Your videos aren't just incredibly helpful for students, but also for fellow English teachers such as myself. I find Jekyll and Hyde super challenging to teach, and at times I've struggled to get it to click with my year 11 class, so this is really useful.
my teacher taught me to do 3 large paragraphs each paragraph will have a point where you include references from both the text and the extract. i notice this is different than what most people do (2 paras on extract, 2 on text) is the way my teacher taught it fine?
Both are fine, as long as you reference both it doesn't matter how much of each ou use they are expecting you tk write more about the extract than the text as a whole cause its right infront of you
Hi sir, I want to ask that in the paragraph for the 3 texts as well as poetry, should we add an introduction and a conclusion to the start and end of our writing and could this affect how many marks we get? Thanks.
do it if it helps you, but there's nothing ever in the mark scheme stating that you if you should do it you shall receive marks. If it helps you start/ you believe it will help you gain mental points from the examiner for stating your opinion before hand then do it, but otherwise nah
with a introduction it defo helps me to stay focused and outline my points for the essay and u can also show of some context in it which helps the examiner recognise the points early on and a conclusion is useful in bringing ur points together and creating a memorable ending and leave a good impact to the examiner so i would defo use it for all the texts including poetry
Could you please do a video on Never Let Me Go? There isn't much online on that and unfortunately it is one of the books chosen by my school for the GCSE 2024 Literature exams.
Thanks for this video! but i have one question. On paragraph 3, the paragraph about the extract given you say to talk about pathetic fallacy but what if there is no pathetic fallacy of the fog in the extract given
you dont have to talk about pathetic fallacy but it is used a lot in most of the extracts, there might be religious imagery or some other type of extended language tehcnique that you can talk about
Dear Sir, I am a big fan of your work and have been following your advice for a while now. I am currently in Year 9 and I am really keen to get good grades in English. I am really motivated to improve my English skills, but I don't know where to start. I would be grateful for any advice you could give me. I am particularly interested in improving my ability to recognize language devices and understand the context in which they are used. I would also like to learn more about the history of English literature and the different literary movements that have shaped it. I would be really grateful if you could make a video where you teach us how to improve our starting point. I think this would be a valuable resource for students of all ages. However, I am most interested in knowing where to start. I know that you have said that reading texts from the 19th and 20th centuries is important, but I don't know where to start. What are some of the most important texts that I should read? What are some of the key events that I should be aware of? I would really appreciate it if you could give me some guidance on where to start. Thank you for your time and consideration.
they're all important, if im not mistaken they give the same marks if you want the dread out the way first, i recommend studying your anthology and making key notes now then your texts, then do practice questions and send to ur teacher
