INSANE!!!! imagine paying 700euros more for a little better ray tracing (which you most likely wont notice all the time and can easily live without) and like 0-15 fps in some games and even less fps in others.
I bought the Strix advantage edition on launch. One thing to keep in mind: I have had problems with random crashing when in sleep mode, and it appears others have as well. You can get this laptop on sale at Best Buy in the US for 1400 USD at times, but my suspicion is these are units that were returned and refurbished. After upgrading the RAM it came to ~1750 USD including tax (sold old ram on ebay). For that price the lack of DLSS and poorer raytracing performance was well worth it. Jarrod doesn't do Doom Eternal in his benchmarks, so FWIW I can get 165 FPS (my display's max) at 1440p with raytracing off, but closer to 90 FPS with raytracing on. Jarrod, you still haven't sent me your shipping address so you can get my death metal band's tee.
I have mine from launch and never had an issue. I upgraded to 32 gigs of fancier/faster ram from Facebook classifieds used. I sold the slower 16 gigs for the same price as the faster 32 gigs. The newer amd advantages don’t seem to have any issues and is sold with faster ram. Plus a new version is coming out.
its kind of sad seeing RTX barely beating RX6800m in some titles even with DLSS enabled -_- in some titles the difference is incredible but in some its just disappointing, I think that both options are great if u can get it at good price
Love the reviews Jarrod and thanks for this one. But There still both amazing laptops with there own pros and cons!
After and From the M7 serial number g15 (Basically any laptops made after October) come with the faster x8 ram (at least here in my region India) So the only downside left is the mux switch but tbf it doesn't matter as mux switch mainly affects cpu bound games and almost all the cpu bound games are above the screen refresh rate so it doesn't matter.

I have the RX6800M now, and have had several laptops with RTX 3080 16GB. The AMD card feels a bit faster in Starfield, but I can not really tell if that the AMD optimalisation or a faster AMD card? In most games the RTX 3080 is tiny bit better choice. Games just run smoother and G-Sync also a better experience, but those laptops are quite a bit more expensive. 4K is not really an option (even with FSR) no matter if we are talking AMD or Nvidia. With an Nvidia card DLSS and 4K works fine in most of the less demanding games, but FSR on AMD looks quite ugly and tends to have lags. I ended up turning off FSR or any upscaling technology with my G15 Advanced. It just better without. All recent games run fine at QHD high settings. (Forza Motorsport, Phantom Liberty, Remnant II, Starfield... etc)
@@BasedHSVdude No complaint as of now. The "early production" bugs (WiFi not automatically connecting or Dolby Atmos randomly turned off after start-up) have been fixed. Do you think they have too much difference? Or do you think it’s worth picking the laptop I picked instead of this AMD version which costs me £400 more? And which one do you think is faster RTX 3080 8GB or 6800m?
Hey Jarrod, I have a suggestion. I think when testing the games with dlss, you should set the dlss preset to balanced or performance since those are the presets most suited for 1080p or 1440p
Not really. The recommended settings (per Digital Foundry) are quality at 1080p, balanced at 1440p and performance at 4k (ofc you can go higher). Balanced at 1080p has a bit too little pixels to work. with.
It's a strange one but true, due to the ROP and raster ratio of the GPU. Higher resolutions benefit it slightly more than lower where the ROPs get flooded quicker.
Hey Jarrod, great stuff as always, But I am wondering since you didn't mention it, were these results for the 6800M done with an external monitor or pure laptop hardware?
@@icyycold1094 that's not true, the couple bad reviews you saw were reviewers who had their power plans on low or quiet modes. This is common knowledge now. The 6850M is about 10% more powerful my friend

Hey Jarrod, could you review the Legion 7 Slim? You already reviewed nearly the entire 2021 Legion lineup so it's kinda weird you haven't touched on that yet
That price difference between a 3080 and even a lower 3080 is still at least $400 and at about $1000+ for a high end 3080. Considering the gap between the two isn't that great, that 6800M is a steal for the price to performance bank for buck. If you can get a 6800M laptop for $1500 that would be a steal.
Very interesting results! Could the gap be a little larger with a different RTX 3080 laptop? Lenovo legion is the best comparing CPU performance so using Lenovo legion 7 with the same memory might enlarge the gap with better R9 5900HX and larger 300w power brick. I don't know if the power brick can decrease performance if the power is maxed out.
desktop 3070ti is more powerful than desktop 6700xt obviously. but when it comes to mobile, it seems not the case. so could it be that 6000 series is more power efficient than 30 series?
Don't really miss the MUX switch on mine especially if you care about battery life (no hassle just switching onto the CPU integrated graphics when in silent/battery mode). The 6800m beats the Legion 5 Pro 3070 even without MUX and it's the same price point. No brainer really. Especially if you're the type of person who docks their laptop to a monitor for longer gaming sessions which I do anyway. You get that extra beast mode when hooked up to a monitor. Got mine for £1350 open box luckily and has the faster RAM as well as QHD. The legion 5 pro is currently selling for £1500 and a 3080 with at least a 5900HX processor is £2200. I also have a feeling that next year will be a year of the FSR to compete with DLSS especially as FSR will be integrated into the SteamDeck OS which will catapult FSR AI learning. And no, I don't miss the RTX. I have a desktop PC with a 3080 TI for that. And no, DLSS is only good for poor people who can't afford high end cards. The up-scaled image quality for DLSS is still shit compared to native. You get high FPS, but you introduce artefacts, lose sharpness, and input latency. No thanks. For raw power 6800m wins.
got the Asus Z Flow 13 with the XG Mobile RX 6850M XT. I haven’t seen any reviews/benchmarks yet of the RX 6850M XT, though I imagine it will perform at the very least closer to the or more often perform better than the XG 3080 (don’t really care tinkering with DLSS or enabling expensive ray tracing) I mostly prefer to run the latest AAA games at highest settings 1080p comfortably and consistently locked at 60FPS. Still very impressive 1080p results for just the 6800M.
I am looking at good performance at lower prices now... Don't really want to go into current gen cards. Would. Be good to know what are those differences now fsr is much more common.

Jarrod, you still haven't sent me your shipping address so you can get my death metal band's tee.
yes, the advantage edition has hardware issues sometimes sadly
I have mine from launch and never had an issue. I upgraded to 32 gigs of fancier/faster ram from Facebook classifieds used. I sold the slower 16 gigs for the same price as the faster 32 gigs. The newer amd advantages don’t seem to have any issues and is sold with faster ram. Plus a new version is coming out.
The crashing issue can be fixed now btw with bios update
@@shawnvanscooter1645 what new version is coming out? Should I wait?
its kind of sad seeing RTX barely beating RX6800m in some titles even with DLSS enabled -_- in some titles the difference is incredible but in some its just disappointing, I think that both options are great if u can get it at good price
my asus rog strix g15 just arrived today. it is performing damn well. thanks so much!
If I could have bought a 6800m with a mux switch, I would have picked that over the Legion 7
Right there with you on that 👍🏼
Uh oh! Price went from $1650 to $2000!
Price would increase up to $2k
@@Who-Uhm-Cares that's because at that point it would interfere with sales of 3060 and 3070.
The rx6800m laptop got more RGB so its definitely more Fps on this one,
Love the reviews Jarrod and thanks for this one. It's nice to see a direct comparison between the best laptops money can buy and the price difference. there awesome but I feel the 3080 would be the better deal (if on sale) since it has a MUX switch and garunteed to have faster memory but if the G15 AE was on sale as well I would go for it even though it doesn't have a MUX switch and (typically) slower memory.
But There still both amazing laptops with there own pros and cons!
After and From the M7 serial number g15 (Basically any laptops made after October) come with the faster x8 ram (at least here in my region India) So the only downside left is the mux switch but tbf it doesn't matter as mux switch mainly affects cpu bound games and almost all the cpu bound games are above the screen refresh rate so it doesn't matter.
i dont think so. i was trying to opt for advantage edition but came with slower memory. had to return it and opt for legion 5 pro but still came with slower one
You sure bro, i m thinking of buying the same from Flipkart
@@mehuljain5916 From the other reviews I saw and my own, after October g15 is being shipped with x8 ram but even if not you can later upgrade to 32gb x8 ddr4 because it will get a price drop due to ddr5 but all in all its still a beast even if shipped it x16 ram
@@justbuster2080 thx man 🙏
@@mehuljain5916 but it was out of stock so couldn't buy that any longer. Although it's all about rolling a dice(whether u'll get a slower or faster one) but you can replace that anytime with a newer set. I would but maybe after a few years, not immediately.

For Starfield:
Will the rx6800m with 12gb vram better than a 3080 with 8gb vram?
I want to play on a 4k tv
(Forza Motorsport, Phantom Liberty, Remnant II, Starfield... etc)
Watching this video on my own G15 Advantage Edition :)
Hope it's going well!
@@BasedHSVdude No complaint as of now. The "early production" bugs (WiFi not automatically connecting or Dolby Atmos randomly turned off after start-up) have been fixed. I have been using a 1440p external monitor, and 2k gaming performance has been great. E.g. God of War PC averaged 60-70 fps on high/ultra settings.
Almost every single G15 AE out there has had the random reboots.. mine including.
While doing what though? I mentioned it in my ranking video.

Hey mate! I have been watching many videos and have purchased Asus Rog strix scar g15 5800h RTX3080 at the best price possible(£1200)
I am always confused about the RTX 3080 8GB and 16gb.
Balanced at 1080p has a bit too little pixels to work. with.
@@Pamani_ I agree
I also thought it was this way initially but then I read two articles which state the opposite way and now i am confused..
was FSR utilized on the AMD chip?
The hdmi port on the G15 advantage edition bypass the igpu??? Good Video Jarrod!🙏🏻
2:26 Thats so funny that 3080's fps at 1440p is greater than its own fps at 1080p
Wow, nvidia launch already told that it would perform well on 1440p, other content creators also highlighted that
@@guntherschultz912 ohk
didn't know
It's a strange one but true, due to the ROP and raster ratio of the GPU. Higher resolutions benefit it slightly more than lower where the ROPs get flooded quicker.
Hey Jarrod, great stuff as always,
But I am wondering since you didn't mention it, were these results for the 6800M done with an external monitor or pure laptop hardware?
I think he already mention it near the beginning of the video, he was using external screen to bypass the integrated graphics
6850M XT is gunna be interesting to compare, especially the power draw comparison with these; the laptop space is really opening up in recent times
This aged like milk. Somehow the 6850M XT is worse
@@icyycold1094 that's not true, the couple bad reviews you saw were reviewers who had their power plans on low or quiet modes. This is common knowledge now. The 6850M is about 10% more powerful my friend

Hello Jarrod. Do you plan to review Legion Slim 7 any time soon
Hi there, thanks for great reviews. So much info! :) Would you be able to comment on rendering in real time, how do they compare when applying effects to Adobe After Effects or Premiere Pro footage? Especially in 4K? I don't play game but I need to buy a laptop for content creation. Thanks again.
Hey Jarrod, could you review the Legion 7 Slim? You already reviewed nearly the entire 2021 Legion lineup so it's kinda weird you haven't touched on that yet
But 3080
That price difference between a 3080 and even a lower 3080 is still at least $400 and at about $1000+ for a high end 3080. Considering the gap between the two isn't that great, that 6800M is a steal for the price to performance bank for buck. If you can get a 6800M laptop for $1500 that would be a steal.
its $1400 at best buy now untill it' gone
9:46 would you consider a normalised battery life test then? To predict typical power consumption during your usual testing?
the g15 advantage edition has the best battery life among all gaming laptops.
Good video and review👍👍😊
Hi jarrod . Nice video. What are you thoughts on Alienware advanced optimus? Is it better to keep or change to mux switch in bios?
desktop 3070ti is more powerful than desktop 6700xt obviously. but when it comes to mobile, it seems not the case. so could it be that 6000 series is more power efficient than 30 series?
Jarrod please add Forza Horizon 5 to your benchmark tests. Game has a built in benchmark mode.
Do you think the Asus G15 had higher 1% lows at 1080p because the vapour chamber cooling helps prevent its CPU from overheating and throttling?

@@gamingdragon1356 Yes it does. 3080 laptop with Mux switch performs exactly like a 3060 desktop, slightly better actually between a 3060-3060ti. That’s not even something to be proud of.
@@Who-Uhm-Cares The higher wattage 3080 behaves close to a 3070 or a 3060 ti but not the 3060 since the 6800m is about 10 percent slower than a 6700xt with slower laptop ram as well as the slower processor again this is nothing new.
If the desktop GPU = the mobile one then the desktop gpu is the one being gimped down since the desktop has more thermal and power headroom.
Bet u if u take the bottom plate carefully off the g15 r9 6800m and attach the gt ets 500 cooling pad to the bottom of the g15 laptop, u would get a huge performance boost to insane cooling temps you would get.
