He isn't Indian in the movie it's just a profile he created to do something he likes (acting and directing) . In the movie they are humanoid advanced robots who came to earth around 450 BC so neither of them have nationalities, they just choose to live in those regions so the actor (not) being Indian has no effect on the storyline 😁🤷♀ hence no need to cast an actual Indian here..

@@Saiegg I think it's better they didn't try to please the Indian Market this way, it would look forced honestly. The movie is more intended to sell in the states and they are catering to the new audiences (trying) without hurting the old ones by giving a different start to the phase 4 which is quite different from its usual action stuffed work (learned from mistakes), it's a gamble but due to good direction it was presented well (philosophical conversations). So it's understandable they'd want star power to hold onto the audience they created and still bring new ones in. The basic reason this cast is so diverse is because they are advanced robots so they didn't need to worry about locations, backstorys, birth place, so we may expect more actors to play more eternal from other universes but for now getting people who act well, sell well and have hold in the states was the right thing in my opinion 🤷♀ it's okk if you disagree but I just felt happy that kingo's friend was a proper Indian, that felt better than having a straight up super hero, they'd want to see how audiences react to it so we can hope for an Indian super hero since we do have the power of our population 😂
If Hrithik had been cast as the Indian character, it would have doubled the fun and would have been accurate to its best.

I'm disappointed with Marvel. Obviously there are some cringey elements in bollywood but when it comes to international representation of bollywood they should be respectful. If they did minimum research they'd know how many talented dancers/actors are here and if their actors can't match that level why they even dare to try?? About 2:00. The answer is power and weight. Hollywood is okay to hire actresses cuz role for women aren't as heavily weighed as role for men. Male actors drive Hollywood movies while actresses there are just in those movies. They would not want hire someone from other industry to drive their movies. Pretty natural. And established stars in India would not do inconsequential roles in Hollywood. Which is why you see actors who are not necessarily stars in India do get some roles in Hollywood movies, like Ali Fazal. The only exception to this phenomenon is Priyanka Chopra and that's cuz she already had friends in Hollywood before she decided to move there who helped her getting important roles.
It's good to see you now understand the frustration of Indians everytime Hollywood presents a stereotyped version of an Indian character 🙄
Hollywood always wants a little “American” actors even though they being an ethnic character. I think they are afraid they won’t even understand the culture themselves. It’s definitely a mixed opportunity for this one.

Not sure what's really going on in the dance sequence and why they're wearing those clothes but I think that could be another major reason why this looks so stereotypical as that kind of clothing in Indian dance sequences looks so ancient.

I'll be honest, I was REALLY DISAPPOINTED when I saw that there was an "INDIAN" character BUT they didn't include any actor from India. I had the exact same reaction like why.
Also seeing the way Kunal was dancing, no offense and kudos to him for trying, it was really cringy the way Bollywood is still portrayed.
I don't see how that turns out to be a problem that the actor wasn't indian.
Indians have played characters that weren't always indian. So, what seems to be disappointing here?

It's just I WOULD LOVE to see someone from India being included in Marvel universe and while hopefully while it might happen someday, this moment was perfect opportunity to cast someone from India so that's why I was a bit sad on not casting anyone from India. Please don't make it into "something having to do with India - Pakistan".

I knew as soon as the trailer dropped that the dance scene would be disappointing 😂, I even had the thought tht they should have appointed sanjay leela to direct just tht sequence otherwise was going to be a white gaze type thing and it probably is.
Hrithik Roshan would've worked really well in this role as he have that God like body and charm and considering eternals are godlike characters it would've worked perfectly

That Bollywood dance sequence felt like I was watching a cheesy disney tv movie lol. They could have hired a composer from bollywood to create the music for the dance sequence, and a proper choreographer from bollywood and made a better choice with kumail's outfit (what on earth was that? Never seen a bollywood movie where such an outfit has been worn by any actor).
Hrithik has already signed with big hollywood agency and he has everything that would take to get done the job and of course he is super huge in india still he was not considered for the role eventhough he can get accents and also fit whatever role they give he is really a good actor

I’ve never liked the stereotyped south Asian characters that kumail plays. Always always always looks so disingenuous and impossible to relate to. I relate better with jaby and achara than kumail - even in terms of understanding the nuances of south Asian sentiments.

Times are changing now, but it has not always been like that. You’d be surprised to know how many roles like “Terrorist No. 2” or “Indian Man” have been rejected by Kumail, Kal, and their likes. After a point, you do what you’re being offered, and these were the only roles on offer.

I’m always intrigued whenever Hollywood incorporates Bollywood, but I always keep my expectations low for those dance sequences. If they really want it authentic, they need to use experienced South Asian directors for how it’s shot.
I’m no expert, but camera movements and lighting are the big differences between Bollywood dances vs Hollywood ones.

Honestly , I don't mind them casting South Asians from wherever , it's good representation if it's done in right spirit and eventually more actors from either side of the border will get even more representation which is frankly mind-blowing , as for Kumail 's casting , he's a big comedian and is part of the same culture and suits the role well, it's good he got the chance , in future we'll see more of South Asians around Hollywood , let this be a good start

Yes, yes, this is exactly what I said when the first trailer came out. If you wanna have an Indian character, cast someone who is from India. Else it perpetuates and cements the stereotypes and cliches associated with Bollywood in the minds of the Western Audiences.

Actually he talks about it in interviews he thinks he plays same roles in Indian films like dancing or doing same actions. Hritik playdcside roles in many films or does 1or2 movies in 2-3 yrs.
He is very funny in his interview - saw him in a chelsea handler interview, do think he is funny naturally. Yea even I did not get the big Sick, thought it was over hyped.
May be that's the Marvel's (read Kevin Feige's) way of asking Hrithik Roshan to join them in the future, since it will give Hrithik a push to come to them

One of the things I liked was the AMWF (Asian male, White female) chemistry between Thena and Gilgamesh. Although it was mostly platonic and they of course killed Don lee's character Gilgamesh in the movie. It's still a step forward for positive Asian male representation in a Hollywood movie. We have seen soooooo many Asian Woman, White Man couples (Yellow fever, Lotus blossom troupe) in the Hollywood movies it was about damn.

This is quite expected from Marvel... They try to show inclusiveness for Indian ethnicity people but only make a half hearted attempt in it. They casted a guy named Jay Ali in their daredevil series and gave him a couple of Hindi dialogues. He ruined it. Jaby and Achara not knowing the language would by far pronounce those Hindi words better. You don't expect someone who looks Indian to be unable to speak an Indian language on screen...
The one of the reason that i think that why marvel had not cast an Indian actor like Hrithik as marvel have their own very complex contracts and with the same time hrithik and tiger have signed their own movies for next atleast 5 years.
Apart from that stars like hrithik generally themself produce their movie and it is but obvious that it will reach atleast 300 crores. So, even if I would have been in this scenario then it is better to make 5 movies make atleast 1500 crores than to make a debut in a completely new market.
Hrithik in Marvel would have made this movie way more interesting. When you need someone to play a bollywood star then hire one 😑

I was excited for this scene because I love Bollywood but like the Lucy Hale Cinderella movie, they went off the ball.
I like the camera movements and the colors and when you see the extras dancing, it felt Bollywood esque.
But seeing Kingo dance, it could have been way better. I am with you there.
