Extra options for cheap groceries in Perth: Spudshed and Farmer Jacks. Only a handful of locations for each one. Spudshed is particularly good for cheap veggies and frozen seafood, Farmer Jacks is pretty good for bulk red meat.

I live on the east coast, but travelled to Perth many times. It is a lovely lovely city. But you have to keep in mind that it is one of the most isolated cities in the world. This brings challenges of limited supply of goods and services, and of limited career opportunities. Still plenty, but not what you would get in a bigger city like Cape Town or those in the East coast of Australia. I think if you temper your expectations in these two areas, the lifestyle will more than make up for it. Really depends on what is important to you.

Oh and on the bureaucracy…does my head in! As a 50 year permanent resident who feels very Aussie in my heart, I have started the process to get citizenship and make it official many times but quickly lost the will to live and gave up in frustration. Recently kicked the process off again which took me 5 days just to fill in the paperwork and being asked the same questions 10 times. Despite having parents and siblings who are citizens and passing all the necessary checks it is going to take up to 18 months to grant, and then up to another 6 for the ceremony….aaahhhh!! Doesn’t matter what level of government you deal with or what department, it is the same. Seems they like to create work for themselves to justify their jobs!
