bit of cosmology sprinkled in. The premise was everything is random so don't worry about anything because control is an illusion, etc. etc. I found it to be ridiculous on its face. My question was; why would anything that didn't serve some purpose even exist? But what disheartened me was the thousands of comments thanking this video developer for pointing out that life is essentially meaningless, that in some odd way they felt better having this dark idea affirmed.
I know there may be people who will take exception to my comments/beliefs on the matter but where they see the logic in a random universe I see it as illogical. I did find the story of the Holocaust survivor instructional. I heard a similar story on a WWII documentary from a Japanese POW camp survivor. He said he could tell when people were going to die because they just gave up. A few hours later they would find their bodies. They subsided on the same meager rations but the difference in this gentleman's mind was he never gave up and he knew he needed to survive because there was more to his life than that prison camp. Faith can achieve amazing things. I met two men who survived the Bataan Death March and they both mentioned their faith and determination as key to their survival. I have been in dark places myself so I can relate. But to anyone feeling that way, my advice is patience and trust in God. It can work wonders.
Great video, great topic. Thanks for posting.

I’m always nervous talking to people about my faith. Like I’ve been burned by people in the past too for professing faith in something and don’t want to talk to them because they are so hard hearted, they don’t want to hear my suggestions, my encouragement, or my testimony. They don’t want to listen to anything that doesn’t conform to their world view. If that is how they want it, they can burn for all I care.

This is the most god-less generation in history, not even the pagan era had this many atheist. This age of technology has us more disconnected, more self-absorbed, and further away from God than ever and thus more lost and sad. There are more young children entering the world who haven't even heard the name of our savior Jesus Christ, than in the last 2,000 years. We are practically back in the Sodom times. Pray heavily for conversion of sinners, pray every day for God to strengthen your faith, and if you have littles do not let them grow up without fighting for their salvation, we all know the devil wants them in his charge. Regarding therapy, I have heard a couple times people mention a “Catholic therapist,” which perhaps is an important distinction. There are so many considerations aside from just recommending a therapist. For example, some people are poor and cannot afford a therapist. In line with what Jackie was saying about the Happiness Advantage/positive psychology affirming aspects of the Catholic ethic, giving to the poor may produce more happiness in individuals than receiving therapy, which can actually have bad results depending on the circumstances, and is in accord with Catholic Social Teaching, and so on. I could write a lot on this and other topics. Is there a way to contact Jackie and Bobby? Thank you.
By the way, Steve Martin studied philosophy in college. When he received the Mark Twain Award, Martin Short quipped that this was appropriate as people in the audience were at that moment asking, “Why am I here?” 😊

God already knows the outcome of all things. God created eveything in the heavens and the world and everything of the world for Himself and given His creatures freewill because He wanted friends who could think for themselves and decide for themselves to be His friends. I would guess before creation God was lonely.
As for our purpose in the short time we are given in this world in which a lifetime to us is not even a blink of an eye for God. Our time here is basically a test of our friendship with God. Those who endure until the end of their time in this world enjoy the company of God and the other saints in Heaven forever. As for those who reject friendship with God well God gives them what they want separation from God forever. And there are those who weren't always good friends to God but they tried God gives them time away from Him until they are ready to be with Him forever.

What is the point of life?🤔
From a sort of secular skeptics point of view, I'm not sure if life in general has a point. When I ask myself "why does it matter that I'm experiencing life currently?" This is a question directed necessarily to whomever my life matters to. So, myself, as I enjoy living💁 my friends and family👫👬👪, who enjoy my company...most of the time😂 sometimes im a pain i know.
But what it boils down to how my existence enriches, enhances, brightens, im giving myself a lot of credit here, but overall positively impacts other entities to whom my existence matters.
So maybe there is some godly mind who had a specific purpose for me and all this incalculable cosmos, to whom my existence matters most of all, but absent my current conviction of this you wonderful people are reason enough for me😉
Remember to give someone a hug today🤗

    • @Joseph-p4o1k
      @Joseph-p4o1k 2 роки тому

I guess the current point of our lives here on earth is separation from God due to sin. Nothing unclean can enter heaven. All have sinned and fallen short the glory of God. Life here is a trial. We are on the earth to get to know God. The point is, God gives us free will. Receive Jesus in your heart and then you will truly see God.

NO! Thats Protestant behavior (to go and beating religion into peoples head) nobody wants to hear that all day. As Catholics we dont go around harrasing people about it. Rather than saying pointless vague statements.

The question is pointless. The only reason why we ask it is because our frontal lobe is slightly bigger allowing us better intentional thinking useful for tools. This opened up a new ecological niche. So just because we evolved to be such intentional thinking animals, we start searching for intention in everything, even in us.
A hammer is just a stick with a stone just like humans are just cells. The hammer gets its meaning via humans. In the same way, humans give themselves meaning.
