- Pokemon GBA Real vs. Fake Pokemon Games - Real vs Fake Pokemon Emerald - How To Spot a Real or Fake GBA Game Boy Advance Pokemon Game - Simple Easy Spot Differences Between Real and Fake GBA Pokemon Game Cartridges
In this video I go over the step by step instructions, guide, tutorial, video help on how to spot the main differences between real and fake GBA Game Boy Advance Pokemon Games Emerald, Ruby, Saphire
A thing to note
Every time a video like this is released, fakes seem to get more and more convincing. I fear that one day we'll have fakes that are impossible to distinguish from original ones
I shit you not, they probably have people look at videos like these to try and replicate the original carts better. I bet any amount of bootleg merch they do this.
Yep, people are starting to add the four golden rectangles and the number imprints to fake cartridges.
The only completely legit ways you can tell if a game is fake is if it fails to connect to the GameCube games or the DS games.
If it wasn't for the collector market creating a 500% or more increase in price, the fakes wouldn't exist.
Yep, this is why you need a way to dump GB and GBA cartridges. With those, it'll be easy to tell whether you have a legit or fake cartridge.
Who‘s also in the „Just realized my cartridge is fake“-Squad?
Dude, this hurts so bad.... :(
Same here unfortunately, I beat the game two years ago. The only difference being that after you beat Wallace the save file will corrupt and not let you continue to post game
mine was all fake because it has a black housing
Same
I realized bc it wouldn't let me save my progress in the battle frontier
I got my emerald cartridge when I was in 6th grade from a retro arcade shop in the mall. Just recently I got a real pokemon ruby cartridge, which made me wonder if my emerald was real or not. I took it apart and it was fake. I have over 200 hours on a fake cartridge lol.
That sucks bro that’s my worst nightmare
i loved my pokemon but a have a fake one so heck i got scammed
but the memories were real
you still played it didn't you?
does it really matter, if you cant notice any difference? 😅
i decided to go back and finish the pokedex for my Pokémon Platinum save but sadly i found out the Emerald cartridge i’ve had for years is bootleg and i can’t transfer any pokémon to my Platinum :/
You can't transfer Pokemon outside of Pal Park
I'm pretty dang sure my Emerald is real. I've watched this and a couple other videos to spot the differences and everything seems good. I was a bit worried when I saw SOME of the little holes in the back of the cartridge but then I realized that the real ones have some of them in that location too, but the fake has lots more in other random places. I'm pretty sure the only thing that's different is that in the top left corner of the circuit board on the back, the 4 rectangles are there, but the 2 closest ones to the side don't have numbers inside of them. Do you think this is real or fake?
Thank you so much, I was worried I bought a fake one but it’s definitely legit.
Super helpful, thank you. I just ordered an Emerald cartridge on eBay for an absurdly good price ($35 USD), and then checked here and I'm like "yeah it was too good to be true..." - and then cancelled my order (thankfully eBay is good with this kind of thing).
Pretty sure Ebay's policy is if it's fake they'll refund you regardless. So coulda yoinked the fake from the scammer and kept your money.
I think I realized the firered cartridge I was given, is a fake😂No wonder I couldn’t migrate the pokemon to my soulsilver LOL
but you can migrate your pokemon by using fake pokemon game to real game
@@user-pe5by5mf6l Really? 😳oh i could try that, thank you
@@rosanna5526 oh... sorry, it's not working haha😅 but in case, it works if you put the real game on the fake cartridge.
@@user-pe5by5mf6lNo you can’t, not always at least. I accidentally bought a fake FireRed and couldn’t migrate. Then I bought a real one and could.
Thanks a lot for making this. Emerald is now 80€ and I really don't want to buy a fake.
I’m actually surprised there’s a huge value markup on these games. I just casually have them sitting on my shelf.
I know they’re real because I was the one that bought them in 2005 at a Walmart.
what’s your asking price😂??
Same. I lost my saphire edition and got a smaragd (emerald) as a backup. I need to change the ingame battery tho.
Who cares what they’re worth if you nerds never sell them
You just helped me purchase a genuine copy of Pokémon Emerald, thank you!
If you're from English speaking countries outside the US, beware that the most common fake Pokémon GBA cartridges use the US sticker and almost never the ones from the country they're sold in like Europe or Australia - eBay is just littered with fakes being sold as "authentic" with the pooly reproduced American stickers instead of the correct regional ones.
I bought mine 5 years ago without even thinking about fake ones being out in the world. Thanks to this video I know mine is somehow real because it checks every box under the real category. Thank you!!!❤❤
So I have one that doesn't have the number on the front above the seal but everything else is right. It's seen some use does that mean it real or still fske
Probably real if the internals look legit
Although uncommon, legit copies of the game may not come with the number. For sure though, your copy is authentic 👌🏻
Besides what was mentioned is there truly any difference in the gameplay between a factory cart and a "fake" one? Im pretty sure my ebay order was for a fake one but if it plays them idgaf.
fake will have trouble transferring pokemon from game to game
does anything actually change if you have a fake cartridge?
I've had save files corrupted on fake carts where you have to start the game over.
@@poke_ref do you know any sellers who sell real copies?
@@thezenxilin4916 ebay but its 200 dollars minimum for a copy with just the cart. just emulate.
So I got Fire, Leaf, Saphire, Ruby, and Emerald a few months ago but since I got it for like 20$ I had my suspicion that it was fake and for now it's been functioning okay for a fake. So my question is that is it fine if you get a fake and everything is working fine because for me I was not buying it for how old it is. I brought it so that I can play the game.
The issue I've had with fakes is the save files get corrupted at some point during my playthrough which is frustrating. With that said I accidentally bought the fakes like 10 years ago, they might be better quality now.
@@poke_ref yeah I can understand why you get angry at this since you probably played a lot and when you file was corrupted it must of made you think that all the time you put in the game was wasted I am sorry about that.
Did you finish the game
Playing the game worked fine, you can't trade to future games though
i have a real one but mine was missing the number stamp. maybe cus of the age. the label does not look like a reprint and looks just right for its time. so i had to open mine up and have a look and it was original. later on i was able to spot 2 lines which would appear to be the number stamp.. i looked for over 30 minutes so sometimes its hard to tell. some number stamp are alot weaker than others but this is a very good guide!
I have the same copy I bought myself from Walmart way back in 2002 and the lable has seen better days that stamp has long since been decimated by young me trying to get it to go away
i hate fakes, but since they make them i sell them on ebay for profit since im poor but i sell them at a fraction of the price of authentic ones, its a cheap way to enjoy the game but not for collectors , i hate it but you have to do what you have to do to survive.
I bought mine for hella cheap so I thought it was fake. Turns out that It's real! Thanks
Ah, man. Just found out my version I've had for years is fake. Don't remember where I got it but damn. That's a friggin bummer.
The little numbers printed on mine, one of them is printed in the nintendo seal, and the other one is just above the seal. Is it original or fake?
my clownass just realized I didn’t even need to check mine when I remembered I transferred my lvl 100 torchic to my pkm plat cartridge a year ago 😭 I had forgotten
Ty I was almost going to buy a fake one
Thanks man. I just found my old emerald and thanks to u I know it's an OG
Just found a Gameboy micro with Pokemon emerald in and it's a legit copy! Thank you!!!
Question I have the emerald game and it has everything your real one has but the only thing is missing is the indent number on the front! That's all that's missing I have the shimmer cover on the front the four squares shoot it looks exactly like yours but like I said its missing the front indent numbers... Real or fake?
Maybe real game, replacement sticker? Not sure
Same, everything checked out with this video, except for the indent number and some of the holographic. There's holographic left on the top right of the sticker too, but not on the left... could the number, or some of the holographic affect be worn away over time?
All gba games have that indent number , so... you know the answer :/
@@arisberriosfontecilla2395 I actually just tried trading pokemon to my soul silver from emerald and it works!! Last I heard fake ones don't allow you to do that hmm maybe over time my indent number faded I've had this game since it first came out back in 2004
@@ShaDowNit1 gotta tell you, I'm really surprised by that, cause I got mine too from day 1 and the number is still there clear as crystal, and as far as I know, all gba cartridges have those numbers in the label. I'm shocked that it worked, but also happy for you that it does 👍
Might be a dumb question, but is it worth getting a fake copy if it's much cheaper and I'm not interested in trading between games? How often do they break down?
Some people say they have played like 200 hours with no problems. Some say they have safed once and their whole game was deleted... Try to get an original.. Cant be that hard. If not buy several fakes and look which one works the best.
@@rickmortyson4861 it's not hard to get an original it's just expensive. I see fakes of Emerald going for as low as $10 on ebay, vs $150-$200 for guaranteed legit ones.
(In the $50-$110 range you don't know what you're getting generally).
If you have a fake cartridge, can you still trade and fight using the GBA cable?
Damn I got lucky mine looks brand spanking new, and it’s authentic.
I had a mini heart attack becuase my friend told me my emerald copy was fake, but after watching this video I was like THANK GOD bro. I got shiny crobat and I got Pokerus during my playthrough, guess my friend was just jealous
My dad’s friend gave me a copy of Pokémon Emerald a few months ago, along with a lot of other games. Got to talking to a friend today at school about it, since he had his GBA out and explained his copy was pirated. Just checked mine, and it is in fact a real copy, which is super cool. Now I don’t know what to do with my life considering I barely play it xD
Just sell it lol. To me I’ll buy it I want a real copy bro.
Another thing to note: teh real cartridge has a small battery for a running clock included, where the fake on does not. I found that to be the most obvious way to understand that my cartridge was sadly a fake. I am sad now. Just bought it on eBay :'( Because all the rest is pretty damn close to the original.
I bought one from GameStop just today for $95 that they assured me was authentic. Just checked it against my OG cart from 2005, and yep it’s fake. Thanks for the info I’ve gotta return it now
Can there be a real one without the number on the front? Mine looks exactly the same on the back, has the battery, the foil on the front and fit perfectly on the gameboy advance, but doesn’t have that number on the front sticker
Keep looking for it, they might be in a different spot in the front sticker. I couldn’t find my fire red one but then I found it under the official Nintendo stamp
It's also possible that the game was refurbished so the sticker got replaced, in this case, the only sure option is to open the game and check the inside
I just bought one and noticed that the 'ESRS' sticker isnt on mine, and the quality seal is on the opposite side. All other aspects check out. Is this real?
They did these games in mass production, so all should follow the same pattern in terms of labels. If there is something missing, that is a proof it is fake. If you are missing something AND have a logo moved to a different place, that is the equivalent of having "fake" tattooed on the forehead
@@arisberriosfontecilla2395 Appreciate the response, but im quite sure that the logos can vary based on what country they were sold (i.e. Australia says "AGB-BPEP-AUS" on the australian cartridge, etc)
I know this is old, and you've probably figured it out right now, but I think that this is just the Australian version, as my AUS DS games have no rating of any sort, even if the US ones normally would. If everything else checks out it's probably fine. (Keep in mind, I'm no game verifier, and I don't own any GBA games.)
U just saved me like £200 thanks for this video
obvious avoid: ''swirly'' designed firered and leafgreen carts or ''bubbly'' designed carts on the stickers.
Thanks for this. Saved me from purchasing a fake
Do they both work or does the fake crash your gameboy or something similar?
For DS games at least, fakes usually work fine, they just often suffer from saving issues and have a short lifespan. It's up to you.
personally for me as long as it works I'm happy
It appears I bought a fake one 😅 I’m still gonna enjoy and play it though
Where did you buy the fake one? And how much?
I have 2 copies, one is not as shiny but PCB is 100% real. It has a stamp of 41, they are both US versions. My other one that's CIB has 2 a set stamped being 00 and under it also stamped E4 question is.. is the 41 real or is it just a repro shell
I just bought cartridges for Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red, and Leaf Green and they're all fake... Oh well, 30 bucks is still good for a pack of five games
It might be cheap for fakes but you can’t transfer to Gen4 games
I bought a fake Pokémon emerald from Ali express, of course I knew it was going to be fake, but it was only a 1 cent, literally 1 cent with shipping, so I think is worth it, right??
where did you buy it?
I just realised. Why no gold square ah?
obvious avoid:wrongly coloured carts ,example: leafgreen but it's red
Where can I sell mine?
I'm interested if it's an authentic cartridge 👀
I've sold on Ebay, it's probably the best option unless you know someone irl to sell to.
To me of it's authentic
Mine has everything that is real mentioned in this video except it doesnt have the e for everyone print on the front . Does it matter?
I just got a copy of pokemon emerald and everything about the cartridge itself checks out, but the sticker on the game doesn't have the shimmery sticker or the numbers. Does that mean it could be a fake?
When I boot it up it says the internal battery has run dry which should point it more towards being real, right?
I heard that on fake cartridges it’ll pop up that the battery has run dry, but it won’t say after that clock based events won’t happen because of it, while the real one will say this after
Does yours say this?
It has to say that the intenal battery is dead and that time set events are no longer available.
I have a copy with that sticker. I bought the game later on (i had another copy, but it was lost on vacation).
It blows my mind that I have a fake… I don’t exactly remember how I got it, but I know it was when I was like 8…
Can you still shiny hunt on fake games
Thankfully mine is real! Got a decent deal on it too
Prefect great vid
Thanks bro I just subbed
I was wondering why i couldn't migrate the pokémon i caught from emerald to platinum. Now I know why 😢
Damn that moment when you find out your copies of Emerald, FireRed, and Sapphire are all fakes...
Well at least Ruby and LeafGreen were real.
Bought the Fake Emerald One for only 3 dollars in the Philippines. Seems okay to me because it can play and save the game.
My cartridge is real gang😎👍
Both are fake ones
Looks like my Emerald is real! I'll see you from my yacht, nerds 😎
Bought my emerald copy about 10 years ago, just now realizing it’s fake 😢
Thank you! Mine is fake and stopped working 😢
The real one looks kinda dense.
can you play on a fake cartridge
Yeah but they suck and are prone to just randomly permanently stop working and you lose all your save data because the cartridge is just dead
sobbing, found my old gba games and went through them, apparent all three pokemon, sapphire leafgreen and emerald, are all fake ToT
oh well, as long as i can play them lol
As long as the game works and saves id rather get a copy
I would really like to listen to „Yes“ by LMFAO right now because I got a real copy for 35€… just saying
I found a legit copy but it's so expensive. Like why Goodwill?
If you want to make sure it's real you can also try to transfer pokemon to Pearl, Diamond, Platinum, HG, or SS. If it doesn't give the option it might be a bootleg.
It works especially if you've beaten the Gen 4 game listed above.
So my dumbass got a real cartridge given to me in a box of random junk and the battery was dead. Not knowing how valuable the game was i cut the case up to fit a slightly larger battery just to play it 20 minutes and put it in a drawer for 6 months. I just recently found out i cut up $200 🤦🤦
My games are fake but save
Thanks , my copy is authentic
Well the pawnshop won't know the difference 😅
yeah bbbyyy my emerald with a shiny treecko is goddamn original papabless C:
With the USA version, the fake version looks better 🙂
I'm so lucky I got a real pokemon emerald version for only 45€
Can some one just slap a real sticker on a fake game?
I don’t really care about it being fake or real as long as it lets me play n enjoy the game
But just son of a B, the fake ones
Every now and then, it would automatically delete my save file
That’s the one n only thing that made me stop buying fake games
i just bought a fake one... great. so whats the bad part though ?is it not playable ? will it not save? or will i be able to play normally ? i have not gone to my home town to dig out my gameboy.
when i bought it i checked it on his gb if it opens and we saved
For me, with the fake games, I've been able to play, but the save file has usually become corrupted and then I have to start over. Very frustrating and made me stop playing the fake games.
@@poke_ref Also, In the games Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heart Gold, and Silver, the fake games can't migrate their Pokemon.
I grinded my team on firered (fake) to level 75, then I had just evolved my dragonair, then the data corrupts, I was sad to say the least
I have a real one without the imprint on the label...everything else checks out fine.
This guy had them backwards lol
The hammer at the end 🤣🤣🤣
…. Damn it
:0 oh my
Well shoot... I got scammed on ebay when I was 11. Now I have anxiety if something bads going to happen lol. So far nothing bad has happened yet.
I've had save files get corrupted many times on the fake cartridges. I only use the genuine ones now.
I lost 40 $ for a fake one
I could care less . If it works its good enough for me
The dots are called "vias".
