Not my favorite Turisas song by far, but the whole album this was taken off of was pretty great. I hope they do something new soon, think the last album was "Turisas 2013".

If you’re going to be doing more Turisas, then may I suggest...
    “Battle Metal” (the new version)
    “Holmgard and Beyond”
    “Stand Up and Fight”
    “Dneiper Rapids”
    “Cursed Be Iron”
And one of my personal favorites...
    “Miklagard Overture”

It’s difficult to tell in this song, but there is a full time violinist in the band. In their first few albums they had a full time accordionist! For reactions, I’d recommend checking out their earlier live videos or newer studio albums.

Loved the video guys, Always a great time when I can share music that inspires me with folks I like.
This song is not technically from a concept album, though Turisas' Stand Up And Fight album is very much about fighting based on the name.
Glad y'all liked it! Thanks for the reaction!

Regarding the "Why are there so many viking concept-albums?" question, I'd venture a guess that it's because of the skaldic nature of Norse culture. Song and poetry was a pretty important part of the history, there's a lot of poems written about the old kings and heroes. It's less work to adapt it to modern music, in a sense, since the stories are already written in the form of poetry.

This was my first turisas album. Never thought you guys would ever hear them. Hopefully you guys will hear more from them.
Should do their song "battle metal" with the music video. The music video was made with the help of theor fans sending in clips the band used to make the video. Pretty cool.

  • @SKULLEDBUICK

Boy, do I have some suggestions for other songs by this band lmao.
You'd probably enjoy lyrically breaking down Piece By Piece. It's one of the very few Turisas songs based in the current day.
Greek Fire & Cursed Be Iron are two of their heavier tracks. Personal favorites.
Stand Up And Fight is a solid one, as well as Battle Metal. Probably their two most known tracks, maybe.
They've also done a cover of Boney M.'s Rasputin; also a very popular track. Disco turned metal. Great stuff.
A Portage To The Unknown is also a very good one. It's really got that "sailing at sea" vibe, with the group singing & accordions and whatnot.
Very honorable mentions: The Land Of Hope And Glory, Rex Regi Rebellis, Midnight Sunrise, End Of An Empire, The Dnieper Rapids, and, of course, Miklagard Overture.
Also, for more Norse pride songs lol, check out more Tyr.
    -Shadow Of The Swastika
    -Hold The Heathen Hammer High
-The rest of their discography, tbh.

The main reason why you don’t have too many bands tackling British and English history is it’s currently considered a taboo to show any degree of patriotism in the UK. Having said that Iron Maiden have tackled some British history and a much more “cult” band wolves of Avalon have done a couple of great historically based records.

The Norsemen (Vikings were only those who sailed out), have a long history and they accomplished a lot of things... amazing sailors, discovered Vinland (America), they travelled as far as Miklagard (today's Istanbul). Along the way they conquered and traded..
As a Norwegian and a massive "Norse history" nerd it's still a bit difficult to put words to exactly WHY the Norsemen, their mythology, culture, faith... is so special to us.
It could be their state of mind? The "I welcome death, for I know I will enter Valhall! I don't care what you throw at me I will fight on!" mentality.. or how Christianity was forced upon them, and how a few stood up to the "tyrants" that were the first ture Christian Kings of Norway.
Also in general they have a very rich and exciting history, especially before the country was united into one kingdom, with Kings and Jarl's fighting among each other.
The conquests in the UK and Ireland.. France.. Spain... the Varangian Guard in Miklagard (Yep, the emperor's elite guard were vikings).
It was maybe a "short" period, from around 650 A.D. up until 1066 A.D. (tho some raids still happened after that..).
It could also be very individual as to "why are your ancestors so special to you?"
As for metal... it's also very much the feeling and atmosphere of our nature. Living by the North Sea, or deep in the woods or high up in the mountains. One of the elements that made Norwegian Black Metal stand out so much in the beginning.. they sort of captured that atmosphere in their music.
Could probably go on for hours, haha! A huge subject to talk about since it involves soo much different things and historical events,
but something near and dear to my heart (and soul). So before I end up writing a massive wall of text I'll cut it here :P
Oh, yeah.. speaking of the Norsemen. Wardruna has some nice songs ;) Like "Helvegen" (if you do it, please do the original one and not the one with Aurora. It's a good version for sure, but the OG is by far the best) or "Jara".

To the point of people claiming Vikings in ancestry vs. other European cultures... My ancestry is 100% German, with all my ancestors coming to the USA prior to WW1. However, when you talk about Germany of the past and having pride of your heritage, people automatically start thinking Nazis.

Interesting question you raise about why the scandinavians are so proud about their viking heretage.. being a scandinavian myself i can say that our relationship to the viking heritage is a complex one. In the mainstream here patriotism and being proud of ones roots are considered a bad thing here and many ppl even would call that borderline rasism.. In fact the level of patriotism that is common in the states would be considered extreme and offensive over here to many ppl..Also our history and what we are today is so far appart that some ppl are still facinated by it even if its not always a popular opinion.. The scandinavian ppl have a long tradition of almost constant war but the last couple of hundred years we have stayed away from it so our history seems so far from where we are now. The vikings also symbolise something else here and that is kind of a rebel thing. Historically scandinavia didnt find christianity it was forced apon us... So that is why there is a connection between some of those who are against christianity and those who are into the viking culture.. Its kind of a rise against the oppressor so to speak (even if its a late one).. I think its more of a symbolic statement. Also what many get wrong is that viking was a nationality.. They sometimes say norsemen and ppl think norwegians but basically norsemen were just ppl from the north.. There were no real norway, denmark or sweden at that time.. More like tribes.. Viking isnt really something you are its something you do.. Its when you go on a travel.. So To travel on a ship for war or trade is being a viking.. Gender or nationality doesnt really have much to do with it.. Sorry for the long rant, and for my poor english.

Tbh, If I had viking blood in me, even if it's just 1% I would much more prefer to talk about that 1% instead of my 60% dutch and 19% German and 20% French part. I think it's just because they are always described as barbaric big strong guys that were fierce. Same goes thing with Greece people being proud to tell you about the Spartans and the ancient Greeks. I don't know why Vikings are such a big thing in music though. I just feel like Scandinavians are quite on their own and value ancestry more than a lot of other countries in a way that they try to implement it in a lot of things for example music.

Oh, they have - _once._ *A year ago, 5 Aug 2018:* ua-cam.com/video/lKY7vMq1_5w/v-deo.html - "देवदेवं (Devadevam)" - though they _apparently_ couldn't figure out how to attach the full title *from the album* on the video, just the English transliteration. On the Rotting Christ channel, you can see the full titles... _Still_ waiting for the next Rotting Christ reaction video, but since apparently nobody is shelling enough $$$ for it, it remains in limbo. Too bad, I'd like to see if song titles like "Ветры злые" (Russian for "Evil Winds"), "זה נגמר (Ze Nigmar)", "Ἐλθὲ κύριε (Elthe Kyrie)", and in deed, "χξϛʹ" (the number 666 written in Greek numerals) _can_ be successfully attached to a Vin and Sori video. Yeah, I probably _sound_ salty to some users, but I have watched Vin and Sori reactions to *495 songs* since 5 Oct 2018, and I am starting to think that 500 might be a nice round number to quit this channel, because the system for the song selection is so illogical. Ah, there went many minutes I'll never get back into composing this reply because I'm a slow writer since *I can't touch type* and yet I want to try to write grammatically mostly correct and cohesive sentences...

This guy looks triggered by the fact that this girl feels her European genes in her heart by saying these things. Not to "offend" anyone, but the heritage of black people for the most part deals with slavery. And if you say thats racist because Europeans did it, Arabs and Jews also were enslaving Africans. Whether you call this "supremacy" or not, this is a fact of history. This is why its hard to be proud of your ancestry as a black person and this is why they result to skepticism and emotional responses.
However they should be proud of their pre-colonized culture. It had its interesting things that should be researched.
And there are bands that deal with anglo-saxon/british paganism.
