- I couldn't find one on UA-cam (at the time of posting) and since this scene is so epic I thought I'd upload! "A Better Tomorrow II" is owned by Fortune Star Media, I don't own any content or any part of this video.

This scene is so incredible in terms of gunplay it's unbelievable. Chow Yun Fat is still the coolest actor in the world.
It's oddly poignant that it's Dean Shek playing the character he does. He was reviled but I loved him in all those old Kung Fu Comedy movies, I actually think he's one of stronger aspects of A Better Tomorrow Part 2. RIP Dean - a true legend.
Apologize to the rice RIGHT NOW!
FUCK YOU ! ... the 2 most iconic english phrases spoken in this movie
@Legion oh yes that is a good one! Lol
This always sticks with me
'There' no such thing in this world as "Forced To"'
Amen. Some just apply a monopoly of force, doesn't mean you have no option for recourse.
*cocks back* fuck you!
There's always options, there just not always good ones.
It's still a hugely missed opportunity that Chow Yun Fat isn't in a John Wick movie. He's the OG in gun-fu.
I wonder if they tried to get him for a film in the franchise at any point or maybe in the future
He's too good for that series.
Damn right !
That's what I thought!
Ken is the most badass restaurateur ever.
This shoot-out is easily one of the best in all John Woo movies. It has Woo's first and best sliding-while-shooting action as well.
yea the sliding while shooting scene... indisputably classic. rewatching it NOW tho, it's got some obvious continuity issues 😬
@@kixwho Most movie shoot-out scenes have those in one way or the other, I'd say, not just those in John Woo movie. They are prone to such because of the hectic filming and editing.
Hard to think that it gets even better in the end scene...proper action. One of the all time greats
Personally to me 2nd best to John woo hospital scene in terms of choreography but in terms of hard hitting this scene and in the first part in the restaurant always carry strong brothership vibes.
3:07 The iconic SPAS-12 with yet another movie appearance.
It was always especially lethal looking for a 12 gauge. Matter of fact, so was that variation of the Mossberg 500 with that perforated heat shield over the barrel.
Iconic might be too much
What about...Legendary!
Fun fact. If you're using Slugs or blanks, you need to pump it.
If you're using standard buckshot you don't
@@mjpraetorian4386 it actually makes sense
The guy that he is with is a spaz
This scene was masterpiece
Love the slow motion
I still find it interesting that John Woo had the attention to detail that so many action directors are lacking these days...stray bullets go somewhere, in fact I think it makes it look like the protagonist is in a lot more danger if they dive out of the way of a hail of bullets and you see where the bullet would have hit in a cloud of dust. Gives weight to the idea that that hole could have been put in them if they didn't move.
Yeah that is why John Woo got his stint in Hollywood too back in the day. Then they got rid of him. But also this scene is quite silly... Killing that many people and gun play does leave an affect on you.... Its filmed like a video game level.
@@Bone74838 Yeah, but not everyone came out alive...Chow Yun Fat is like the chinese Sean Bean of getting killed off in movies. Oh well, I still watch John Woo movies for the same reason I enjoy John Wick movies...something about the gun porn :D
@@Bone74838 well that criticism could be used on literally every single action film ever though
@@chrishunter8305 There you go ;)
The shotgun in hard boiled is a great example of this
Really loved his monologue. Shit was badass
I don't know why, but this have a more motivating speech than Rocky. Like not how to be a winner but how to be a true boss.
"Fxxx you" > "Say hello to my lil friend"
ahead of its time
This scene felt very modern like it was from 2007 and not from 1987
John Woo is a genius.
my husband got me into these films and i can see why he makes a stoic face when i go to the range with him
I like this scene more than ending scene
exactly!! same here
Same
a lot of Akira vibes, right? ;)
Yes. It is filmed better.
Whats the context of the scene and why is the man crying over a photo
CGI can make some impossible things look realistic but always looks like a cartoon when it replaces practical effects. Scene is a hundred times better than most shootouts you see in movies today (though I wish there was a reload on those Beretta's)
I wish they would use blood packs and real partical effects today. John Wick would be so much better without the cgi blood. And I can´t understand, why they even use CGI for blood. Ok its easier to shoot and repeat filming scenes, but it doesn´t cost much more and got a much better effect and weight
3:22 IDK bit in my opinion this is one of the coolest scene in this movie
Reminds me of Scarface: "Say hello to my little friend!"
@@FilmaticProductions me too
But what about this 5:45
Can you speak English?
Chow Yun Fat: Fack you!
Before john wick we have a "better tomorrow".👍
The creator of John Wick was heavily inspired by John Woo. John Wick is basically John Woo's movie The Killer.
Imo Johnnie To is very underrated. Very different approach though.
the gun effects look better than most hollywood movies out there nowadays
@Max William Lauf that's cool. No wonder it felt so satisfying lol.
@Max William Lauf He would use full load blanks (which are still dangerous at close range) but he also had this idea in his head that hollywood seams to forget...stray bullets go somewhere. Ever notice the difference on how much of the scenery gets wrecked in a John Woo shootout? Even in something like John Wick, the shootouts feel too clean, like any shot that misses was just a blank. That's what made John Woo special, attention to detail :)
That's cos they didn't "Alec Baldwin" it!
@@warrenleezy bruuuh
Dude the gun blasts in the this clip is orgasmic AF
Anyone who plays video games will recognize this shootout as an escort mission. :)
This entire sequence is only lit by photofloods in the ceiling. Incredible. Sometimes that's all you need, people.
RIP Dean Shek, forever Hong Kong Charlie Choplin, legend forever.
Chow Yun Fat, the Gun Fu master before John Wick.
Anyone know why Chow Yun Fatt wasn't approached to be in the John Wick Franchise?
@@leadsin99er Maybe its because of having to speak english he's around his golden years at this point now at 66. However, that idea of hin being there would have been amazing 🙏🏻
One is a classic masterpiece of Hong Kong cinema, the other is an overrated, big budget hollywood turkey.
Is that Jackie Chan? The man who is crying over the picture of a woman?
@@KH0LRA It sure would be great to see him in a small role, possibly a retired hit man that John Wick knew from his days as the Boogeyman.
His face when he shoots the guy in the window scares me. It's like he's a demon or something.
I believe this is the movie where John Woo truly perfected his style. The original is still iconic but he was still trying to find his true cinematic language.
That SPAS 12 shotgun is a cannon!
Im gonna honest here...if a an Abrams cannon and a Shotgun had a baby
The SPAS-12 would be what comes out!
Perfection, elegance and Lethality a perfect combo!
Joseph Koo's music score is filled with pathos and sadness. He also wrote music for Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury(1972).
For the record this is not “gun-Fu” this genre is known as “The Heroic Bloodshed.”
100%, old school fans know. They also know that Chow's sidekick here is a Kung Fu Comedy legend - Dean Shek (RIP). Love him in this movie.
I mean they both sound cool in my honest opinion
Gun-fun sounds like a perfect pun!
This is how Hong Kong make their iconic movies, wif limitations comes creativity.
3:27 fucking beautiful
Wow, a young Chow Yun-Fat. This .is a great scene. I really liked him in the Replacement Killers
A better Tomorrow 2 is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and AWESOMELY STUNNING
Better than the so called gunplay that is Hollywood 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Chow Yun Fatt was better in his Hongkong films that were sometimes shot in the US, than his actual US made movies.
That goes for most Asian stars, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh, Donnie Yen...their Hong Kong films were far superior than anything they did in Hollywood
@@cyborgchicken3502 not sure about Jackie Chan since we still see some of his brilliance in Rush Hour trilogy, The Tuxedo etc..
@leadsin99er That is because US made movies with Asian leads are very poorly written. As the directors and producer are mainly expecting the Asian leads to litterally carry the whole movie production. Seeing as their Asian made movies were such a hit.
Everyone favourite the shootout and that epic background soundtrack.👍
Can't find that song anywhere. not in the official soundtrack. It seems to be just for the movie.
He shot that second to last guy like 23 times!!!
Goodness! That pump action is some bad ass gun
The SPAS12...italian, and tried to be marketed as law enforcement semi-auto shotgun (selectable between semi and pump)...only problem is the damn thing was bloody heavy and not the most reliable...still as iconic as the MR Desert Eagle though :)
The point is not defeating your enemy. The point is to empty your guns.
Oh no, the point is to defeat the enemy, but you have to make sure they're not getting back up again. The first bullet might have done it, the rest were insurance policies.
@@chrishunter8305wisdom at its finest
Chow yun fat and John woo made the beautiful genre of gun fu.
John Woo is a god and Chow Yun Fat is his apostle
AMEN!!

Good effects I watch 10 times
The original John wick lol
I love Ken's speech here. Very motivating.
Fantastic scene!
2:51 This background synth music is my favorite. Sounds gritty and raw which sets off a violent atmosphere.
The original John Wick.
Watch John Woo's The Killer.
thats not a shotgun he's using thats a gotdamned cannon holy shit O_O
that's funny because in the movie snatch when someone brought that Spaz12 to a heist another thought it was overkill and referred to it as an anti-aircraft gun
Thats the Italian weapons companies for you my dear friend
Oh...italy called...they say "thanks for the compliment!"
5:19 - 5:23 Super Smash Bros. Melee's announcer (playing the assassin getting shot)
I so much love this guy
This scene is so BADASS!!!
Amazing use of Peter Gabriel's Birdy score.
Indeed bro, the score is so legendary like it was made for the movie, it gives me goosebumps every time I hear it...
There will never be anything like it again

It was criminal that the next entry in the series did not continue the mythology of Mark.

Chow Yun Fat is trying to console Jackie Chan although he must be crying over something that he lost. Don't worry everything is going to be okay.
That's Dean Shek not Jackie. Although it got me confused for a hot minute
@@baloog8 My bad!!! It looks just like Jackie Chan a little bit and I didn't know that was his name. Please forgive me and don't be so hard on me.

Man i love the soundtrack here but can't find it anywhere.
The one playing where the fight breaks out is the theme from the 1984 Nic Cage movie Birdy, the one where he's sliding down the stairs is called Mark's theme :)
@@DavidLi1231 Thank you so much!. People need to understand that replying to videos can mean a lot to people. Yes, it was the theme from the movie Birdie. thank you.
The most underappreciated aspect of this scene is the stolen music (Birdie's Flight), it worked brilliantly in the Restaurant shootout in the first movie and is skilfully used here. ua-cam.com/video/p9Hx067Z64A/v-deo.html

Don’t apologize for the rice. Apologize because you’re using those horrible remastered sound effects. The gun’s sound like something a college student would post on UA-cam to pass. Use the original mono gun noises
